Doyles The Butcher

The presentation is good but the quality of the meat leaves a lot to be desired.
I wanted four filet steaks the same size but this was beyond what could be provided. I ended up with two adequate steaks, a much smaller one and a lump of gristle with a large blood vessel running through it. This last piece I cooked for myself and can safely say that it was inedible.
The attitude in the shop when I was buying was very much one of «what you see on the shelf is what we have» and I got the impression that no-​one working there was an actual butcher.

Doyles is a very fancy butchers indeed. The surroundings are modern the fare is top notch, and the butchers are clad in traditional striped navy aprons over white shirts and pants, topped off with a matching cap.
Cleverly positioned next door to Marks and Spencers, it will drag in trade from traditionalists who want a proper fillet steak, a half-​pond of mince and some good ol’ Irish sausages — though they must have some pretty stiff competition on the sausage front from the king of sausage making, Superquinn, which is across the street.

Doyles are a big name in butchering across Ireland. The family have been in the trade for many years and cater to a lot of restaurants in Ireland, as well as being responsible for the much spoken of Donnybrook Fair.
So, having done the glamourous news agents, Doyles The Butcher is a new concept from Doyle and company — a glamourous butcher shop. It works well, it’s bright, open and inviting and the meat is very, very good. So, if your in the Frascatti and cannot bear to buy all your food pre-​cooked in cellophane from Marx N Sparx try out the ritzy butchers that is Doyles.
Four stars for sparing me the agony of micro waving a fillet steak in a plastic box.
