I was SO excited to try Free Range this weekend. We went to the farmers market location and the line wasn’t long which was awesome! I ordered the bacon, egg and cheese biscuit sandwich. First the woman that took my order indicated that they were out of cheese, which I understand that happens. However, she seemed really annoyed that it took me a millisecond to decide if I still wanted to order that sandwich and was kind of a jerk in the process. Mind you, there was NOONE in line behind me and it wasn’t like I was ordering two seconds right before closing time. So, Strike 1. the service was lackluster. Strike 2. No cheese on a bacon, egg & cheese biscuit. Strike 3. The biscuit was like a rock. It felt like I was eating a week old biscuit. Based on the amount of money paid, overall experience, and product I received from Free Range, I think a sandwich from McDonald’s(and the service) would have been more pleasant. Never again. What a let down.

Best damn chicken sandwich I’ve ever had. The chicken is juicy and the workers are cool explaining menu and options with great recommendations.

Chicken sandwiches for breakfast? Came to the farmers market on melrose one Sunday morning and ended up getting a bit hungry being that it was a very warm summer morning. I saw the long line around this truck/stand which I thought meant that there must be some good food being served. After waiting a good 20mins in the hot sun, turns out this chicken sandwich was nothing but hype. The chicken itself wasn’t that bad but I feel it wasn’t worth the twelve or so dollars I spent for it especially since the sandwich itself was somewhat small. I think I will stay away from chicken sandwiches in the morning from now on.

I came by today since I was in LA and I’ve been wanting to try this. I had expectations and I can’t say they were met. I’m all about trying good food with great service. My friend and I got the honey sirracha chicken sandwich togo which I’ve been seeing everywhere. Maybe it was sitting there for awhile even though we waited in front of the truck but it wasn’t that hot and fresh to me. The biscuit was heavy and dry. And I just couldn’t finish it. So I paid $ 10 ish to eat basically just the chicken part. The menu has no description and was written with sharpie on a white paper, wish they had some details because I felt so bad asking the lady every time, who seemed a little reluctant to answer me. Try it out for yourself, different times different experiences!

The food from Free Range is insanely delicious! My favorites are The Wolf, Avocado Toast, and Honey Sriracha biscuit. Friends and followers alike will be jealous of your righteous meal!

Please tell your customers that you put ketchup on the breakfast sandwich so they don’t go home expecting bacon eggy yumminess and instead bite into a tangy sour soggy ketchup bun. Also, the menu needs to be updated and include a little more detail. The staff could be a bit friendlier as well. Last time there was a young woman who was extremely rude and acted like she was being bothered by working there. 2 stars for the yummy honey sriracha sauce, that stuff won my heart all on its own. Good biscuits, too.

BLUF: Absolutely horrible. This isn’t just another food truck, this is a horrible food truck. Food: Burnt on the outside, soggy on the inside, and the only discernible taste was that of salt. Staff: Rude and pretentious. They talked down to me and acted as if I should be honored to eat at their food truck. Don’t waste your time or money here.

Ahhmmazzing! I’ve been trying to go to this food truck forever and finally got the chance on Sunday. They were located at the Melrose farmers market from 9 am — 2 pm. The farmers market itself was pretty small but it’s still nice to walk around. I ordered the honey sriracha biscuit and the OG chicken sandwich. I watched as they fried the chicken, and dipped it in the honey sriracha glaze. Then they placed a fried egg on top and sandwiched it between two buttery biscuits. The OG chicken sandwich was so good! The fried chicken was tender and moist, and wasn’t oily at all. I loved the cole slaw that came with the sandwich! I think I have to try their crispy potatoes next time! They post where they’ll be on their IG, so stalk them and get yourself a sandwich!

The chicken is juicy with a nice crisp coating, the buns have a good toast to them that leaves the inside with a nice chew, and they don’t go overboard with seasonings. Overall a well balanced sandwich. Also service was fast and friendly.

