If you live along the Keihan railway line and go to Tokyo by Shinkansen bullet train, you had better take off Keihan train at this station. Tofukuji station of Keihan railway is directly connected to Tofukuji(same name) of JR line. Only local trains or semi-express trains stop at Tofukuji station of Keihan railway. If you live near Hikarata city or Kuzuha station, you have to change trains(from super express train to local or semi-express train) at Tanbabashi station. It is a little troublesome comparing with getting on a train of Kintetsu line on which both Tanbabashi stations are directly connected each other. Super express trains or express trains of Keihan railway stop at Tanbabashi station. It takes you longer to get on Keihan and JR lines than to get on Keihan and Kintetsu lines. However as for fare, changing trains at Tofukuji costs lower than at Tanbabashi. This is because Tofukuji station is located in Kyoto city. So passenger fare from JR Tofukuji Station to JR Kyoto Station is included in the fare of Shinkansen line. However JR Nara line from Nara to Kyoto and the platform are almost always crowded. In addition the platform is narrow and the number of the bench is few. So I sometime get tired of that. Another beneficial tip: You had better get on the middle part of the carriages at JR Tofukuji Station, which brings you to the nearest exit to the entrance of Shinkansen line.
