One of the older and more popular Banana Leaf Rice Indian restaurants in Petaling Jaya, Acha’s was often frequented by many journalists from The Star in the old days. Back then the place was run by a very colourful and eccentric owner but today it’s under new management and to be honest the food is all the better for it. The food is pretty standard fare but there are a few standouts here — the standard curry sauces which they offer to have on your rice is excellent crab curry or salt fish curry along with the usual chicken and dhal curries. The condiments too are a standout with anchovy sambal. Not too spicy.

Taste wise, the vegetables and curry are really good. In terms of portion, they are pretty generous because they allows you to put the vegetables and curry by yourself. If you go there, remember to taste their crab curry. Fish curry is slightly spicy. I ordered chicken varuval and the chicken is so small compare to other Indian restaurant, so minus mark for that.

I am a huge fan of Banana Leaf Rice and whenever I heard there’s a place that provides the best of Banana Leaf Rice, I’m gonna be there as fast as The Flash. This is the latest one. Located just nearby the Bukit Gasing so it’s not that hard to find. The procedure is kinda simple for those who never experience Banana Leaf Rice. Just sit there waiting for the banana leaf to be put in front of you, then a person will come to put rices and follows by other stuffs. The menu on the leaf is basically just the same but here there are a sligtly differences. Acha provides sambal ikan bilis, salted fish curry and crab curry. It is cheap considering you just pay RM6 for the basic meals and the vegetables could be refill. For the newbies, this is the best place for you to get your first Banana Leaf Rice experience.
