Typical American Chinese with Wide variety in menu with nothing that stands out, but nothing awful either. Chicken is generally good as are vegetables. Beef and seafood are less impressive. Probably 3.5 star worthy but I am giving some extra for The chicken fried rice, my wife’s fav. among several Chinese around here. They also have a small lunch buffet during weekdays

I thought I’d try this place out but found out that this is not the same as the chain known as «bamboo Garden». Buffet is only for lunch but not for dinner. I had two maki rolls, the rainbow and the south roll. Both rolls are just ok and not the greatest. Cut of the rolls were not even and flavor is lacking. I was disappointed because I have tasted better.

Rating based on the lunch buffet only. Would give 3.5 stars if I could. Came here for lunch with some coworkers. Parking was a breeze and the place looks very clean. Not a ton of options for the lunch buffet but the staple american chinese choices were there and they were of above average quality! For $ 9, I would be coming here pretty often if it was closer. You get your choice of soup with the meal as well. I got the hot and sour soup, which was flavorful and came with a good amount of tofu as well. The general tsos was very good as well as the sesame chicken and the rest of the dishes. The dishes were all fresh and hot when we visited which added to the experience. Overall, will definitely satisfy any chinese american food craving you have! Will be back.

Nothing special here. Ordered some takeout from BG because it was close to the hotel where I was staying — convenience won out. I don’t know how, but even the one-minute exchange to pay for and pick up my food wasn’t good. It’s hard to explain but it wasn’t friendly, it was more transactional. It didn’t help that when, after I paid, I was chided for trying to grab the only takeout bag on the counter because, I was told, it was not mine. Oh well. I can fully understand why their rating is what it is, and why there was only one couple in the restaurant at 7:30 for dinner service.

Went for lunch had a Shrimp Tempura Bento box. Plenty of food, a sad excuse for a california roll Tempura was a bit greasy. I had the option of a buffet but it was like 12 chafing dishes on a table, not a lot of variety so I ordered off the menu. Place is clean and well kept but the food is not much to cheer about

I stop there for the lunch buffet about once a week. They do good business at lunch, so everything is hot and fresh. Good deal for the money.

Got takeout from here tonight. Ugh, not a fan and certainly not what I remember from years ago. The Hot and Sour soup was SO spicy it wasn’t good. The Chicken Lo Mein was tasteless and bland. The Shrimp Fried Rice was okay but for a small order, there was only 4 shrimp in the entire box. The Boneless Spareribs were a travesty. The majority of them were nothing but fat that I had to continuously spit out. The ones I could manage to eat tasted like soggy, wilted lettuce that I ended up throwing away. I didn’t understand until I stirred the dish a bit and realized they put HOT meat on a bed of cold, shredded lettuce. WTF? Every single piece of meat was infused with a lettuce taste. It was the worst spare ribs I’ve ever eaten at a Chinese restaurant. I won’t go here again. So many better places to grab Chinese in the area — it’s a shame too, because the guy at the desk was really nice and my only reason for giving this place 2 stars instead of one.

Good Chinese food in Connecticut! We ordered chow mein, chow fun, fried rice, egg rolls and a few veggie dishes for take out. The dishes were a little salty and saucy, but I think that’s just because it’s Chinese food for east coasters. I’d go back again the next time I’m in town.

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant. My coworker and I often order take out during our lunch break. My favorite is the Chicken with Garlic sauce. The chicken is not fried, the vegetables are fresh and the sauce is awesome. I’d recommend not ordering takeout on a Thursday though as there is a different cook and the food isn’t quite as good as a Wednesday or Friday. Their Japanese food is also good and they make nice sushi rolls. The staff is very accommodating with requests for substitutions. We order so often that the man who answers the phone knows us by our order. We’ve picked up our food and seen other regulars who were each greeted in a friendly manner. I have eaten there for dinner and if you go between 5pm and 6pm the place is dead, you’ll have the restaurant to yourselves. Great value for great food.

I used to come here once a week for their lunch buffet and usually had a pleasant experience. As others have mentioned, it’s a small menu but overall, its good food. You would get the buffet, a soup and tea to top it off for $ 8.50 tax included. However, something very strange has happened here. Today when I stopped in, I noticed that all the real plates have been replaced with plastic plates and utensils for the buffet. The lunch buffet also took 15 minutes longer to load which sucks when you are on a schedule on a lunch break. I also did not recognize the majority of the faces there. If i had to guess, this place is going through some type transition. Also, they did not deliver my tea, even though I asked for it. They aimply didn’t answer my request. I dont think I will be back for some time but will give them another chance later. Overall, this last visit made me feel uneasy there when I used to feel comfortable.

