I don’t usually get my nails done but when I do, I usually pick the most farthest, secluded nail salon I could find. JJ Nail Studio is that shop. I don’t know how their walk-in customer traffic is but this studio is located at the farthest end of Mid Valley, squeezed between Harvey Norman and Clarisound. Even as a gay guy, I don’t want my beauty routine displayed for the entire world to see, some form of mystery and demureness still has to be considered, we are ladies after all. I want people to think that my nails are naturally glossy, my cuticles trim themselves as I sleep and that my toenails naturally grow into a square tip. But seriously, I don’t do my nails all that often, I don’t like sitting and waiting and literally watching paint dry. I need to be able to at least have a book in hand and more than that, I’m really quite ticklish when it comes to my feet. If you tickle my feet, I will not be held responsible for the injuries you might sustain. This nail parlor does a pretty good job when I do actually go in for a treatment. Their therapists are all professionally trained and super gentle and detailed when it came to my hoofs. The last time I was there, they were working on my hands and feet simultaneously, I struck up a conversation with them and found a whole lot about their families and boyfriends back home(they’re mostly Thais.) I find that people get extremely personal and open when they have sharp objects in their hands. The next time I go on a date, I’m bringing my butter knife. A machete if I really like the guy.

There are many nail salons in Midvalley but after spending some time surveying my options, I’ve decided to get my nails done here at JJ Nail Studio. This is because: 1. Services provided are cheaper than the surrounding competitors(Manicure is priced at RM33 and pedicure at RM43) 2. Manicurists are all local Chinese. Employees from the other more«renowned» salons are mostly Burmese/Thais. Not being racist, but it’s just a matter of preference. Previously, I have paid RM135 for a mani-pedi package in a very popular nail salon(name shall not be revealed) and there were three Burmese girls doing my nails all at the same time, while they were having the most intense and exciting conversation… across me. Expensive service does not necessarily indicate excellence. Overall, the service is okay and the employees are friendly. Appointments are needed as they are usually packed.
