I regularly eat Thai food but have never been to Thanya so decided to try it using an entertainment book voucher. I’m glad I didn’t pay full price for it because both my husband and I only had a few mouthfuls and couldn’t eat the rest. It looked grey and unappetising and tasted awful. Definitely won’t be returning there. Should have been a warning to me when I saw the restaurant was completely empty.

Just to let you know, my review is based entirely on takeaways. In fact, I’ve never even really seen the restaurant, because every time I’ve gone in my takeaways are ready. I live very close to Jungle Flavour, so getting takeaway from there is a regular occurrence in our household. I am a big, big fan of their stir fry dishes, particularly the one full of basil. The basil is not overpowering, it definitely complements the dish. I also really rate their curries — they’re not super thick, which I quite like in a Thai curry, but they’re full of veggies and most importantly — flavour. Their portion sizes are quite good too. We often split one dish, and if I’m feeling quite naughty I’ll order their mixed entrée too. One thing about that, I am PRETTY sure that they have doubled their mixed entrée sometime this year. When I used to order it, it came with one of each of the usuals(spring roll, money bag, curry puff). Now you get two! I may be completely off-base on that, but every time I open up the little container and it’s got two of each deep-fried goodness, I’m very happy. It means I don’t have to share. The staff are always really nice, really easy to deal with and they’re pretty fast with the takeaways. I know most people don’t see this restaurant because the KFC on Dominion Road obscures it from vision slightly, but it’s well worth a stop off — at least for a cheeky takeaway.

I’ve been to Jungle Thai a couple of times for friends’ birthdays, and every time I leave a little bit disappointed. Maybe its because I watched Jumanji a bit too much when I was a kid, maybe its because the smell of KFC overrides everything. or maybe its because the dishes seem a bit overpriced for what you get compared to other Thai joints. Admittedly, Jungle Thai does have quite a nice set up, and the service is quick and efficient — and it is a nice touch getting a free ferrero rocher– even though they always seem to disappear when I go with a certain friend of mine. I also enjoy getting a warm towel, as I find serviettes never quite pull off the job. As a spice lover, I find their«thai hot» a little underwhelming, but on the other end of the scale, my less enlightened friend found plenty to deal with when she ordered the mild. It’s a good place to go with a big group, and it is BYO which is always a treat, but I think there are better Thai places around.

I booked this place for my birthday last year, then started reading some awful reviews. I was nervous and thought the Jungle may end up being a bad idea, especially when I rocked up to the door, which was decorated with those awful plastic drapes. Yet inside, my nerves were quickly dissipated. The décor really is jungle-like and filled with plenty of wild character. The staff were attentive to all our needs and recommended some dishes that were truly delicious. My friends really enjoyed themselves, and it made me wonder what all those bad reviewers were going on about. Will definitely go again.

This place is Thai styles through and through — and gets everything right from the kitschy décor to the coma-inducing food. There is quite a lot of Thai food around in Auckland these days and not all of it up to scratch but Jungle Flavour is one of the best. We went for New Years Eve dinner and managed to get a last minute table for seven. That’s not to say they were quiet — every table was full — so I think we just got lucky. The menu is the usual stuff but done to perfection. I’m a semi-vegetarian(oh ok fussy eater) so can often be disappointed but the Tofu Satay made me a tofu convert and my Red Curry had so much flavour I had to doggy-bag the tiny bit that was left. The service is fast and friendly and they were relaxed and patient with our three hyped-up for New Years kids. Ah, sure give ‘em another round of cokes — it’s a celebration. A lot of care has been taken with all aspects of this place(love the brilliantly tacky Tropical jungle theme) and the pricing is excellent. There has been a trend lately for neighbourhood restaurants removing the BYO option but happily, not here. There is of course a comprehensive drinks list including wine if you don’t feel like taking your own. I can’t recommend this place enough and while Balmoral already has great Thai eating, Jungle Flavour is my new absolute favourite.

I love this restaurant, perfect for when you need somewhere that caters to large groups! I celebrated a birthday here and everyone seemed to have a great time(alcohol was involved). If you are looking for somewhere to be waited on hand and foot, this is the place. The waitresses wear authentic Thai uniforms and really help to influence the atmosphere of this place. The food is delicious, offering all the usual dishes as well as some unique ones. Their satay chicken appetizer is really something they should brag about, as well as their pad thai which contains all the flavours you want it to! And at the end of your meal, they bring out warm hand towels, love that!
