Moved here 3 months ago from Oahu, Hawaii! And not able to have a local food to eat is kinda hard. A friend of mine said there’s a L&L and we should try it! Definitely worth the drive and the food is «ONO!» We definitely will be back! Mahalo, for the«ONOGRINDZ!»

I was driving around looking for a place to eat with colleagues when out of the corner of my eyes, I saw L&L Drive In. L&L as in the Hawaiian local kine plate lunch place? Yup, the one and only… I quickly crossed lanes to make the exit to enter the strip mall. Was it worth it? Oh yeah! Being a visitor to SLC, I can not comment about the location, but for me, it was a fortuitous find. Many of local food plates were offered, all local style which means two scoops or rice and macaroni salad — lau lau plate, chicken katsu, Korean BBQ, so many to choose. Our group of three ordered the three previously mentioned. Any regrets? Only one… I should have ordered the smaller portion — the regular portion was waaay to much that I was not hungry until late. Unfortunately, the poke is offered only on Firday, Saturday, and Sunday, so I was unable to have some of it. Who would have thought that there would be a little bit of Hawaii’s local food in SLC? Authentic? Yes; Good? Oh yeah… would I return? Definitely. As we say in Hawaii, «ono brah.» OH yeah, others complained about the slow service, well, remember, it’s Hawaii time… the only thing that would make it better would be a side order of kim chee…

Flavors just aren’t there. Bland, greasy, cheap, fatty cuts of meat. Sauce is processed, fries from a bag, sides lack flavor, BBQ burger tasted off. Kalbi had little edible meat and was very dry. Chicken Katsu was dry as well, and bland. Beyond that, service lacks terribly here. Last visit no one was manning the counter, had to wait way too long. On my first visit the girls taking orders were flirting with customers and lounging around lazily, not paying attention while customers were waiting. Dining area was dirty on both occasions. On my latest visit, tables were cleaner, but floor and soda area were filthy. Time to get your butts out of the chairs and keep this place cleaner.

Horrible. Food is gross. Customer service is horrible. I use to go to the one down town and it was soooo much better there. I feel the workers are lazy and the food reflects that attitude. I will not be eating here again.

The food is okay I order the BBQ chicken Saimin specially, the chicken was like it was boiled in the oven, it’s doesn’t taste BBQ, more like teriyaki.

It was just okay… Meat was dry and I had to bring it back with sauce, that only gave me a over sauced meal. Side are rice and salad or Mac salad that was pretty good. Prices for this food was higher price, 15 and lower. I havnt been back

So glad they moved and that the location is much closer. I dreaded driving downtown for this! L&L is located in the same lot as Winco next to the Maverik and other small restaurants next door. Food portions are enormous! If you want to get your money’s worth of meat, I would suggest this place. I would be amazed if someone could finish the box in one sitting. I normally go for the BBQ mix plate($ 10.45) that comes with BBQ chicken, beef, and short ribs. All combination plates come with two scoops of white rice, macaroni salad, and about a handful of raw cabbage. Macaroni salad is my favorite part! Rice is super soft and sticky. mm. Chicken is sometimes cooked too long and ends up dry but I was happy with the outcome this time. I’ve also had the chicken katsu which is also good but I like the variety I get with the mix plate. Service was slow. We had to wait a while at the counter before someone could help us. I also went back to get water cups but no one would come out. Self-serve it is. Others have also recommended the Loco Moco plate and the Spam Musubi’s which I will have to try next!

the bbq mix is my go to order. you get a decent portion of food for a good price. everything always taste great. the only complaint is that they no longer offer their sauces to go. the last time i asked the girl said it was because they already marinate their meat. which is fine but sometimes it can be a little on the dry side. i always order to go then end up having to use teriyaki or seasoning sauce from home.

L&L definitely isn’t fine cuisine. But sometimes, you don’t need fine dining. What you need is a plat full of barbecued meats and fried chicken. You need macoroni slathered in mayo and sticky white rice. You need fried spam topped white rice and wrapped in seaweed. You NEED it. You may not even know you needed it until you’re there, trying to shove the last scraps into your face right before you waddle out the door. The flamboyant man behind the counter was funny. It’s clean, there’s really no customer service. You place your order at the front desk and then they call you and you pick your food up, that’s all there is to it. Count this as your breakfast, lunch and dinner. Because unless you’re 500 pounds, I doubt you’ll need to eat again for the day if you eat here.

Good olé L & L! Good plate lunch — big enough to share. The short ribs were flavorful and juicy — I read a review that said they were dry, mine were perfectly cooked. I got he mix seafood plate so I also had fried shrimp and Mahi. The seafood seemed fresh(fresh frozen I’m sure) but came out tasty, hot and crispy. Good food at a good price and consistent with the L&L franchise. My husband ordered the double cheeseburger and was very pleased. Said the over all flavor was delicious and juicy. Good to know!

I like it. Use to come here all the time up on 400 S. when I worked up there, now that I don’t work up there anymore they are closer to home. Can be on the pricey side but I like the BBQ combo and that’s what I recommend.

