I won’t go back and I’ll tell you why. I left a review explaining how I felt about his disgusting, over and under cooked garbage they try to pass as food. The owner invited me down to see the freshness of their food and then threatened to sue me. Well, screw him and his crappy food.

Damn good eats and friendly service. They deserve a 4.6. I ate lunch with two others after visiting Joshua Tree NP… a real surprise. Definitely do the fried zuchini!

Guess John had my review deleted so I will repost it. WORSTPLACEINYUCCA next to eating human shit!!! Went here this past weekend and straight out the door everything about this place was bad. My girlfriend placed an order on the phone so it would be ready to pick up once we were in town. She stressed to the lady that she had a major onion allergy and that she wanted to make sure her food had no onion on it or was cooked near onion. The lady read back her order and stated it would have no onion. 5min go by and she called back to make changes to her sons order and when the«manager» read back the whole order she stated that my girlfriends order was cooked with and had onions on it. She stressed once again she was pregnant and was allergic to onion. The manager was very rude on the phone. Once we arrived the managers accuse for cooking it with onion was that they were busy and didn’t know they should not have cooked it with onion and that my girlfriend never told them. So the next week she called back to speak to a different manager. Come to find out it was the father of the other manager and was defending his daughter and being very rude and unprofessional. He was stating that everything was recorded and was calling my girlfriend a liar. We are currently taking legal actions against the restaurant for putting my girlfriend in harm and our child. There actions could have hospitalized her and our baby. They did not want to refund our money for our order nor replace it. Instead they wanted to say we were lying and had recordings of the conversation. If that’s true, then it will show that she stated about her onion allergy and should have made it right. I will never eat here again and will advise all the Marines I work with to never eat here and have them advise their Marines as well.

I just wanted to state that this place serves great homestyle food at low prices, and the staff are also very nice and friendly. And the guy who was ranting semi-coherently about the onion issue is an utter moron — as someone who has worked in restaurants and bars for 10+ years, I can tell you things like that happen all the time. Big f-ing deal! Good luck with that lawsuit, buddy — wish I could be there to see it get laughed out of court.

A good ‘ol fashioned diner with all of the American comfort food sprinkled with some Mexican favorites that one could ask for. I guess there is actually another John’s up the road in 29 Palms past Joshua Tree. Anyhow it’s a small place in a small town sprinkled with mom and pop shops like this sharing space with fast food and fast casual chain restaurants. I have a buddy who lives in Joshua Tree and have been helping with a move lately so he brought me here for a breakfast thank you meal. Friendly and courteous was the person behind the counter we ordered and plopped down in an old school booth and waited for our food. We both ordered breakfast burritos but could have easily chosen one of the many bacon and egg combos that filled the menu. They also have a full slate of burgers, sandwiches and salads plus some specials. Not a whole lot to report but my chorizo and egg burrito with hash browns was a winner. A good sized, if not a bit on the dry side, burrito with a small cup of spicy salsa to kick it up a bit. The cheese was melted perfectly. Still a nice slice of avocado would have added the perfect touch. None the less, I would order this again in a heartbeat. My friend ordered a bacon, egg and cheese burrito and was wise enough to add that aforementioned avocado and was glad he did. Somewhere between a 3 and a 4, I would call John’s a tweener. Fast and friendly service, reasonably priced, and clean place. Not sure what else you can ask for in a locals style highway diner. I would gladly go back.

For the 29 Johns Place. I believe there is a difference in quality at location. Our first go around in Yucca was unsatisfying. I order the Philly cheese steak the first time — all fat and grizzle, not edible whatsoever. Our second visit and why I’m giving it 5 stars for two step up from fast food that is fresh and doesn’t break the bank: I never like to leave a review over one bad experience and ruin a restuarants name, unless they need some serious damage control. So I waited until I tried again. We ate there yesterday and ordered chicken tenders they are okay. I wish places around here made fresh ones where they bread them themselves, like Hooters boneless wings, but you just won’t find them here in the desert. However, they were meaty and not all breading and nasty party of chicken. Nice white chicken. Ceaser salad — came untossed, but they fixed it with a great attitude. It is not made with romaine, it’s more of a spring/garden mix.(Probably to offset the cost of having to throw away romaine if enough ceasers are not ordered. California burrito — missing the sour cream and avacado, you need to ask for that to be added yourself. French dip — yay a meaty sandwich with little to no fat! It was on point, so to say. I really enjoyed it and the au jus that comes with it is also tasty. I really like that you can order a sanwhich without fries included and save a few dollars on something that you only take a couple of bites of, or just not really want. Fries are great, but too filling. Corn dog and fries, typical. Exactly what you would buy at a store and fry yourself. Service: exceptional, friendly, caring and warm. They also have military discount!

Great place to stop by after a day at the Hammers or Joshua Tree. The place looks super boring from outside but don’t let that fool you. These guys can cook! The Pastrami fries were so abusive but so good. Always a fan of this place.

