I ordered Nasi Ulam Ayam, the chicken is alright, not too dry, not extremely delicious. The food was average and decent, but I really enjoyed the Red Velvet cake. The texture was really good, not too sweet, not tasteless. Well done, love it!

Serai serves a fusion of asian dishes, all prepared with beautiful presentation and sinful taste. If you’re a fan of exotic local Malaysian dishes and scrumptious dessert, than this is definitely the restaurant for you. The prices are pricier than what you’d find at regular roadside stalls, but as delicious in my opinion. I mean it isn’t as great as a home cooked Malaysian dishes, but it does the trick. Being Kelantanese and all, i had ordered the Nasi Kerabu with Ayam Percik. The plate looked amazing; hot steamy blue rice, fresh vegetables and topped of with barbecued chicken. I couldn’t wait to dig in. And when i did, it brought me back to Kelantan. Nothing compared to my grandmas cooking, but still good enough to ignite my palette. I had also ordered Milky Bandung and it was simply delightful. Milky Bandung has always been a favourite of mine, i was thrilled when it wasn’t too sweet. Just how it’s suppose to be. I can’t come to Serai without finishing my meal of with their dessert. I’m a huge fan of their Pavlova. Crusty in the bottom and soft on the top. With fresh, big strawberries on the top, oh i’m dying just thinking about it. You won’t regret it, i guarantee it! They’ve got other amazing desserts as well. Before you sit, i’d suggest you have a look at their dessert bar. I’d strongly recommend this restaurant, if you wish to have delicious local Malaysian food. It’s refreshing to eat great Malaysian food in a modern, classy setting. I really enjoy the design of the restaurant. It always feel fresh and clean to me. You really get to appreciate what you’ve got on your table before eating.

What I really enjoy about Serai Restaurant is the whole feel of it. Posh interior with lots of natural lighting, Serai Restaurant gives off a very hotel like feel to it. I was there with my mom and aunt one Thursday for lunch, and were instantly attracted to it. Serai Restaurant serves up mostly Northern Cuisine like Nasi Kerabu, Nasi Ulam and many more. They do have a limited selection of Western as well as Middle Eastern, but I decided on their signature dish, the Serai Platter(RM25). My dish was averagely sized and completely decked out in condiments like acar squid and a yummy piece of seasoned chicken! However, my oxtail was less than exciting and I noticed that my rice was a little on the dry side as well. Overall Serai Restaurant has a brilliant and cozy atmosphere, but food really failed to impressed. But hey, it might have just been my dish. I’ll be more than happy to give them another shot to test that theory!

I have no idea why is this place so happening to a point that there’s a long line during peak hours. I finally get to try their food recently when my friends decided to visit this place. I ordered their thai fried rice hoping that it will ruffle my feathers but nah, not even one bit. It’s basically nasi kampung only. The Tom yam is also disappointing because it felt like soup with chili flakes in it. My friend loves dessert and she ordered tiramisu to wrap up her dinner. The portion of the cake is big but the sponge portion of the cake is hard and disappointing. Overall with the RM15 and above pricing for everything. It’s not a place I would come back.

Serai at Jaya Shopping Centre has been a favourite local haunt for me and my family since it opened. We were first attracted by its beautiful setting of the outdoor seating area facing the main road, which made it easy to be spotted. We were pretty much hooked after our first time eating there. We love the ambiance and comfortable setting of the restaurant, and I like that there’s a nice hint of European feel to it. The menu contains an impressive variety of fusion food with Malay, Chinese, Thai, Continental, Middle Eastern, and Italian influences. So, these are some of the good stuff we love invading the space in our tummies with: Steamed Fish with Lime Sauce and Chilli(check for current Market Price), Mango Chicken(RM22.00++), Sang Har Yin Yong(RM19.00++), Crispy Skinned Salmon(RM35.00++) — served with some awesome fried potato cakes, Kampung Style Fried Rice(RM15.00++), Pumpkin Salad(RM16.90++), Spaghetti Prawn Aglio Olio(RM25.00++), and Soup of the Day(my current favourite indulgent) — Broccoli Soup(RM12.00++) On the other hand, there are two things there that made me cringe. Firstly, the Smoked Salmon and Asparagus Salad which really failed to impress me. It didn’t look well prepared and tasted really bland. I had one look at it and thought I could easily make this salad look way more appetizing and eating it was a drag. Another thing that totally crushed my foodie spirit was the Oreo Cheesecake that I had recently. I’ve got a serious sweet tooth and have had my share of amazing Oreo Cheesecakes from other establishments, but this one was, frankly and sadly, the worst I’ve had. It was overwhelmingly sweet and even the Oreo bits couldn’t make up for it. Yeah, it was that bad for me. But, they have a good variety of cakes and macaroons that I’d like to try next time. Despite these 2 unfortunate items, I still go back for the other good stuff.(Just wish they’d make some tweaks to those 2 items above.) Not to mention how pleasant and courteous the servers are too! Just makes our whole dining experience a real pleasure. Sometimes, I even find myself going there in the afternoons alone or with the occasional company of a friend or two, enjoying the abundance of sunshine streaming into the restaurant during the day. All in all, I’d recommend this place to my friends and family to enjoy a good meal there. There’s something for everyone!

Serai was first opened in 1990, serving authentic Northern cuisine to their patrons. Ever since then, they have opened up couple of branches; but it’s only lately that they have incorporated a «East meet West» concept into the menu at the Jaya Shopping Centre outlet. The restaurant is located at the Ground Floor of the mall, next to the main entrance. You can spot the restaurant easily as you pass by/drive by. The interior is clean and bright, and it’s spacious. Since they started off serving Northern cuisine, it only made sense for me to order their Nasi Kerabu(RM22). Many might say RM22 for a plate of Nasi Kerabu is too expensive, but they hit lal the right notes with every item on the plate. The blue rice was fluffy and fragrance, ayam percik was well-seasoned and perfectly cooked with salted egg, ulam, solok lada and keropok ikan at the side. Pesonally, I don’t fancy raw vegetables or ulam; so I like it a lot when Serai served their ulam at the side instead of sprinkled on top of the rice. In my earlier visits to Serai, I ordered the Beef Noodle Soup. I wasn’t expecting much and thinking it was going to be another mediocre beef noodle soup. How wrong was I. The broth was light but packed with flavours and the beef slices were tender. For this, I wouldn’t mind paying RM20 it. No matter you love desserts or not, you HAVE to try the Swiss Passion — diced fruits wrapped in meringue that was so oh-my-god light and fluffy! I assure you it’s not going to be too sweet, and very high chances are that you might fall in love with this sweet and sour combination. Overall, the prices in Serai is a little bit high; but then the portion was pretty big and the dishes were delicious too.
