I am a registered nurse who works for NSLIJ system. On a Sunday morning my daughter showed me her right hand which was swollen. She was unable to state what really happened. Being a nurse I realized right away there was an infection and I wanted it to be treated right away so she didn’t develop an abscess in her hand. So my husband and I decided to find a urgent care clinic that was opened on Sunday. Of course we decided to go to clinic one in Hempstead. When we arrived we received a mobile pad that we filled out as a way to expedite the process. Of course which is the reason I gave them a one. I gave them the insurance card and of course there was a co– pay of $ 30 dollars which at that instance I realized my debit card was not in my wallet. My husband realized that in a rush he also forgot his wallet and decided he was going home to get his wallet and my debit card. We lived 30 mins away from the facility. I approached the receptionist and explained what happened and that my husband will be right back. The nurse practitioner Shirley A Dingwell came out to the receptionist out in the front where I was sitting and said loudly«I guess they will just have to wait until they pay the money». How Proffesional was that. I was so astonished and couldn’t believe this was happening in front of my eyes. My child was denied treatment because of a $ 30 co– pay. Of course they had my insurance card. Well we sat there while everyone came in and got treated and left. No one approached us and even verbalized anything to us as for the cause of the delay. As a Proffesional she didn’t even look at my daughter hand to know whether she was having an anaphylactic shock or whether it’s a emergent situation. I guess in that case I would have to call 911 for my child to be treated because of $ 30. Finally my husband arrived after an hour and we paid the $ 30. At that point I really didn’t want my daughter to be seen but because I had already given them my insurance card and all my info I decided to have my daughter seen. Of course we went in and she didn’t even introduce herself. I of course voiced my opinion to her which she stated that they do it that way because patient have not being paying. I explained to her that she had my insurance card which she will be billing my insurance. This was not self pay. She could also looked at my child hand to make sure it’s not an emergent situation and could have also explained the cause of delay rather than treating us as if we insignificant. I will surely not go back there or recommend anyone to go there. Very rude and unprofessional. So for Clinic One. I give it a one.
