For those who’re familiar with Wei-Ling gallery in Brickfields, this new space at The Garden is certainly as charming. Local artist Ivan Lam’s recent exhibition was the first to show in this new space. Wei-Ling gallery was perhaps the first gallery to opened in a shopping mall. After all, we do everything in the mall these days, so why not appreciate the art as well. The space currently play host to two exhibitions. The only downer is the opening times seem to be confusing. We dropped by once on a Saturday evening and it wasn’t opened.

After taking up a space inside the The Gardens mall, Wei Ling Contemporary has decided to expand and take on a bigger space on the rooftop of The Gardens next to Gravity club. The inconspicuous location may be a little difficult to find but there were signboards to lead you to the gallery. The new space is indeed larger and can host huge artworks on the walls. I recently visited the Ivan Lam 20 exhibition which was fascinating as his artworks were displayed in chronological order and you could see how he has evolved in his style. No appointment is required prior to your visit here. I would suggest coming here during a hot day to escape the heat and immerse yourself in contemporary art even if its just for a few hours.

After the move from inside the mall to the rooftop, Wei-Ling Contemporary is an art gallery that is located in The Gardens Mall, and is a place worthy to visit for all artsy fartsy humans out there. As there is a gallery going on till the 1st of March, the gallery has a plethora of art that brings what is drawn in the canvas into life. I really appreciate the openness of the art gallery, and as I have seen my fair share of art galleries, this seemed to be the more organized one, and one that has little constraint in comparison to the government counterparts, where they only put up slip-slop paintings and expect you to enjoy it. Of course, there are still drawbacks to this art gallery. It is now located to the rooftop as opposed to being inside the mall, and it is extremely hard for a person to navigate him or herself to the rooftop where their gallery is located. Even with the arrows and the posters lying around to tell you so, it seemed like doing a quest in Skyrim; hard, and seemingly never ending for the human to find the final destination. However, if you are really into art and to treat your eyes to a visual experience, then this is the place for you to go.