Went back. I figured since the 29 Palms location is so good that they just had an off night. It WAS super busy. It happens. So, flash forward to tonight. Ordered a burger and zucchini(excellent!) and for my daughter soft chicken tacos. I asked«Do you have soft chicken tacos?». I was very specific. The guy said yes. I said great just please no sauce or onions. No problem. He confirmed my phone number and I hung up. I showed up and everything was in fact done. I was feeling good about my decision to go back. Until they went to ring me up, and the woman working there looked at me and said, «so my coworker didn’t realize we don’t have chicken tacos, we have chicken fajita tacos that have the onions and peppers already mixed in.» OK, again, something that can happen although they’re looking at two strikes since I was so specific when I ordered. «Why didn’t someone call me? You had my number, and unlike the last time I was in here, you aren’t busy at all. «I inquired.(I had looked at my phone just prior to go yet because I’m waiting for a call from a family member. No calls.) She looked me right in the eyes and said she had called me twice but I didn’t answer. I pulled up my call log and showed her that no one had called. Rather than check my number, she shrugged and said«well I called and you didn’t answer.» Yes, they did give me a discount, for messing up my order yet again but they didn’t do anything about the non-Ruben that I had last time and I still went away with an order that wasn’t what I had placed or expected when I arrived. For someone who just stops in on a road trip and gets exactly what they order, I understand five stars. When you get what you order the food is very good. When you don’t, I think they have enough business that they don’t really care to try and fix it. We won’t be going back. And I will be spreading the word.

Amazing place. GREATSERVICE. Great food. The two young girls that have been here awhile are amazing! The kind of girls any owner would want working for them. I love the food. Great American burgers. Best around! If you want a good burger and fries, come here FORSURE.

General fast-food diner with Americana food at a decent price. My guy and I were driving through on our way to Joshua tree and decided to stop by here. The food took a pretty long time to come out(25 min for a sandwich!??), and the atmosphere was rather unpleasant thanks to a group of older biker men telling a woman that she’s like sitting in their laps and sharing a table with them. Probably will not be stopping by online next trip that way.

I want to give this place a 2 star, my turkey burger bun was so bad I had to take it off and have the turkey only. The bun is not warmed and it was soggy and sweet. Probably the worst bun I ever had ??? Let me think about this … Think think think … The worst bun I ever had. When I picked up my burger, my fingers went straight into it and was falling apart. Sweet and weird ! Turkey paty was ok, my friends had the buffalo burger and said that the burger at the restaurant at pioneer town is better than this one but the main complaint was the bun. 3 out of 4 people took it off and tossed to the side . Fried zucchini gets 5 stars, mushroom gets 4 – 5, fries 4 stars, ranch sauce gets 5 stars . Bun gets minus 2 stars.

I don’t know how high all of the other reviewers were when the ate here were, but I was not. I am a cook. I love shortcuts, but not when the quality of the food is very, very low. I have been trying all of the local places, while I am staying here. I went to John’s and I was so disappointed. First, The waitress, while she was very nice, did not need to call everyone Honey. She Is much younger than most of the clientele and it was in no way endearing. I ordered bacon and eggs, hash browns(crispy) and a waffle. When it came to me, the first thing I did was ask that the waffle be heated enough to melt the butter. I should have known that the food would only be as tepid as the coffee. The bacon was okay, the eggs were over medium, as I asked, but nothing was very warm, let alone hot. The(frozen) hash browns, were a whole other problem. Well, kind of. They were not hot, but they somehow were hard as a rock, and not actually crisp. The food was mostly not hot and pretty mediocre. One of the hardest things to stomach was the other customers. Two very old dudes were loudly discussing how horrible the president was, because he was black. Now I am getting used to biting my tongue around here. The confederate flags are EVERYWHERE. People, there is a reason the south LOST. Then behind me, some blowhard that had such a limited vocabulary that most of the words out of his ugly mouth would be deleted on t.v. He was a construction worker. I felt awful for the other older guys who probably felt like shit(I hope) that they were unable to defend the honor of their wives by telling this A hole to shut up. He was loud and needed to be punched in his face. As I aid at the counter, I realized that the kid cooking, was out of his element. He needed help, badly. He needed experience. It is a small place, but come on, The FOODNEEDSTOBEHOT. I will not return.

This was our second time there and the food was pretty tasty both times. I ordered a chicken taco salad, which was huge and delicious! The kids shared a five piece chicken strip with fries plate and we brought home leftovers. We’ll try the breakfast menu when they open in 29 next month.

While some of the items are tasty, it seems they are relying on past reputation and a captive audience. The staff can be polite, or down right rude. The interior is clean, though very noisy. A few outdoor tables give a spectacular view of 29 Palms Highway. Doubt this place would survive in a more competitive environment.

Great place. reminds me of TOPS in East Pasadena. Came here with a co-worker for dinner a couple weeks back. Atmosphere: Old diner feel. but a nice one. Very well kept. You can always appreciate the old school 50’s feel. Food: Good! Bacon burger was great… cooked just right. Assembled nicely and presented in a suitable manner. They put a little effort into it and didn’t just plop a mess in front of your face. Had me some onion rings to go with it. YUM! I don’t quite remember much else to the meal. but overall it was good. We will be back!
