BBQ runs out QUICK in Denver, Colorado. My friends and I went to at least 2 other BBQ joints before we came to this one. If you want BBQ, you best get it early in the day. The owner, CJ, closed up shop early with only a rack of ribs left, but was kind enough to offer them to us. We chatted with him while eating the delicious BBQ and sides! Thanks for the legit BBQ and southern hospitality!

They frickin’ folded! New owners inside cleaning up said they were going to reopen the place in a couple months.

Have been by twice now in the past month. Closed both times during normal hours, no signs. One time I stopped by I saw the owner, he said the smoker was broken. Tried calling and the number is disconnected. I really think the food here is great, but I have no idea what’s going on– if they’re still open or if they’re closed for good, or coming back soon… would really miss this place, great smoky bbq.

How have I not Unilocaled this place yet? Best. BBQ. In. Colorado. Yes, that’s a bold statement, but I’ll stand by it! Instead of raving about each and every item on the menu, I’m just going to tell you to tear your eyeballs away from whatever computer monitor, smartphone, or tablet you’re currently browsing and go stuff some of this perfectly cooked meat into your facehole. NOW. Seriously. Go. NOW.

This place is pretty darn good! I was not in love with their sides or bbq sauces, Im pretty sure each one has a ketchup base. They are not bad, but they are different. But the jalapeño cheddar cornbread and their other bread rolls are really good, and their meat is awesome!!! The chicken is smoked and sooo good, the brisket was my favorite. Best BBQ I have had in North Denver.

This little restaurant is sooooooooooooooo good! The ribs were amazing and the collard greens were the best I’ve had in a long time. Real southern cooking!

When Doug Y. says a place has good ribs, I’m on my way. I agree, the ribs were great. Meaty, well seasoned and cooked perfectly. I liked, but didn’t love, the barbecue sauce I chose. I went with a combo of half sweet and half spicy. Next time I’d ask for some of each so I could try them separately and mix my own. I also tried the cole slaw — very good; the jalapeño cheddar cornbread — great; and the beans — didn’t care for, but this is probably just a matter of personal taste. Save your beans eating for Burt’s or Famous Dave’s. Anxious to go back!

Wonderful food! Went in for dinner and it wasn’t that busy so we were able to talk to the owner about his life, his journey and how he ended up starting Kings BBQ. CJ also gave us the opportunity to ask lots of questions about the food, the sides, his sauces, and so on. It gave us really nice insight into his food and approach. Of the three other people I was with, we all ended up getting ribs. The meat fell right off the bone, perfectly done! Really excellent sauce. You can choose between sweet, hot and house or a combo of any. I personally had sweet and hot, a very nice combo. We had a few sides as well. The collard greens and coleslaw were great, although my corn-on-the-cob was a little soft. However, all in all, it was a spectacular visit. We’ll be back for sure! PS. They’re still working on getting their liquor license when they’ll be able to serve beer then.

Oh, Lord! Where do I start? As a Southerner myself, I very much enjoyed this BBQ place. Good Lord, best barbeque in town! Heck, probably the only barbeque in town. Great feel. Employees are legitimate Southerners, too, so it’s not called«Southern BBQ» just to drum up business. Very attentive. Their mamas should be proud. :-) Now for the food. Damn, son, I’ll tell ya what! You want great home cookin’, go home, but if you want the next best thing, Kings BBQ is where its at. Meat was«fall off the bone». Collards are nice(cooked in fatback, yum). And the corn bread?! The Good Lord must come down to bake it everyday! When I finished up my meal I had to make sure that the Rocky Mountains were still just to the west! Kings BBQ is truly home, away from home. :-)

I tried the pulled pork and the meat itself is very good and very smoky. They offer 3 different sauces, and I would recommend the sweet one above the others. My biggest gripe is the bun. Its just a plain hot-dog style bun and it gets soggy very quickly with the BBQ sauce. I would much prefer a buttered, hamburger style bun, but that’s just me. I also had the baked beans and they had great flavor. On top of it, the owner comes out to talk to you personally and he is super nice. When we went in, he told us that since being featured in the Westword, he has been running out of things earlier than planned, so try to go earlier in the day to get what you want.

I had the opportunity to try this place out the other day and I while I think they could expand their selection a bit, the food that they do have is pretty darn good. I had the pulled pork sandwich, fries, jalapeño corn bread and slaw. I did a mild sauce this time and it was pretty good with just that right amount of zest. The pork was sweet, the portions were hearty and I don’t usually rave about coleslaw but… wow it was really good! For now this place gets four stars from me. I’ll add another when they start serving beer(which I heard is coming soon). Good eats.

