After passing by this place quite a few times and peeking in through the windows when they were closed, I finally made it in to experience«Morningside’s best little bar.» First impression was that the space is lovely. There are vintage airline items and old luggage tastefully adorning the space, which has been lovingly tended to, as well. The ceilings were beautiful!(yes, I looked at the ceilings) There is also a nice outdoor space at the back, but it was just a bit too cold for me to sit out there this go round even though they had heaters going. The staff was welcoming and helpful. They also brought us popcorn to enjoy at our table. Great beer and wine selection, plus a full bar. There were several small groups of people enjoying the space and even though it isn’t enormous, it felt like we all had our own area and privacy. I was jealous of the couple playing cards at the window table, but have already decided to take cards on the next visit. Overall, a very nice experience and I recommend Flight 605 to anyone looking for a relaxed vibe and wide selection of craft beers.

Flight 605 is a lovely wine bar that has a ‘your local’ feel to it and the owners really seem to be fostering that sentiment. They have a truly respectable selection of kiwi wines and craft beers that are a bit off the beaten track(even in New Zealand). My favorite tipple on offer though was their selection of ‘Matakana Moonshine’ which is a semi-local distillery producing some pretty respectable whiskey and moonshine with a kiwi twist. I had the Southern Style of whiskey which was reblended with NZ honey and flavoured with Manuka wood, truly a delight! The last time I went their they didn’t offer a lot of food but you were able to order from next door(601 Sake Bar) and have the food served at Flight 605. Go on… check it out!
