The pork belly everyone raves about is worth the praise, perfectly crunchy crisp exterior and juicy meat. The portion is very generous for both the small plate and entrée. But my favorite dish is the Is-Saan-Laab, I could eat this for every meal and never get bored. The spicy pork with fresh green onions and basil make it a lively combination.

We made our first trip to PokPok, a newish Thai restaurant on K Rd on a rainy Friday night after work. We’d heard good things. Despite being fairly empty when we arrived we were asked if we had a reservation. We didn’t but we got the last table it seems as they were actually booked out for later as a steady stream of people following us sadly found out. The staff were very friendly and attentive and drinks were ordered from the well priced wine list. Eight bucks for a piccolo of Lindauer Brut ain’t bad! Yes I drink Lindauer Brut — it’s won awards. We chose from the quaintly mis-spelled selections on a fairly brief but impressive looking menu. To start was a tasty chicken satay and deep fried tender pork belly. Both were great. I don’t ever recall seeing slow cooked brisket in a curry before so we ordered it and it was superb! In fact it was a go back for. The brisket was meltingly tender and served in a fragrant light green curry. Ryan had sides of rice and roti but being Paleo I happily tucked in to the dish as it was, the curry sauce serving as a welcome soup in my bowl. We complimented the dish with wok fried Asian greens; tasty and perfectly cooked. As we were finishing the place was filling up. Lots of groups and booked in and it’s easy to see why. We’ll be back with our own group… best we book it seems.

So disappointed after wanting to go here for a while! We got the crispy tuna salad which we were later told is a deep fried can of tuna!!! Awful and inedible, like the end of a deep fat fryer. I had the pork larb which was bad too. The wine was fine on an upside!

This is an awesome place that obviously takes care when making their food. They use beautiful fresh ingredients and their dishes have bold Asian flavors. A great place to eat at whether with one person or a group. Highly recommend the the Coconut Softshell Crabs and the Lamb Larb. The prices are cheap for the quality of food. To anyone who considers them selves a fan of Thai food I highly recommend you check PokPok out.

If you like the distinctive clean taste of Thailand this is the place to come too. A reasonable price including alcohol and the serving time we went the music was quieter so could talk. The crispy pork and salmon are delightful.

Pokpok, according to the urban dictionary is a slutty girl. No surprise then that you’ll find her on K road, Aucklands answer to Sydney’s Kings Cross. Fortunately, if you choose to spend an hour with her, you’ll find she actually has a generous kiwi soul with a traditional Thai values. Her spice is moderated and her charges are reasonable. From the crisp and succulent duck spring rolls, zingy coriander-fresh salads and caramelized pork belly with which she may entice you to the climax of perfumed green or musky mussaman curries, she will leave you sated, yet wanting more. A nice place for a casual affair.

Well priced Thai restaurant up on K Rd… Lively flavours… Crispy pork belly and green papaya salad probably my favourite dishes from what we ordered… Sit back and enjoy people watching.
