If you are ready to splurge, this is the place. The service is excellent, the food is great, and we love the open air atmosphere. There is live music several nights a week. The wine menu is adequate and so is the tequila bar. I love the«Calamari a Ahillo», but really everything we have tried has been delicious and well presented. Ask for Benny when you go and get ready to have a wonderful time.

So overpriced and food was bad! Ordered the thai calamari salad. Literally boiled pieces of frozen squid with overly dressed and leaves. It was about 9USD. C got the grouper which was about 15USD. It was so small and flavors were nothing memorable. All in all, I think there are better options even in this very touristy part of town. We wanted to go to lupitas but they were closed.

Our reservation was for 8 pm we were not taken until 8:30 Cocktals were awful. Our salads took over 45 minutes to get to our table. It was almost 10 pm and our entrees still had not arrived. We left our for friends who had a lot more patience and stomach then we did and had dinner at La Lupita down the road — a great place. Service at La Ostera was beyond poor their team does not have it together. We will never return. Why they go out of business hopefully their replacement will be better than this Disaster.

Drinks were amazing. Live music was awesome. Service was very poor. Food took forever and ordered another drink and it never came.

After reading a few reviews I decided to try this place and we dined here on the day before our departure. It was hard to find but we found it. Opens at 6pm and it’s right behind the left side of the church in an alley. It has huge wooden doors and its décor us real relaxing with hanging lanterns and cool lighting. My husband and I were sad to have not tried this place sooner. We had the BEST Berry Mojito !! For dinner my husband and I shared the rib eye, huge 10 oz juicy steak, but were saddened that they didn’t have A1 sauce. Our servers were Claudio and Benny. Claudio seated us and he will talk your ear out but was friendly and he suggested the Berry Mojito. But Benny went above and beyond. He was friendly, professional, humble and informative. He resembled Julion Alvarez a little lol. After we ordered the rib eye he offered to make us a mushroom steak sauce in replacement of the A1 sauce they didn’t have. I wish this would’ve been the first place we ate at. With the steak and 3 drinks we paid $ 38USD. If ever again in Cabo which I doubt, I would come back to La Osteria.

Great times. Band was a lot of fun. Went to watch them as we thought they started at 7 but they actually started at 11. Drank too much. Mescal marg was crazy good. Steak was very nice. Dessert and coffees were also good. Staggered out at 1 but had a great time.

Visited La Osteria when on vacation in June 2015. We heard from restaurant owners from Portland, Oregon where we live that this was a must go-to. Man were they right! The food was amazing and you can watch them cook everything right in front of you. The restaurant has no roof so it was a beautiful, warm night with the sky right above us. The wait staff and bartenders were very friendly and kept the strong margaritas coming. Great, live music on the weekends. We are heading back to San Jose in September and will return!

La-huuuuuv La Osteria in San José del Cabo. My gal pal and I were dining on the other side of the wall at La Dolce’s patio when I swore I heard live music — a range of everything from Freddy Fender to No Doubt. After dinner, we followed the sounds reverberating throughout the plaza. We walked around a block to turn a corner, and then another corner … and into a dimly lit street to find this super sexy dive located in an alley. No roof. No door. Just three walls, some foliage and a lot of hanging lanterns. Service was 5-stars — and not just for the typically slow pace set in Cabo. Our server found us a table, explained drink specials with enthusiasm and checked on us regularly. I even shared my Cuban with him(cigar, that is). The band that night — a trio composed of a sultry female singer from Australia, guitar/harmonica player from Canada and a bass player from Venezuela — entertained diners with a gamut of tunes and even took in a few song requests in both English and Spanish. I ended up requesting a few of my favorites from Amy Winehouse and Shakira. They offer free wi-fi and also have the cleanest restrooms I’ve ever encountered in Cabo — in all of Mexico for that matter. We didn’t get a chance to dine, but the reviews sound promising and I’ll return on my next visit. San José del Cabo is a rather quiet town — especially during their off season — and La Osteria offered the perfect amount of panache in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.

Hands down my favourite pick. I am mourning leaving this establishment behind as I return home. Get the sampler tapas plate to try all of the appetizers offered(except the sweetbreads). It consists of flatbreads topped with portobello mushrooms in gorgonzola cream, grilled octopus, a custom Argentinian sausage on cheese, peppers stuffed with seafood and goat cheese etc. I did not try any of the sandwiches but did in my many visits try the rest of the menu. You really will not go wrong with anything but standouts are the: Asado, Rib Eye(table of international travellers agreed one of top 2 ever tasted), Tunisian Couscous, Octopus, and YellowTail with Cilantro. The bartender here is amazing. Try a berry mojito. They also make a Margarita with«special» liquors that is revelatory ;) It is open air with sweet lanterns and exposed brick. On Thursday nights there is live music. I brought repeated groups here and we all agree it is one of our favourite dining experiences to be had. Authentic mexican with a hint of Argentinia(chumchurri sauce is a must also) and incredibly gracious service.

One of my favorite dining experiences on my last trip. We were wandering around searching for live music and stumbled into this place. SCORE!!! Lovely ambiance. All open architecture and expansive bar. First night we just had drinks but looking at people’s food we knew we had to come back. We did the next day. First of all service is your typical Mexican hospitality. Friendly helpful and speaks perfect English. Margaritas are made fresh and the prices really aren’t too crazy considering the quality of the restaurant. I ordered the yellowtail with cilantro sauce. It was the hit of my table. Everyone was envious of my dinner. Fresh fish and cilantro butter sauce I mean how can you go wrong? My table mates ordered the ribeye which was just as amazing as my fish but holy cow is it a large portion. We ate the leftovers for days. Really enjoyed the music. Contemporary rock with a few local songs thrown in. And the bill came to about $ 170.00 and there were 5 of us at the table eating and drinking to our hearts content. I highly recommend this place. I’ve been to San Jose a million times and this place is a real gem. They are at the far end of town behind the building that ends the square. Well past Shooter and such. It’s the next street over and to your left. Do yourself a favor and check them out for yourselves. You will not be disappointed. I guarantee it.

You know when you’re in Mexico and thinking«I could really use a great Mexican dining experience»(I’m sure it happens all the time) this is the place. Top 3 meals of my life. Everything is cooked on a single grill making the flavors explode in your mouth. The restaurant itself is open air and well decorated with lanterns hanging above you from trees. I was there with a group of 14. We had most of the menu. I could go into details but that’s boring. The fish will knock your socks off. Grilled calamari and grilled sweet breads? YUP. Those were some of the highlights out of all top notch items. Remember, everything is cooked on a single grill so a group of 14 might not be the best to go with. However, if you find yourself here, when your meal is done you will be thinking about making a reservation for the next night.

Open air tapas bar with live music. Beautiful setting. Quintessential Mexican venue. Friendly and helpful staff.
