I like steampunk. And I like gin. This place is a real find — moderately busy on a Wednesday night in November, great drinks & utterly unique décor. The menu has 93 gins; I had the house special of Napue gin & Fever Tree tonic, with rosemary & fresh cranberry garnish. Top drink. I’m a Londoner & frequent traveller, so I like to think I’ve pretty much«seen it all», but this is totally new. Really recommended!

Now this place was fun! The décor is absolutely amazing, fun and there are so many small details. There is even glitter on the ladies room floor! You can sit outside on the patio or inside with various different styles of seats, like bar top, couches, regular seats with tables, arm chairs etc. Staff is also wearing not-so-overly-done costumes and they hand out licorice. This venue had its own brewed beer, which tasted like pretty average hop beer, but a good attempt to sell and differ from other bars in the area. Would definitely go back again.

So this is one more place in the Helsinki bar scene with a very distinct theme. Owned by the same dudes who run places like Navy Jerry’s and Llamas — Steam offers us the beauty and weirdness of the Steam Punk style. The whole joint is marvelously decorated with even a friggin half-a-Zeppelin that blows out steam. The second gist of the joint is that they offer the largest selection of gins in Finland. Sure, that isn’t a crazy merit given the fact that we are in 5m population Finland, but nonetheless, if you’re into gin this is your place. Some people complain that Steam doesn’t serve enough choices of beers etc, but hey that isn’t their aim. Btw, they’ve now got their own Pilsner that actually was very tasty. The place gets crowded often so expect to wait in line when ordering. Also, this is not only Finland but also a fancyish place so you need bring in some buck. My suggestion: Gin and Tonic with Opihr gin, indian tonic, slices of ginger and some black pepper