I arrive and no one is working the grill. We decided to order thinking that maybe the cooks just stepped out for a break and will be back and the cashier embarrassingly says–«I don’t know where the cooks are.» I ask her if we should continue to order and she says yes and that they SHOULD be back… Okay? My boyfriend and finish placing our order and the cashier says-” wait I don’t know how to work the register.“ WTF??? This is all getting a little unorganized. She apologizes and gives someone a call(I’m assuming it’s her manager) and in a panic state on the phone says the registers are down. Her manager puts her on a long hold while I’m still standing in line wondering if anyone is going to show up. After 5 minutes of her waiting on the phone i decided to leave. I’ll be honest, it didn’t look like the kitchen was even open and if it was why wasn’t anyone cooking or prepping food in there? Where did the cooks go? If systems were down then why is the establishment still open giving people the impression that food is being served? Why didn’t the cashier know the whereabouts of the cooks? This all seems sketchy to me. Will I be back here? Never.

First time in here. Got the katsu. The chicken is great but the sauce completely murders this for me. All premade-on display and its so plain. Moki’s sauce… now that has crack in it! No but really, if Moki’s sauce and L&L’s chicken came together, I’d be in heaven. But as it stands, Moki’s chicken isn’t too bad however they definitely got the sauce! The rice tasted like too much water was cooked with it. And the macaroni salad just wasn’t appealing.

Love this place! You never know what you have until it is gone. I moved out of state a few years back and it lacks heavily of places like this. Whenever I visit L&Ls is a must! I love the half and half BBQ chicken and chicken Katsu.

This place has gone down hill big time! The food doesn’t seem fresh anymore. Customer service is garbage. I’m a huge Polynesian fan for food and this is a joke. Last time and final time I go to this location. Meat was partially cold. Macaroni salad was old. Time for something else.

For going on ten years or so, I work out in Hawaii on Kona or Oahu for a month or two every year or so. While I am there, I eat at L&L at least 3 times a week. No joke. I would say honestly it’s more like four to five, but I don’t want you people to judge me! This, was hands down the worst representation of L&L’s food I have ever had. I usually go for the pulled pork plate when I am on Kona,(it is amazing.) But my gal and I decided to try the BBQ mixed plate this time… There was literally more fat on our pieces of chicken, then there was actual chicken. Absolutely disgusting. And the ribs were nothing but bone, and fat. That’s it. Okay to be fair there were a few dime sized chunks of meat mixed in each row. But I wasn’t willing to dig them out of the teriyaki flavored rubber band like fat and gristle they were wrapped in. This is the first review I have ever been compelled to write, I love food, and will eat almost anything. But I write this in hopes that L&L will get their act together, because I am a huge fan of their food. But dang, they have a lot of work to do on their West Valley location.

The food was alright… I ordered the plate with 3 meats. The chicken was very delicious and they gave me quite a bit. The other stuff was lacking. The short rib they gave me was mostly fat and dried out. The bulgogi type meat tasted like beef jerkey. It was dried out like jerkey too. I most likely won’t be back. I have had great Hawaiin food and this doesn’t qualify.

I wish I could give negative stars. This location is a disgrace to the L&L franchise. And it sucks that it’s the only one in Utah :(We drive all the way to Mo’ Bettahs when we want some good Hawaiian BBQ. My family got food poisoning from this place! Do not eat here, it is not sanitary and they make their chicken by boiling it Mexican style, not barbecuing it Hawaiian style. If I wanted Mexican food I would go to a Mexican restaurant.

Wow what happen. I’ve enjoyed your food for the past few years and have recommended so many friends and family to your restaurant. Since moving to West Valley, I’ve heard of complaints about the taste and portion of your combos. Not until today I have personally witnessed what they were talking about. Mac salad is mushy with no flavor and the portion of two scoops of a regular fork. The rice is over cooked(C’mon man! You are representing Hawaiian Style! At least set the rice cooker correctly so that we can believe you guys know how to make rice smh). Chicken was so-so and the teriyaki beef was good. Back to the portions, this was by far the worse I have ever seen you guys done.

I went to L & L when they first opened around here and the food was good. Reminded me of home. After time they settle in and the food settles into a bland component. The same when they opened their second place in Salt Lake. Now, the second place moves to West Valley and the food is still the same. Not overly great, but not terrible bad either. They are the only Hawaiian Food place I have found so far that actually carries Lau Lau’s. If they could carry poi it would make my day. Week old poi and they would make my life. Opihi would be a nice touch.

Changing my previous review. Walk into the rest room, as a member of the kitchen staff was leaving. She did not washed her hands! Even though their food is good, apparently their hygiene habits are not. They wouldn’t even get 1 star, if it was required for the review. We will NOT be returning.

I remember going to the location by the U a couple years ago, and I thought at that time it was pretty good but nothing too memorable so why not give it a try again. I ordered the bbq mix plate which was just under $ 10 and spam musubi for under $ 3. The combo plate came with short ribs, bbq chicken, bbq beef, a scoop of macaroni salad and 2 scoops of white rice. The portion was bigger than I expected… I only finished half of it and I was stuffed. The meat was seasoned nicely, but my only complaint was with the ratio of way too much rice compared to the spam in the musubi.