OMG. These fried chicken sandwiches are SO good. I couldn’t stop raving about them afterwards. Now, all I can think about is when I can get a hold of my next one. I drove all the way to the Melrose Farmer’s Market for these babies. They have their own stand towards the end, where you order your food and you can eat it there or take it to go. I got mine to eat there(I wanted to enjoy it while they were still super fresh) and ate on the sidewalk. So worth it! I’ve been following Free Range on Instagram for a while now. They constantly post major #foodporn pics of their beautiful sandwiches. You should check it out — they’re constantly posting where they are and their specials. Just by looking at the pics, you will see what I mean. They look huge, delicious, and innovative. These fried chicken sandwiches are not for the faint of heart but they’re worth every single calorie. I got their O.G. fried chicken sandwich which comes with their signature tempura fried free range chicken, Fresno chili coleslaw, and whole grain honey mustard sauce all on top of a toasted Portuguese bun. AMAZING! The fried chicken has to be one of the most moist and tender chickens I have ever had. They have executed this thing perfectly with a crispy and crunchy batter that isn’t overly oily or salty and a super moist chicken. I could just eat this chicken by itself. However, the condiments and slaw is what really ties the entire sandwich all together. The coleslaw was tangy and the Portuguese bun was slightly sweet. All the components to the sandwich added different flavors to the sandwich but it was absolutely perfect. My boyfriend got their honey sriracha chicken sandwich on a biscuit which was good as well. I just didn’t like the biscuit so much. The biscuit was extremely thick and dense(quite possibly too large for me) that made it really difficult to eat. I am also probably biased since I’m not the biggest fan of biscuits to begin with. On the contrary, the chicken was still really good and the honey sriracha glaze was a nice touch to the dish. It was very flavorful and not too spicy. What I truly appreciated about the chicken was that it wasn’t drenched in the sauce. Out of the two though, I would definitely choose the original over this one any day. To share, we got an order of the twice cooked and hand torn crispy potatoes. These were amazing! They were still crunchy on the exterior and soft and creamy on the inside. They had just the right amount of salt for seasoning. I highly suggest this to share! If you haven’t visited Free Range just yet, please do yourself a favor and find out where they are next to indulge in a sandwich! You won’t regret it.

One star for the staff– they were nice and helpful. Food took 25 min and there was only 3 people in front of me. 26 $ for 2 siracha honey biscuits?. First bite tasted like I had a spoonful of honey– gross! The chicken is dark meat and not cleaned well. Chick fil a taste waaaaay better! Took 2 bites and sadly tossed it in trash. Never again! Gave my Bf the runs too lol tmi

Personally hate the whole trendy food truck scene since I’m not into paying observant fees to stand around and eat uncomfortably off a street. Long gone are the old school cheap eats found at your local roach coach. In any case, being the hater that I am I was pleasantly surprised with the tasty biscuit sandwiches they were producing. I love me some flaky buttery biscuits with flavor and theirs lived up to the hype. The good thing is they park outside of coffee shops with seating which makes it easier to consume food in comfort. If that weren’t the case I would’ve written them off with the rest of the trucks. I’d say they’re better than Egg Slut.

I’ve been trying to get these sandwiches for 5 weeks now. 1st time, line was too long. 2nd time cc machine was down cash only. 3rd time they were late setting up and I had to be at work by 10:30. 4th Time line too long again. 5th times a charm. Waited while they finished setting up. The breading on the chicken is superb. Juiciest fried chicken I’ve had in a long while. We got a plethora of items 4 sandwiches and the breakfast platter. $ 80 later eeesh pretty steep for a sandwich place at the farmers market if you ask me. It’s a good thing the sand which were so good or I would have been pissed. Haha

It seems the food truck scene has truly stepped up its game in the last decade or so, and with this in mind, I was not hesitant in the least to try Free Range, a food truck that sets up shop on Melrose.(Well, more like«sets up tent».) They have 6 or so menu items, but rumor had it that their Fried Chicken Honey Sriracha Biscuit w/Egg was the thing to get, so for $ 9, that’s what I did. Overall, I will say that the sandwich was fantasmic. The chicken is real, fresh, and is cooked on the spot. It is doused in honey tinged with sriracha sauce(the bottled red sauce you see at every phở restaurant), topped with a perfectly fried egg. The honey is more potent than the sauce, giving it an overall sweet taste with just a minor spicy kick. The egg goes a long way in balancing out the sweetness from the honey. Apparently it’s supposed to come on a biscuit, but mine came on a regular bun. Maybe they were biscuitless at the time? Though darn delicious, you are definitely not getting full on one sandwich(I could easily down 2), so at $ 9, it seems like more of a luxury snack item. Speaking from cost performance, the lack of biscuit(or any explanation for its absence when I was there), and the fact that the chicken could have been a tad thicker, I’m going with 4 stars.

