Went to have brunch today and had an absolutely terrible experience. Purchased a voucher off the site to give it a shot — very disappointed. The staff struggled to remember a simple order for four people and it wasn’t as if the café was at full capacity. We ordered lamb shanks only to be told they had ‘run out’ — yeah right?!(think voucher value) Ok — changed our order to fish n chips — to then be told that they didn’t have the right portion to serve us a full meal — great! — at least they’re honest. Settled for some choritzo instead. Other dishes we ordered were a Cajun Chicken, a Halloumi Cheese Salad and Turkish Breakfast. Now I’m not from turkey but I know my middle eastern cuisine a little bit — they served me the smallest sized poached eggs, some mango chutney, strawberry jam, sliced cucumber & tomatoes and the only ‘Turkish’ elements were olives(with seeds) and feta cheese cubes! Hilarious! The dish also had a chipped porcelain bowl with the chipped porcelain served to me and to top it off the last 2 slices of a loaf. I sent it back to then receive a fresh chutney bowl and two stale slices of white bread which I could buy at a local supermarket — and they sell this for $ 17.50 a plate. The coffee was ‘palatable’ to say the least — sadly made and served. It’s unfortunate that I didn’t take any pictures — so regret that! Bottom line — avoid going here and don’t be fooled by the ‘A’ grade food hygiene certificate — this café is not worth your time and surely not your money. The staff too were hardly welcoming and disinterested — told us up front they close at 3.30 pm and that was when we just sat at our table @ 2 pm.

This café is a popular choice by my husband and his workmates who are situated nearby. It has a contemporary look but an old fashioned, laid back atmosphere, and prices! The coffee is also one of the best you can get around this shopping district, with just a few close contenders nearby. It is great to see more like this in Henderson, it lifts the place up and feels more inviting. The Westfield Mall is super close by, but I prefer to grab my coffee break from here in between all that consumer purchasing! I haven’t tried their meals(yet) but I am aware they do breakfast, lunch and dinner. Plus you can eat indoors or out and apparently these guys also own/run Mozaic kebab. They are on Facebook too, worth checking them out if you haven’t done so already.

Huge chunks of Chocolate Brownie and generous slices of Lemon Tart for $ 4. You would be hard pressed to find prices matched to portions like this in Auckland City, bordering on the impossible. In all honesty, I was surprised to find such a open spaced, clean and good looking café in Henderson(and outside of it’s Westfield mall). While the coffee is average, the prices are a refreshing change to what you come to expect in the CBD. Wide windows are splayed open to the sun, the TV chatters the morning news over the ample amount of seating. Mydonose could easily fit in as a café in the city or in Newmarket. All I can deduce from the name though, is that it is a bastardization of the Turkish word for«parsley».
