Stazione di Posta is located on the Southside of Rome. It’s a bit of a trip from the city center and pretty hard to find. It’s a very odd location for a newly minted Michelin star restaurant. It’s located in a grassy area with a bunch of horse stable that looks like a place where one of the lead characters of a horror flick is about to get murdered. Stazione di Posta’s service was awesome. The hostess to the waiters were all very accommodating and did a wonderful job explaining the dishes in English. There was no pretentiousness and a good amount of Americans in the restaurant. The restaurant is split into two sections. There’s a bar/lounge area and a main dining room. The tones of the restaurant was very welcoming and the lighting definitely helped highlight each dish. It was perfect lighting for any Unilocaler or IGer to take a ridiculous amount of food pictures or selfies. Now, the food. We went with the tasting menu and here are my favorite dishes: 1) Amuse Bouche — This was the first thing that came out. There were a number of items to get your appetite started. The highlight was a traditional Asian pork bun. Yes, that’s right. I was taken back cause I didn’t expect to see an Asian dish on an Italian menu. It really shows how small the world has gotten and I absolutely love it. The pork bun wasn’t the greatest but it was good enough. It was very simple in that there was no sauce in it. The pork was very tender and the pork tore apart fairly easy. How easy? It’s as easy as finding Kim Kardashian’s home video on Google. 2) Rigatone — It’s a surf and turf dish. The rigatone was cooked al dente and the texture was definitely chewy. It seems like that’s how the Italians like their pasta cause al dente was consistent with every restaurant I ate at in Roma. The assorted seafood. and chorizo provided a very robust taste. It provided a different texture to the dish overall. It’s kind of like hearing Drake and Adele on a track. 3) Piglet — The piglet was served with potatoes, apple and mustard garnish. The potatoes and apples were purée aka mashed. The sweetness of each was fairly well balanced with the large slab of pork. The tender and succulent pig made me understand Anthony Bourdain and David Chang’s love for pork. Well, not really. I always had a thing for pork. The mustard provided a tangy flavor to the dish. Overall, Stazione di Posta was a good experience. The cocktails were all wonderful and the food was pretty good. There wasn’t one dish that made me saw wow. In addition, it wasn’t one of the best dinning experience I’ve had but I didn’t regret dining here. I thought it was worth a trip to the Southside of Roma. Outstanding experience. Very polite and attentive staff. Creative and delicious dishes in a delightfully modern environment. Attention to detail and accommodating of English speakers and vegetarians. Enjoyed the suggested wine/cocktail pairings with the food. A little hard to find the place, but the locals will point you in the right direction. Would definitely recommend.