I am a huge chicken fan and I have to say this is my ultimate favorite chicken sandwich. They come to the Melrose Farmer’s Market every Sunday until 2pm and it’s the perfect meal to enjoy on a nice sunny day. The line is sometimes long, but it goes by pretty fast. I usually order the regular fried chicken sandwich, which I believe now costs $ 11 and I sometimes like to add a fried egg to it for an extra $ 1. It’s a bit pricey for a chicken sandwich, but totally worth it! The chicken itself is really succulent and is cooked in a tempura batter that makes it taste really crispy and light. The brioche bun is cooked nicely as well. It also comes with a jalapeño slaw in the sandwich which really completes it. I’m not a big fan of any type of coleslaw, but this one has a more pickled taste and tastes really fresh and not heavy like most slaws are. Be sure to grab some napkins as well because it can get messy. Overall, this is probably the best chicken sandwich you can get in LA. It’s on point every time. Keep up the good work, Free Range :)

I was so excited for this place. I follow them on instagram and I have been craving this place(no lie) for 2 months. I was very, very excited to try it. I was SO excited that I woke my bf early on a Sunday and told him that we were going, no argument(he usually makes 90% of our food decisions, so this was a BIG deal). We also compete over who can pick a better meal. This meal was lacking. I was so dissapointed! I had the(sweet spicy) chicken sandwich with egg, he had the breakfast platter. The chicken was kinda soggy, the sandwich was not very saucy, the biscuits were served with no butter or honey. Overall all a major let down. My bf said it was because we went to the farmer’s market and not the truck. I will revise my review after trying the truck. But until then I remain completely underwhelmed.

Honestly this is one of my favorite food spots in LA. I got the chicken sriracha sandwich on a biscuit with bacon(definitely add bacon). Omg I didn’t know if I should savor this and slow down or eat it way too fast because it was so delicious! I also got the brussel sprout special with an egg on top. Wow! The best Brussels I’ve had anywhere and I try the brussel sprout dishes basically everywhere I go. I also love how prominently they us their social media and how often they do food specials. They really care about their clientele. Also very fondly in person! Thanks Free Range LA, keeping doing you!

I’ve recently discovered that the Free Range LA truck comes to the downtown area and parks in front of Stumptown Coffee, so a group of friends and I decided to start the day with some good ol’ fried chicken. The line was surprisingly not that long, especially for a beautiful Saturday morning, so we ordered one by one. I decided to get the signature fried chicken sandwich since it was my first time. The first thing I noticed about this sandwich, after biting into it, was that the chicken is superb. I’ve had fried chicken many times before, and somehow always find a couple of inedible parts. But the fried chicken that Free Range uses… oh my goodness. Really top-notch chicken. The coleslaw in the sandwich is also great. I hate to say that I wish there were a couple more ingredients to make the sandwich even more savory, but I think sticking to the basics really works in favor of Free Range, so keep it up!

Finally came here! This place is only open on Sunday(farmer’s market). I believe they close at 2pm. i think they only offer street/meter parking. I waited in line for about 10 mins, but it can be a little longer than that. Luckily, we arrived just on time. Not only was it a short wait but i believe they run out of certain items, so be sure to get there at a good time. I ordered a Bacon Egg & Cheese Biscuit. It has Applewood Smoked Bacon($ 7.75), Over Easy Egg, Spicy Ketchup & Local Cheddar on a Homemade Biscuit. Can’t complain on the food, everything was on point. We also had the The Original Free Range LA Chicken Sandwich($ 11.00), which contains Tempura Fried Free Range Chicken, Fresno Chili Coleslaw, Whole Grain Honey Mustard Sauce on a Toasted Portuguese Bun. I’m not a fan of coleslaw but it was still tasty. I wanted to order the potatoes but they didn’t have any, I don’t know why? They look small but they are definitely filling. There are no outdoor seating, so yes you have to stand and eat. All worth it tho. :-)

Free Range has all the makings of a five star quick bite, cheap eats sensation. They specialize really in one thing: fried free range chicken tempura with jalapeño slaw and whole grain honey mustard dressing in a soft toasted brioche bun. Sounds absolutely fabulous and utterly delicious. And luckily for my girlfriend she was the recipient of such a wonderful sandwich. I unfortunately was not. Her chicken meat was succulent and meaty. Mine was chewy, slimy and a little rubbery. She was given an ample amount of jalapeño slaw. I was given almost none. You can not be inconsistent with quality and ingredients and hope to be regarded a true professional and worthy of success and accolades. I hold people accountable for their product and their choices. The chicken I was served should have been thrown out. When assembling the sandwiches, not one of them should go out unless they are what was promised and publicized and consistent with others. Otherwise you are cheating your customer and you are lowering yourself and your standards to fast food. Plain and simple. This is an exchange of goods people. My goods are my bills and everybody wants them. You, the seller, your product is not universally desired and you have to prove to me that I want it. This applies to everybody. I tasted the sandwich that was prepared for my girl and it was as intended to be and it was awesome but because you blundered mine I can’t say it was a fair exchange of goods. Not at all. You only got it half right. I wish I could give you two and a half stars just like I wish I could get ten of my dollars back. Strive for genius not moments of genius.
