I like pie. I do. Whenever I’m in Wrightwood I stop in for a slice and a cup of coffee. I have never been disappointed. I’ve tried several of their fruit pies and they’re all fresh. The cherry raspberry pie is nice and tart. My favorite is their chocolate tart. I’m not sure how often they make it, but it is amazing! Buttery flaky crust with a rich buttery chocolaty filling. I would have bought the whole tart but there was only one piece left. Next time it will be mine!

They must put crack in their chocolate chip pie. One of the best we’ve ever had. We’d definitely recommend the pie. The sandwiches are just ho-hum.

Grape pie. Need I say more? Whole green grapes with a hint of cinnamon in a thick, CRISPY, buttery crust topped with freshly made vanilla scented whipped cream. Perfection! Pie so delicious I’m craving it right now. Cute location. Tons of guitars, records, and charm. Plus the million dollar view on their multi-level patio. I deducted a star because the employees could’ve been a tad more helpful and friendly(although it was quite hot that day and they seemed overheated); I wasn’t offered water, had to hunt for the forks and napkins, wasn’t told where I could sit, etc. Luckily we are going back to Wrightwood soon to pick up our little camper, so I can get more pie. And certainly even a slice to go! HINTHINT: Pie crust«cookies» lightly sprinkled with cinnamon sugar would be an amazing addition to the bakery counter.

They have a record player and a bunch of records for playing music! When I found this out, I decided to stay and hang out and enjoy my food and coffee. :) Checking out their coffee, I was glad to know that they use Groundworks. I ordered a soy latte. It was pretty good – frothy and somewhat nutty. Not amazing, but pretty good. I had the mesquite turkey sandwich with peppered jack cheese, which included a choice of chips or a small cup of canned mandarin oranges. I opted for the mandarin oranges, but ended up not eating them. I’m not really into canned fruit. They’re still in my refrigerator. The sandwich was spicy and smokin’. I ate only half of it since it was so large. I saved the rest so I could have something to eat after my hike on part of the PCT(glad I did!). Plus, I wanted to order some pie, which I didn’t eat until after my hike, along with the second half of my sandwich. I got the cherry and blueberry pie. Not sure if they use fresh berries, but the pie sure tasted very fresh – the berries exploding with flavor! Not overwhelmingly sweet, but was quite delightful. I think it tasted especially good as I sat on a mountain top, gazing at Catalina Island beyond the mountain ridges in the distance. The crust had a pleasant flaky consistency. Oh, yum! While at Joe’s, I overheard a conversation about other goodies they want to make in the future. So, they make their own stuff – from scratch. Good to know! Yeah, definitely NOT Marie Callendar’s! Besides selling pies, they have other stuff like gluten free macaroons, sugar-free cookies, and more. Also, there was an earlier Unilocal review about this place complaining about not being environmentally friendly. Well, my fellow Unilocaler, I am happy to report that they no longer use styrofoam cups(sadly, they still use styrofoam containers for to-go pie)! If you order your food in, they use good ol’ fashion ceramic plates and cups. They also use metal cutlery. This is a fun chill place to relax and enjoy something to eat before or after a crazy adventure in the mountains!

I’ll go with a pretty firm 5 stars for Joe Mudd’s. View? Joe Mudd’s sits on top of one of the main retail/touristy streets in Wrightwood. With that being said, the patio at Joe Mudd’s has a million dollar view of the town and the mountain across the way. Go up during the Spring and Summer when it’s warmer up in Wrightwood and you’ll be treated with a mid to high 60’s sunny day away from the smog and hustle and bustle of the cities down below. Pies? Yes sure. The pies are homemade and they’re pretty delish. Do they have a la mode? Of course they do, just ask for them to warm up your pie and give you a scoop and a half of vanilla ice cream. They also have sandwiches and coffee, drinks at Joe Mudd’s. Service? They ladies were really nice. One of the gals even came out to the patio and cleaned off our table when we were done with our pies and brought ice water out to us. The place still has an old school record(LP) player with old speakers. Cool! I like their 80’s music selections. Motorcycle friendly, clean, good pies, good service, nice views. I’ll definitely be back up to Joe Mudd’s on our next Angeles Crest Highway ride up the mountain. I think they’re about 50 miles up from the 210 freeway up ACH to Wrightwood.

I would have given it five stars the time before last but on my most recent visit I discovered the guitars and luthier have moved to another location in order to accommodate more seats in spite of having plenty of room outside to set up picnic tables. The pies and coffee are still great, the old scratchy records are still there to be played but half the charm and all of it’s genuine uniqueness are gone, imo. As it stands it’s another good café worthy of a visit but there is now little to differentiate it from any other good mom & pop tourist café in any other small mountain town. I’ll still visit but I can only tell others about it’s truly unique character in the past tense.

This is a hidden treasure in Wrightwood! We went for lunch and had the most amazing deli sandwich I’ve ever had. They use fresh rolls from a bakery down the mountain and the meat is fresh and not the typical prepackaged stuff. I had a roast beef and avocado with cheese and my husband had the mesquite turkey. Both were excellent. Service is great but it’s very small. There’s a nearby park if you can’t find a place to sit. I wish I didn’t live so far away!

This place is amazing! I’m not a fan of pie. At least I thought I wasn’t. Until I went here today. Reading the reviews now I wish I would of tried the coffee. My mind was just on pie, i guess… One bite of that coconut cream pie and i was absolutly hooked on their pies. It was incredible. My husband ordered the peach, blueberry and cranberry pie. Incredible! Each was served with HOMEMADE whipped cream. Rediculious! While we were leaving, I knew that we wouldnt be back soon so I ordered another slice to go. I had to try something else. I ordered the chocolate carmel pie made with a chocolate covered graham cracker crust. WOW! This place is truely special. These are definitly not«marie Calanders» pies. No way! This is a must if you are in Wrightwood.

an excellent reason to linger in wrightwood. i’ve been passing through town for years, but this is the kind of place that makes me want to spend more time here and come back sooner! very good espresso(groundworks), a great variety of pies that are made right there in front of you, and the guitar shop/luthier/repair guys are very sweet and cool. a decent variety of used and classic and a few new guitars. lots of LP records everywhere, and a stereo to play them on. i never even thought to see if there was wifi, because the place and the people were so much fun i never got to my laptop. BTW, i was served with a real dish and fork, perhaps the styro thing was when they were starting out(as reviewed a while back) ? wrightwood has never been cooler!

Been to this place twice. Now when we drive to Wrightwood, we have to stop here. They have pies, donuts, quiches, coffees and vintage guitars. Yeah you read right!!! Guitars! We met the owner at the vintage store down the street(he owns both stores). He is friendly and shares my husband’s passion for vintage guitars. We walked in to Joe Mudd’s because hubby wanted to see the guitars. I saw that they had cherry pie and had to try it. Leslie who works the counter is super friendly. Their cherry pie is delicious(and yes it is made on the premises). It is a sweet pie with a sugar crumble on top. Last time I was there, I waited an hour for it to come out of the oven. It is THAT good. I haven’t tried any of the other pies. I should next time I visit. I took away one star because they only have drip coffee and no espresso or lattes.

The ambiance of this place is great! I had the(fresh out of the oven) apple crisp and some peanut butter balls! Yum! The service was super friendly and attentive! I only wish I lived closer.