Everyone’s taste in Chinese food is different — however, it goes without saying, if you can get it better anywhere else, that’s where you should be eating. So my guess for why there are reviews with more than 2 stars — and some serious praise — is that it can’t be found anywhere better by some of these reviewers. There are 2 other places(one in West Hartford & another in Siimsbury) that are way better. I won’t mention names because this is not their review & this is not the place. I’ve tried Bamboo Garden before, several times. And I just can’t say I like it, at all. I keep trying & it’s just terrible. DONOT waste your money here. This round, I got take out. And it is the last time this pathetic excuse for food, Chinese or otherwise, gets my money. I got the beef sticks — lacking in any flavor, except a distinct«this just might be too old to eat» just-spoiled taste to them. It could have been fish sauce, but I was not interested in eating any more to find out. And while fish sauce imparts a flavor — it is more umami than a distinct«fish» taste so doubtful it was fish sauce. This was a distinct«garbage-y» spoiled meat flavor. Once I caught wind of that, they went in the garbage. Other than that, the beef was tough, chewy, dry & missing the flavor you’re typically accustomed to with this dish. I have MOSTCERTAINLY had better beef«sticks», beef on a skewer, satay — whatever you want to call it — elsewhere. And so have you. AVOID. The egg drop soup — pathetic. WAY too gelatinous & I had to season it at home. This soup was totally lacking in any flavor whatsoever, except a hint of salt. Missing were the sliced green onions(some places use chives) I’ve had in MANY other versions. If there was once chicken broth used as a base, I would have been shocked. Seemed like yellow water with eggs in it. The Szechuan dumplings themselves were good, except for the sauce. Imagine warm peanut butter with onion in it. POOR example of any kind of Szechuan peanut sauce. Honestly, the sauce was disgusting. Bet it’s made with Skippy or Jiff. Onto the pork fried rice. Let me rephrase that — fried rice with some onions, a few peas, 2 sprouts(honest to god — two bean sprouts) and about a tablespoon of very small, finely diced, flavorless, dry, hard, chunks of pork. The pork weighed 1.4 ozs. I had to hunt to find the pork pieces. And there was zero egg in the fried rice. There were chunks of stuck-together white rice mixed into the otherwise darkish-brown rice that managed to get any of the soy sauce on it. Now, I have to admit — I hate bean sprouts so it wasn’t disappointing that there were only 2 that I had to avoid. But, given sprouts are such a major component — dare I say, a staple — in just about every fried rice dish I’ve ever had, that there were only 2 is a testimonial to how little this Chinese restaurant tries. Other examples of fried rice I’ve enjoyed were moist, flavorful & contained nice chunks of flavorful BBQ pork, scallions, sprouts(which I generally avoid), lots of bits of fried egg, peas, sometimes carrots & chopped cabbage 100% slop in a box. I’m Italian & I can make better pork fried rice — and I have. The only reasons they got a star is because 1) you have to give at least 1&2) I was hungry & the food cured me of that. But for all the wrong reasons…

Decent takeout Chinese food, and subpar sushi. I gave this place a try because I was in the area for a conference, and was simultaneously craving Chinese takeout and sushi. I ordered delivery to my hotel. The delivery took a while – about 50min, even though it was only a 5min drive from my hotel. The person on the phone was pretty nice though, explaining the delay to me. Usually when I call to inquire about late deliveries, the people on the phone at takeout places are rude or don’t want to help you. I ordered fried rice+tofu and a sweet potato roll. The fried rice and tofu were actually pretty good, above average in terms of takeout food. It didn’t taste like it was loaded with MSG, but rather just soy sauce or normal Asian sauces. It also wasn’t super greasy, and didn’t leave me feeling gross afterward. The sushi was pretty bad though. Perhaps because it took a while to deliver, the sweet potato tempura wasn’t crunchy or fresh at all. There was almost no taste to the sushi. I was disappointed because sweet potato sushi is usually a safe choice at any sushi restaurant. For a takeout place though, this is decent. If you want a quick junky meal fix, give it a try, but don’t expect anything too great.

