Definitely the best bubble tea place in the area(which is saying a lot, seeing as all the different bubble tea chains seem to have their shops within ~200 m of each other for some strange reason). The space itself is nice and bright, with a few tables if you want to have you drink there. Currently am working my way through the menu, and while most drinks I’ve had were delicious, the signature range teas with the delicious milky foam(honestly, I’d eat that stuff with a spoon) are definitely standouts. Tapioca pearls are a MUST add-on. Earl grey with 3J is also very nice and allows you to try a few different jelly toppings at once. The service is efficient and friendly, so no complaints about that. I’m only taking a star off because the preparation of the drinks can be somewhat inconsistent. For example, I ALWAYS order my drinks with 0% ice and 30% sugar but the sweetness level seems to vary quite dramatically from day to day, even though technically it should always be the same.

This was my first Gong Cha experience. Apparently it’s a worldwide chain, but not in my hometown Perth. The list of teas, milks and toppings on offer were pretty standard. I was really shocked when I had my first sip of tea, as I asked for no sugar but it was still extremely sweet and had me buzzing all afternoon. Surely they had put sugar in? Staff were very friendly and helpful while dealing with our large order.

So, we were thirsty and that calls for bubble tea. I love the stuff, you always have a meter long menu of flavours and combinations to choose from. Those who are lactose intolerant, never fear! There are milk free versions. I prefer the milk free versions and go with green teas or black teas. This store is just like any other bubble tea store. Not that flash, but lots of tables and chairs to gather a group of friends around. It took me a while to choose as I noticed that they did not have lychee on the menu. Which is my all time fave bubble tea flavour. So, I went with peach oolong with pearls with 0% sugar. If you are unfamiliar with what pearls are, they are little squish balls of tapioca that taste sweet and are a little chewy. I love them and could eat a bowl of them. The staff were really friendly and made our drinks fast. The drink itself though was really sweet. I was really surprised especially since I ordered 0% sugar. I hate to think what it would taste like with sugar. Hmmm… maybe they accidentally added some in or there is sugar in the flavour syrup? Nonetheless, after a few sips I got used to the sugar content and drank the contents of my plastic cup. I was re-charged and pumped for the evening.

No almond milk tea :( No English either. I grew up around people with Chinese accents and I could not understand the people working here. And they did not understand the word ‘almond’ or ‘boba’. I would have been better off ordering in my-not-so-great Chinese than trying to speak English to them. Bubble tea, on the other hand is pretty good. Up to par with the franchise reputation. The nice thing about Gong Cha is that they have a systematic way of ordering your drinks. Choose your drink, size, toppings, sugar level, and ice levels(for cold drinks).
