This place is great! I love the Chicha morada and the Ceviche. The prices are reasonable, and the selection of other Peruvian foods is good! Usually have enough to take home because the portions are really generous. Will definitely come back…

The service was bad. We waited an hour to receive our meal. They claim to be busy with deliveries, I won’t be returning.

We had the roast chicken with frijoles and salad. The service was very attentive. They are very nice. It is unassuming. Lots of families. The chicken was moist, tasty and well seasoned. There’s is lots of seafood on the menu and a variety of fried rice. The rice platters looked terrific and huge. They also have ceviche. I definitely want to come back and try more things. A wonderful experience.

Very good food! The portions are huge! Especially the fried rice and soups! Had the mussel appetizer but didn’t know that it was served cold, I don’t eat cold seafood so the manager took it back without a problem and took it off the bill for me without asking. BYOB! I would go back any day!

I had the peruvian style shrimp fry rice and it was amazing! !! I had a take out order and usually with some restaurants they’ll cheat you out of the portion size compared to when your dining in but this place surly delivered. I cannot remember who’s review I read about having a large portion size, but this was 100% accurate. I had enough fried rice to feed 3 people. Also my niece who is 6 years old is quite the picky eater but when I gave her a spoonful of rice to try she said hmmmm can I have some more… lol so I highly recommend trying the shrimp fry rice and the place overall.

Pretty delicious Peruvian chicken lunch I enjoyed at Waka-Tay. Walking in the décor is nice and inviting; catering to casual unpretentious dining. Started off with a tasty tamale appetizer. It was a densely rich cornmeal filled with dark meat chicken, a boiled egg, and olives. I appreciated the shredded red onion on top which had a nice tart acidity that cut the tamale’s richness. For the entrée, I shared with my sister, the whole roasted chicken meal that includes a salad and French fries. The large portion of roasted chicken was perfectly moist, with a slightly crisp roasted skin, and deliciously seasoned with spices that Peruvian chicken is famous for. The famous Peruvian Huacatay sauce was tasty too, but I think it was a bit tame for my taste, as I could have used more heat and richness. The large side House salad and French fries were both very good. House salad was very fresh with crisp lettuce, crunchy carrots, and fresh tomatoes. French fries were yummy and fried perfectly to my taste with a light golden crisp with no hints of greasy oily flavor that bad fries are notorious for. Added in a side order of Muduros that were was solid. My only slight negative for Waka-Tay was that I was originally going to order a Lomo Saltado, but when I asked the waitress if I could substitute the white rice with yellow rice(after asking the kitchen), the waitress told me the substitution could not be accommodated. I was more than willing to pay a slight upcharge for the yellow rice(as it’s listed on the extras section of the menu), but I guess not? Overall delicious roast chicken served in large portions… sign me up for another visit!

The food, price, service, and portions were all phenomenal! My wife and I had dinner here on a Wednesday night, and had a great experience. She ordered the lomo soltado, and I had the chicken and beef fried rice. We honestly could have ordered only 1 meal between us, because the portion sizes were so large! We intend to be back here soon, as we are in the area, and also want to try them for take-out. Definitely recommend this restaurant!

I’ll start the review by saying it might be better to come on a weekend day. Never EVER come on a Monday. There’s about a dozen tables in the place and it was mostly full by 7:30pm though not initially at 6:30pm. We sat at one and wanted to order a Chica drink, but it was being made and would be too hot so we ordered a fruit shake instead. We ordered an appetizer. After talking with the kitchen they ran out. We ordered a different one. They ran out of that too. We asked what they had and ordered one of the recommendations. Oops, they actually didn’t have that. OK, no appetizer. Oh, the drink we ordered at least 20 minutes ago at this point? I had to ask about it and they didn’t have ANYFRUIT. Ok, just water. We ordered a side of sweet plantains. We ordered entrees and another server came by to deliver something we did not order. They were confused. There’s a pattern here. We got our entrees. The side of sweet plantains never arrived. Entirely too much noodles and not enough of the meats for a Tallarin Saltado Especial. While getting the check the server dripped sauce all over the table. I’ve had more things go wrong here than in years of going to other restaurants. One or two things can happen but this many is just unacceptable.

Divine… check out the Jalea! Crispy and tender, perfectly balanced with lime juice and onion. Not easy to find treat like this in Woodbridge. Keep it up. I will get shrimp chowder next time.

This Peruvian restaurant in Woodbridge has one of the best ceviches I have eaten in Jersey. Portions are huge, jalea familiar was big enough to feed 5 ppl! Arroz chaufa, sopa a la minuta, jalea, ceviche, chicharron de pescado… they are all delicious. The owners are very nice people, it’s also byob which is also great! This has officially become my favorite Peruvian restaurant.

Escabeche de pescado was to die for #OMG, a must get. I also had the treviche and the chaufa de camarones. The chaufa was good but I’ve had better. Make sure you order extra yellow-greenish sauce

We stopped here for dinner on our way to the Barron Arts Center. I have only been to one or two Peruvian restaurants before so I don’t have much experience with the cuisine. But I do know a good tamale and I’m always curious to taste the cultural variations. Peruvian includes olives which added a nice salty tone to the tamales. I enjoyed that. I also had Saudado de Mariscos, a seafood and fish stew. It was packed with seafood that included scallops on the shell, large shrimp, perfectly cooked calamari rings, mussels, and a fish filet on the bottom of the bowl… all surrounded by a flavorful tomato broth. It was served with a large side of white rice. The whole meal was enjoyable. Large portions and very reasonably priced. The staff was very attentive and friendly. We would come back again for sure.

We ordered the shrimp fried rice — best fried rice I’ve ever had ANYWHERE in any genre of food. Seriously, so delicious! We even asked for an extra container of that amazing yellow sauce to go lol. We also had the seafood ceviche and my boyfriend got the tallarin saltado de pollo. Everything was delicious. Portions are very big! We ordered 3 dishes for 3 people and left with three containers of leftovers. We will be back!

Just tried this place last night and was pleasantly surprised. Finally, something exciting in Woodbridge Township! The Tigre ceviche was über tasty. when I asked the server to remove my dish, she told me to dip my rice from my main dish in it because that is how it is traditionally eaten. Great tip and I enjoyed it that much more. The waka-tay steak is seasoned perfectly and with so much flavor and served with potatoes in a cilantro sauce. My husband had the steak with an egg on top. It should have oozed when he cut into the egg, but it was slightly overdone. He still said it was tasty. Would give them 5 stars, but it was really busy with one server on the floor and she could not fill our small water glasses up in a timely fashion and we felt we had to sip slowly. Also, my husband’s appetizer was really large and similar to his main dish. Would have loved the server to give us that info to possibly change his order. Super minor issues, but I loved the food and will go back or take-out. Portions are humongous and we enjoyed them the next day as well. They are open for breakfast on the weekends and they speak fluent Spanish as their language of choice. If they keep up what they are doing, this place will be packed every weekend.

So we like this place enough to order it twice in a weekend. They must have quite a following because they were all out of the fruit shakes I wanted to try, but that’s okay because what we got was delicious. I ordered the ceviche(the treviche) and it was great with the sweet potatoes in there. My boyfriend got the chicken chaufa and said it was good but didn’t top the ½ chicken he had the other day. We also got a tamal that was really tasty… but watch out for pits inside the olives! I could see the tamal being a full lunch if you don’t have a huge appetite!
