Dundrum is a village of many sporting heros and one of the most famous ones is Stephen Roche. He is only the second cyclist in history to win the Triple Crown of overall victories in the Tour de France (1987) and Giro d’Italia stage races, plus victory in the World Cycling Championship. and is only from up the road in Meadowbrook.
You can imagine the pride the people of Dundrum had when he won, one of their own to become an international sporting star!
The monument to Stephen Roche was initially in the middle of Dundrum village but it has now been moved up to the new shopping centre, Dundrum town centre.
