Dinner at Checcino Dal in Trastravere.
— Pasta e ceci– traditional pasta and chickpea soup with rosemary
— Bucatini alla Gricia– Long hollow spaghetti served in a white sauce made with ewe’s milk cheese and pig’s cheek
— Coda alla vaccinara — Ox-​tail stewed in a tomato sauce with celery, pine nuts, and raisins
— Petto di vitello alla fornara — Oven roasted veal breast
— Carciofo alla Romana — artichoke in olive oil and white wine
— Panna cotta — cream custard with berry sauce
This was an excellent and delicious meal. The pig cheeks in the bucatini were more like bacon, so the dish was similar to the typical roman briny, rustic flavors. The ox tail had an excellent sauce, claimed to be cooked for 7 hours — it had pine nuts and spices, the ox it self was not cooked as tender as Pirelli but the sauce was flavorful. The oven roasted veal was good.
The side of artichoke was interesting and tasty and ending the meal with the panna cotta was just perfect!
Service was good and meal totaled about 85 Euros.

Decided to hit up this well received Quinto Quarto (offal) /​Roman style restaurant in the Testaccio neighborhood (Southwest) in Rome for comparison to the laid back Da Bucatino.
Hands down, Da Bucatino is a better experience. Checchino is a little more polished but not enough to make a difference and we are looking for food marks here anyway.
I did have a «when in rome» moment, ordering the Pajata Arrosto (small intestine of lamb grilled with salt and pepper). It wasn’t all bad, reminding me of crispy liver.
In sum, decent wine list but over-​hyped. Go to Da Bucatino.

Este es uno de esos restaurantes donde además de comer estupendamente bien y a un precio muy economico, uno pasa un rato muy agradable y animado. Se respira un ambiente genial, motivado por las numerosas familias que acuden con los niños a comer, o los grupos de amigos que se reunen para celebrar algo, o por la cantidad de turistan que visitan este popular restaurante romano. Comida exquisita y variada, buen precio, local amplio y servicio rapido. Un diez!!!

Situé dans le quartier des anciens abattoirs de Rome, ce restaurant mytique est le lieu culte des amateurs de tripes à la romaine. Il faut y être allé au mois une fois pour se plonger dans la culture romaine!
