We chanced it without reservations and ended up with a prime table for 2. The line to get in formed shortly after. The mushroom pasta was amazing. My husband had the wood oven roasted pork and considers it one of the top meals of his life. We had a delicious bruschetta starter and wine all for less than 40 €. Contrast that with the 40 we spent on drinks near the Vatican that same day.

I believe this was my first dinner in Rome. It was really, really good. We got two pizzas, one a Margherita and the other a white pizza with prosciutto. Apparently their lasagne is amazing and I am dying to go back for it. Friendly staff.

The space is warm and inviting, and filled with locals during lunchtime. I was the only non Italian speaker every time I went at lunch. Dinner crowds were much more international with virtually every language spoken in the dining room. The wait staff are all warm, friendly, and professional. I can’t decide what my favorite dish was, it’s a tie between the wood oven roasted veal, with the tastiest crunchy skin served alongside garlic roasted potatoes for 13 Euros or $ 15US, or the moist wood oven roasted suckling pig redolent with rosemary and garlic, 13 Euros or $ 15US, or the most tender succulent tripe I’ve ever eaten for 12 Euros or $ 13US, or the meltingly luscious eggplant parmesan with a crackly crust, 10 Euros or $ 12US. The easier decision is the winner of my favorite in side dishes because after I tasted the chicory with garlic and red pepper, dressed in olive oil and lemon, I ordered it every time with every meal, 5 Euros or $ 6US. The price for a very good quarter liter of wine was only 2 Euros or $ 2.50US, which was also the cost of a liter of water, all the main courses ranged from 10 – 13 Euros or $ 12-$ 15US, and the sides were 5 Euros or $ 6US. They have pizza at night if you want a classic Roman version, and an espresso is only 1.5 Euros or $ 2US. All my four meals were about 20 Euros or $ 23US for a main, side, wine, and water. The best thing about a neighborhood place like this is that they all welcomed me like family after my first visit, and I made friends with people at the neighboring table, who shared two meals with me there. If you only eat one meal in Rome, eat it HERE!

Found this place on Unilocal and it was great! The staff was very helpful with my 8 month old son and the food was great. Very simple menu with only things they are good at cooking. Would recommend this place to anyone who is willing to make the trip out of the tourist areas

We had a four course dinner here which was just spectacular. The bruschetta tavernaccia is a good choice if you want a selection of their best bruschetta. The suckling pig and lasagna are a must. My boyfriend said it was the best pork he’s ever had. The fantastic homemade tonarrelli is highly recommended. We advise making a reservation for dinner — the restaurant was packed with locals and tourists when we went.

Found this place on Unilocal and was not disappointed! The service was better than most of the places we’ve experienced in Rome — the staff was able to accommodate my wife and I in English — and we were treated kindly and with respect. It wasn’t too touristy either; I think that we were one of the only english-speaking tables in the restaurant. I ordered the wood fired suckling pig(13 euro) which was fatty, savory, and practically melted in my mouth! The potatoes on the side were scrumptious as well. My wife got the drunk quail and had to pick tiny bones out of the meat, but it was delicious as well. She said it was almost«too rich» of a dish as it was mostly sauce and meat but the flavors were wonderful. We also got tasty bruschetta for an appetizer — three pieces of toasted Italian bread and each one had a different topping. The house wine was wonderful as well; we got the red, fruity, house wine which was surprisingly affordable(4 .50 euro per glass). One thing I was surprised by, however, was that we were charged 2 euro for a tiny pitcher of water so next time I’d probably just get more wine. One note which might be helpful: the google maps location of the restaurant was off by about 2 blocks, so it might be helpful to ask for directions if you’re trying to find it.

I first read about this place online, then found it on Unilocal and saw that it was a quarter mile from where my wife and I were staying in Rome. Naturally we wanted to get away from the touristy café’s and get a true local meal. Well, when we left the restaurant after our meal about 7 of the 9 filled tables were Americans. So much for getting away from the tourists-I guess they were thinking the same thing we did. All that said, it is still be worth going! The wait staff was supremely friendly. We very much enjoyed making our waitress’ acquaintance(her name was Alice). The menu was small but full of different flavors-a great sign. The food was very good as well, and certainly not touristy. My wife had the rigatoni al’amitriciana, and I had the suckling pig. To be honest I liked hers better, but the pig was very flavorful and perfectly cooked: crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, with plenty of flavor. Of course, potatoes soaked up the juices and were delicious as well. All in all, I’d go back again if I stayed in trastevere, though I think I’d get something else and explore the menu a bit.

When we asked our B&B host where to get the best mom touristy food in Rome he told us there isn’t much in the center. So we took a bus south to this place and it was well worth the trip. Definitely has the Mom and Pop feel to it and they clearly want you to be happy. When we ordered the bruschetta our waitress even made a recommendation of what would go well together. 8 € for 1 liter of house wine and a 45 € meal in the end with wood fired suckling pig and wood fired lasagna that will live in my memory. Amazing.

The food was delicious. Service was great. If you want to taste real italian food, with no tourists around you, you have to try La Tavernaccia!

The place that was advised by Italian friends and satisfied all the expectations. Roman cuisine as it should be. Home style service and nice ambient interior. Really good pizza made in wood oven. Try also some of its Roman starters as bruschette con ciauscolo, one of the type of melted salami. My points: 4 out of 5. definitely worth trying.

This restaurant is a little out of the way, but do not let the location put you off. It is a real family restaurant, run by Mama and backed up by family and staff. The handwritten Italian-only menu was translated comprehensively for us and the food was excellent, as was the very reasonably priced, excellent wine. The food was also a little different from the standard pizza/pasta fare we got elsewhere in Rome, and I can highly recommend the meat dishes — in particular the bifsteak, which was totally out of this world delicious. The dessert, oh… The dessert :-) I will be back!