If you’re looking for a place where the owner will know your name and treat you like you’re family, then King’s is the place for you. CJ, the owner, is a genuinely nice person and I wish him all the success in the world. I had the brisket and it was great, very smokey with a fantastic bark! Be warned the brisket was fatty, which I like, but if you’re looking for a leaner brisket this probably isn’t the best thing to order. My girlfriend had the pulled pork sandwich and thought it was good. Again, great smokey flavor but we both wanted a better/more substantial bun. Maybe something that was buttered and then toasted could hold up to the BBQ sauce and the pork. Because the bun was softer, the sandwich kind of fell apart. Finally we had the southern style beans which were good not great. I’m difficult to please when it comes to baked beans, and I find that most BBQ joints in Denver have terrible beans, so a «good not great» review is probably better than average coming from me. They have three BBQ sauces: a spicy, a sweet, and a house sauce. I think the best was the sweet, second was the house, and I liked the spicy least. At most BBQ places I prefer the spicy or vinegar sauce the best so this ranking is abnormal for me. The sweet just had the best flavor, while the spicy needed another kick. The place is simple and has a dive kind of feel but it’s clean. The menu is simple and straightforward, which I liked. But according to CJ, and to my girlfriend’s liking, King’s will be adding some«more trendy» offerings and some combo options soon. I look forward to seeing what they have in store. Overall the place was good, clean, friendly and I’ll be back. They have a brisket to rival Lulu’s in Louisville, which I’ve thought was the best in the area for awhile; and, after having King’s a few more times, I might be able to say it’s the best in town… but I’ll need a couple more visits before I make that determination. Unfortunately for my girlfriend, King’s, as with almost every other BBQ place in town, again left her complaining, «why doesn’t anyone have peach cobbler in this town?!» Here’s hoping one of CJ’s new offerings is peach cobbler I guess :-)

The owner here is super nice. He knows his BBQ and how others cheat at it and how he doesn’t want to be like them. He comes and talks to the kids and caters to their little mouths with a roll for each to make a sandwich. We were there at closing time and kept bring ing thing to try like ribs, and I saw him do that to multiple customers. His spicy sauce had a little kick. His bark was good. Good smoke ring. Real smoke flavor. Not slathered in sauce. Falls off the bone. I like my pulled pork pulled instead of chopped personally, but I think I’m not the norm there. I’ll go back. He’s got a good product and few others compare. He’s on the higher echelon of BBQ.

I’ve been lucky to taste tasty barbecue all over the country, from the midwest, to the south, to the east, west, and beyond. It’s a true treat to have such an authentic local barbecue joint, and with such cool folks bringing it. So, since it was my first time there, I tried the basic Pulled Pork to get my feet wet. The pork was excellent(anyone else crave burnt ends?!). I like my BBQ spicy, but asked for some of the sweet sauce & hot BBQ sauce to check out both… I ended up putting them together and the combo was seriously addictive. I have to admit, I surrendered to the calorie splurge and I mixed my pulled pork and sauce in with a side of their homemade Mac and Cheese… HOLYCRACKERS was that delicious… I am sure I added some meat on MY bones with that concoction, but what the heck… I want more. My buddy had the BBQ wings and said they were amazing. Those wings were the biggest & meatiest I’ve ever seen. So, read the Unilocal reviews, fire up your GPS, take a drive past Lakeside Amusement Park on your way(just for the memories), then check out Kings for an even more memorable Denver Q. You won’t be sorry.

Very, very good food. Also very affordable. I love their hot BBQ sauce. It’s actually spicy. Nothing is ever spicy to me, but that sauce definitely has a kick. Brisket is delicious, seriously. sooo good. The employees are also extremely friendly and helpful.

This place is great, and it is a huge improvement over the last ownership. This place has incredible ribs and my wife thinks it’s the best potato salad she has ever had! We take everyone to this place. I have had the brisket and the pulled pork and both are great. I wouldn’t recommend the mac&cheese thought, it’s been pretty dry each time I’ve had it. But come get some BBQ you will not be disappointed!

Kings BBQ is the best BBQ in Denver. CJ and DJ are extremely knowledgable BBQ chefs who enjoy what they do. The BBQ ribs, pulled pork, Brisket, fries, beans, and potato salad are all awesome. I look forward to trying the rest of the menu asap! Cheers for Kings BBQ Finally some real Southern BBQ in Denver!

Everything a BBQ joint should be… great Brisket and pulled Pork. The meat could actually stand on it’s own, but is enhanced with awesome sauce. Solid Coleslaw, and the best Potato Salad! I never like potato salad except when I make it… but I think this beats mine. Did I mention the sauce? Wonderful!!! We also had the wings… with both the sweet and hot bbq. Now, we are wing people, and these wings were so crispy, perfectly battered, tender and meaty. We might have to say they are among the best we’ve ever had. Simple, no frills décor, but clean and pleasant. The owner is very kind and friendly. Great customer service by both him and the gal taking the orders. Very good value as well.

I work nearby and tried the old BBQ place that used to be here once and went to this place today for lunch. After comparing the two, Kings has better BBQ and sauce. I had the beef brisket sandwich with the sweet BBQ sauce and it was amazing. I am going to bring my husband sometime soon!

King’s is a huge improvement over the previous BBQ joint that resided in this location. The 5-bone rib special is a solid value. For about $ 10, you get 5 ribs, a side, a cornbread and a drink. The ribs are thick, juicy and flavorful. King’s sauce is the star of the show, featuring a fusion of Carolina Mustard, Sweet KC and Texas heat. So great! The beans & collard greens are also excellent. King’s is a welcomed addition to the neighborhood. The owner, CJ, takes great pride in his food… and he SHOULD! It’s delicious.
