I was in the area looking for a quick bite when I walked by insomnia. Fair prices, decent seating and music. I got a raspberry muffin with a cappuccino for a € 3 special, the coffee was great and muffin was delicious.

Came by this morning for a coffee with my boyfriend and left feeling a bit annoyed! I ordered coffee and was about to sit down and a little old man came in thinking I worked here and asked me for a tea. I just went along with it and said no problem then politely told the girl he wanted a tea and she said thank you. About ten minutes later the man was siting with his money in his hand waiting and he kept looking at me to get him tea. I felt so uncomfortable I couldn’t enjoy my coffee and the girl just kept serving people who were only walking in. Maybe she just forgot but as a staff member I think you should notice costumers sitting in the coffee shop. I politely went up ordered a tea and brought it to him with milk and sugar he said thank you and I left. The girl behind the counter said nothing. I don’t think I’ll be back again.

I know an expresso is a small coffee but this shower are taking that to an extreme: literally two teaspoons of coffee and served in a mug!!! I should have just given the guy the1.75 and left it at that. Why is it that in this country we literally have to manage these businesses ourselves and from the other side of the counter!

i used to love insomnia and if you had asked me when it first opened i would have given it four stars. but in today’s climate its a bit expensive for a sandwich that isnt as good as its competitors. the last time i went in to this branch they had run out of soy milk and hot chocolate, the salads seems limp and cakes sparse. on the up side there was plenty of free seating. also just to note each branch could easily have very different reviews and i was in this one on a sunday so that may explain the sparse/less then fresh stock.

Opening a coffee shop usually isn’t a big thing –but when Kilmainham’s tiny Spar on the South Circular Road opened its Insomnia Coffee Company in late ’09, there was cause for(minor) celebration. While businesses have been stationed here, just minutes from Kilmainham’s main attractions(the Gaol, the modern art museum and the Topaz petrol station), for many years at last this row of shops can offer local and touring foot traffic a place to stop and smell the lattes. Linked via an open doorway to neighbouring Eurospar, this clean, warm coffee house offers plenty of seating and a modest menu of soups, pre-packed sambos, pastries, smoothies… and of course, coffee(and tea, and hot chocolates). Outdoor seating is usually reserved for the indigenous teen population, though local garda will move them on once or twice in an afternoon. Inside it’s families and small groups of friends chatting, flipping through left behind copies of The Mail, Sun or Star. The staff are laid back but competent, clearing dishes and wiping down table fairly regularly. Other than the occasional plate collection, customers are generally left to themselves by the baristas — lending to a calm and relaxed atmosphere. Prices are reliably consistent with Insomnia’s other outlets, so expect to shell out € 2.50 for a regular Americano, € 3 and upwards for pastry and around € 5 + for sandwiches or soup.
