Love the food! It’s a bit on the pricey side, but no regrets about it. The place can be quite smokey so you would wanna bring an extra change of clothes if you’re heading somewhere after your meal. Do make reservations as this place is really popular and crowded even on weekdays.

Definitely one of the best Japanese BBQ I had in Malaysia. The restaurant has limited space, so do make sure you make a reservation at least a day before. I love the pork with rice cake and pork with fish roe. It’s not the most affordable place, but it’s totally worth the splurge!

Sumi-Ka, the best Japanese BBQ restaurant in town! The first I knew about this restaurant is through a friend of mine and after the first visit, I got addicted to this restaurant. Why? When I first walked into the restaurant, I thought I was in Japan as the chef is a Japanese and the waiters greeted us in Japanese as well! It was my first time came to this restaurant and had zero clue what I should order, so I just left it all to my friend to decide. He ordered quite a lot of stuffs and surprisingly all tasted so good! Indeed, my favorite are grilled squid, sweet potatoes with butter and grilled pork belly(it’s not in the menu and you gotta ordered separately). A good plum wine and sumika yakitori — perfect match. They sell sakae and plum wine as well. If you can’t finish, they can keep it on your behalf for your next visit. However, do take note that booking in advance especially during weekend is a MUST. Please bring CASH as they do not accept cards.

Everytime we talk about the japanese cuisine, I’m tired listening about Sushi, Udon, Bento and bla bla bla. This time, it’s all about the exotic japanese cuisine. It’s not that exotic, it’s just non typical. I don’t know about other places but this place serves the best Yakitori in the area and possibly one of the best in this nation. Not just that, the beef ribs, chicken wings, beef tongue here were absolutely delicious and highly recommended. Don’t forget to try the pudding. It’s limited.

Though I frequently hang out in SS15 ever since my college time, I’ve never heard of this place until recent year. How I know about this place is again, recommended by my elder sis(she just know where all the good food is!). During her birthday, she wanted to have something yummy, so we come to this restaurant. This restaurant is actually a Japanese restaurant. But unlike the usual Japanese food, the food they serve are mostly sticks of foods that are charcoal grilled to perfection. I was clueless unsure of what to order(my first time there). So my sister order them for us. She ordered so many different dishes which I have no idea of. Then she asked me to try them. After trying one of the dishes she order, she told me I’m actually eating chicken butt! My reaction was eeewwww!!! But to my surprise, the chicken butt actually taste good. There’s all kind of weird stuff there but they all taste yummy. One of the dishes I like most was the simplest baked sweet Japanese potato and chicken skin. I find the experience of dining here much different from the usual ‘Japanese restaurant’. Something new to me and it’s new in a good way. Well now I know Japanese food is not all about sushi and bentos. They have bbq food as well. Well, I must say, it was a whole new different experience. The thing about this restaurant is, it is a little hard to find as it is quite hidden and this area is quite dark at night. Another thing is, they only receive cash. So, it is advisable to pay your ATM a visit beforehand(because they are quite pricy too!). Nevertheless it’s a place worth visiting for some delicious charcoal grilled food.

I came to know about Sumi-Ka from some bloggers, and they have given very good reviews on the restaurant. Even though it’s located at the busy area in SS15 Subang Jaya, but it took us some time to find the restaurant. It’s not facing the main road, and the shop is located on the 1st floor with black colour signboard. The moment we went into the restaurant, I felt as if we were in Japan. Apart from the waiters and waitresses, the patrons and chef were all Japanese. We took that as a good sign of having some authentic Japanese yakitori! Although the pricing were quite high, but we couldn’t help it and ordered quite a few dishes. It was my first time having blood vessel and I loved it a lot. The nice chewy texture made me wanted for more after every each bite. The Beef Tongue(Gyutan) was superb too — pleasant chewy texture and well-seasoned. If you are less adventurous, they served some seriously nice Grilled Chicken Breast too. The meat was tender, which was out of my expectation. Apart from their usual menu, they’ll put up their«specials» on the wall, but it’s all written in Japanese. Feel free to always check with the servers on the special menu, and they have quite a selection of sake too. Due to the limited space of the shop, it’s advisable to make reservation earlier; and you can request to sit by the grill table if you want to see some action going on while enjoying your food.

Looking for a nice yakitori dinner? Look no further! Sumi-Ka’s yakitori is the best, possibly in the whole of Malaysia! I’ve heard, from one of the waitresses, that the chef is trying to teach people how to grill all the stuff like he does(with charcoal) but no one is willing to learn since standing near that area can get a bit too hot for comfort. So, if you want to taste this ever so popular yakitori, you better not waste any more time in coming. This restaurant has adopted a rather Japanese atmosphere with it’s packed and crowded environment along with the savoury smell of the meat being grilled. Although you may not find a lot of Malaysians, I’ve seen quite a number of Japanese dine there. The service was pretty good considering the amount of people there but if you don’t want to wait long, you should come at 6pm, which is when they open. Also, make sure you remember to book a reservation as the place would be crowded. If you don’t book a reservation, you would be considered fortunate if you even get a table.
Unfortunately, you are unable to book a reservation for too many people(I don’t really know how many people but lets just say you can’t book the whole restaurant for your child’s birthday party) as Sumi-Ka wants to give other people a chance to enjoy eating at their restaurant too. When I first came with my family, my favourite dish was the chicken gizzard but now it has changed. If you ask me what, exactly, it has changed to, I cannot say. Each one of them is as tasty as the others but I really like the chicken neck, skin and butt so if you’re adventurous enough, I recommend you to go try it. Another thing I liked was the sweet potato with a bit of butter. For desert, try the pudding. It’s really yummy. Although the quality of the food is excellent, it may be a bit pricey for some. But it’s still worth it. Sumi-Ka is a restaurant you do not want to miss.