Ugh. I suppose I should start this review by saying that this is in fact one of the worst Chinese restaurant I have ever been to. I bought 4 groupon coupons for this restaurant, each one good for two entrees. Of those 8 entrees, only a few of them were decent. The rest were pretty bad. The worst of the bunch was chicken with snow peas. The boiled chicken was flavorless, the boiled white rice was flavorless and the boiled peas were also similarly without flavor. When I got the dish home I had to drown the entire thing with sweet and sour spice to make it palatable. Not good for over $ 10. Here is my best advice: avoid this place. If you have to order from this place I highly recommend ordering pork with some kind of spice and make sure that they make it extra spicy. That will turn out ok. Otherwise you’ll get a very bland dish that’s pretty much inedible. I honestly wonder whether the people who own this place actually eat their own food. It lacks any character. The crab rangoon is quite good, and my rating is based on that and their top-of-the-shelf extra spicy Hunan pork. I’m being generous.

I was roped in to going. Even after warning my cohort about the reviews. It’s standard Chinese restaurant fare and it seems like more and more these places are doing a little Japanese, Korean, and Thai to diversify the menu. I’d imagine based on the location that it’s pretty busy during the week when all the office buildings are filled with workers. The décor is typical for what you’d expect, a little older with paper place-mats over the tablecloths. The service from the waiter wasn’t anything special. He was there to fill water, take an order, and communicate as little as possible. I’m not sure he even smiled at us. The food itself is OK — we shared a couple of lunch specials. China Sea in Windsor is slightly better in taste, but also not that great. Nothing was over cooked, and the fried rice wasn’t yellow. Nothing really had much taste or seasoning to it. Even the hot and sour soup wasn’t all that hot or sour. Pretty bland overall, which summarizes the whole experience. Bland.

Its one of the most pathetic Chinese restaurant in bloomfield CT. They have same buffet everyday. The items never changes. The food is sweet and not even close to being chinese. The service is extremely slow and servers are rude. It took them 20 min to get me water(after I asked third time). They never got my egg roll and garlic sauce on side. Its just a mess. I will suggest go only if you have no other chinese place around.

So, I must confess right off the bat; I have a serious addiction to Chinese Buffets. So, I may be partial but I think this place does stand above the rest for the reasons to follow. Mind you this is not a Chinese Buffet restaurant, it is a sit down restaurant, but if you are lucky enough to come in during the lunch time, they cater their own lunch buffet. After reading the other reviews thought I would add my take. The Crab Rangoons are sweet, creamy, full, and come with a thicker well fried crust that come pinched together at the top. The Sesame Chicken is actually made of discernible strips of white chicken with a thinner breading than you would see on normal sweat and sour chicken, with a sweet tangy sauce that is more rich than you would have with sweet and sour but not as spicy as general toas. The General Toas sauce is possibly the best flavored Toas sauce on the market, and as with the Seseme Chicken comes with discernible peices of chicken but only these are primarily dark meat chicken. I usually end up getting the sesame chicken and a side of the general Toas sauce to dip it in. The fried rice has a good mix of veggies and pork, soups are pretty standard, and the veggies have been fresh for every visit. If you order the veggie fried rice, the portion sizes vary from big to small depending on the day and it does not get fried with salt or pepper which you can add in afterward. Also worth noting, the recipes rely primarily on sauces and less on spices, so it tends to be more savory than the spicy you would taste if you were to have Indian food. They waitstaff is very polite, but English is definitely not their a first language so ordering can be a challenge. Also, when they first started the lunch buffet, it was a slow keeping the dishes full because their size restaurant can accommodate more seats than their buffet can handle. However, I haven’t had a problem the last dozen times I’ve come, as it seems they have worked out the initial operational issues and now anticipate the larger payday crowds.

Yes, there are some solid Chinese places in the Hartford(Butterfly, Black Bamboo), but I find myself wondering«why aren’t there better Chinese places in Windsor? Unfortunately, Bamboo Garden doesn’t answer that question. The food is halfway decent: the sushi is passable, the chicken dishes decent, the egg rolls aren’t terrible. The service is ok. There’s nothing that makes you want to run away, but nothing that really overwhelms your taste buds. That’s the problem, though: there is nothing that motivates you to go back to this place, other than a craving for a Chinese food and a lack of better options.
