This place is nothing special but I will say that the pug décor is ONPOINT. I mean, I was expecting like live pugs to be walking around when I heard about«the pug bar.» In reality it’s like a million pictures of people’s pugs and then a few statues. The menu has something for everyone though and the staff was friendly andddd there were plenty of seats at the bar and parking so all in all, solid night. I could also hear myself think and could hear my friends talk which seems to be a rarity in bars these days so overall, not toooo shabby.

So cute and charming with all the pugs looking at you. I believe you could bring your own pugs pic and they will put it on the wall! Feels homey Great pub food. I got the Reuben – awesome. All the right flavors. Sandwiches are definitely their thing I also had buffalo chicken wrap the next day I visited and that was ok. Stay true to the classics on the menu and you won’t be disappointed. Definite lunch rush.

This review is dedicated to the waffle fries. These may be the best waffle fries I’ve ever had. I would not classify myself as a fry expert, but in my expert opinion. these waffle fries are top notch. Manners went out the window– instead of politely asking«are you going to finish those» I just reached in and stole a handful of my girlfriend’s waffle fries. Luckily she is still my girlfriend, because she too was all about the delicious waffle fries and wasn’t too thrilled I stole some. I realize this review says waffle fries way too many times, but you can never get enough of the Corner Pug’s waffle fries. Waffle fries!

Great pub food along with great service have already been back twice in one week, all the salads are freshly made and the homemade kettle chips are addictive

Very meh. If someone recommends going here, look elsewhere. I’m sure this place was great, once upon a time… but it’s not the case anymore. Prices are fine, food is very Sysco frozen meh, nothing special to offer… why go here? West Hartford has many great places to go… even dive bars.

I struggled between 2 and 3 stars for this review. Let me start by saying I’ve been here a few times over the years, and I love the atmosphere. And for the most part in the past I’ve had pretty decent meals here. That wasn’t the case tonight. I ordered the mac n cheese entrée for takeout. I picked up the order, got home and dug in. After my first bite I was so disappointed. This was thee worse mac n cheese I’ve ever had. It was so bland, no flavor and the noodles were a bit hard. I tried to mix some of the noodles into the melted cheese at the bottom of the container thinking that would make it a little better. However that failed as well. I ate the side salad and bread that came along with the order and ended up dumping the mac not cheese. This experience won’t stop me from returning as I stated before I do enjoy it here. And have enjoyed their meals. I just won’t be ordering the mac n cheese.

I’ve been to the Pug. Both for leisure and business. I enjoy the place. food is good, people are down to earth and passable, not like most stuck up servers in more upscale places. I can recommend the soups and the Pug salad, The specials are always interestingly creative and to the season. The dogs give me a «Kan I Have some of those nachos“look.but they are adorable when you read the pic. That’s enough… I walked in hungry. walked out, licking my lips clean.

I’ve been to the Corner Pug a handful of times because my girlfriend is absolutely obsessed. As a pug owner I wish I loved this place too because the décor alone is enough to draw you in. Pictures of pugs as far as the eye can see never gets old. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said about the food. Let’s start with the good: The service here, at least in my limited experience, has always been quite good. Friendly and attentive, I feel like a regular when I walk in. As I mentioned earlier, the ambiance at the Corner Pug is excellent. There’s a homey vibe, which is very inviting. I think the food menu plays off of this theme as well, offering a variety of comfort foods(meatloaf, chicken pot pie) as well as your standard bar food fixins. As far as the food goes there’s two major crowd pleasers, the mac n cheese and the waffle fries. The mac n cheese comes in a hearty portion and is very rich and creamy. If you’re a cheese lover like the Mrs. is then it’s a must order. The waffle fries are the standard side you’d get with most of the menu offerings and is solid enough that I haven’t deviated from it. Quite honestly though, I’ve had better waffle fries at chick-fil-a. Nothing to rave about. I’ve heard good things about the French onion soup as well but that’s out of my wheelhouse. Perhaps it’s my own fault for ordering things like ribs and pulled pork from the Corner Pug as opposed to burgers, chicken fingers, and quesadillas, but I’ve never had a satisfying meal from here. Simply put, the food is bland and uninspired for the most part. My latest outing was a real dud and ultimately inspired this review. My food came out cold and tasted stale, particularly the fries. It was almost as if they had just tossed my plate in the microwave for a minute and brought it out to me. It’s a real bummer too because I really want to like this place. The staff is friendly, the ambience is great and the location is excellent. Decent prices and pugs galore are icing on the cake. Unfortunately, the cake itself is something I don’t see myself trying again. Especially in a city with as much good food to offer as Hartford.

I came here with Joe B. and Thien N. on a Tuesday night after 8:30pm. It wasn’t too crowded, and we easily scored a booth — surrounded by adorable pugs. The beer menu has about 10 unique beers on draft, so you’re going to find one or two to try. The menu is vast, and it was hard to choose! I decided to go for the fish n’ chips and go classic. The fish portion was definitely big, though I felt it was a little too breaded. I also wish there had a few more«chips» because waffle fries are the best. Still, it really hit the spot, and I look forward to trying more items on the menu. Chill feel and particularly wonderful if you love pugs.

The pug is probably the closest thing to my local pub. I find that its the gathering spot for me and my sister since it sits right in between West Hartford and Newington. Theres always a good beer on tap and the service considers us regulars at this point. The food is pretty good, I find myself getting the chicken quesadilla every time and it always manages to hit the spot. My sisters pug(Ellsworth) is also a celebrity here; he has his picture proudly displayed next to the bar. The parking can be pretty difficult here during peak times but i’ve never had too much of a problem. One day i’m hoping to take the busway there to have a few pints!

I came to the Corner Pug with optimistic expectations, especially about the mac and cheese. Suffice it to say, I came away extremely disappointed. I started with an order of the mac and cheese, and it seriously could have been straight out of an Easy Mac box. The cheese sauce had the exact same taste and powdery texture as you would find in Easy Mac, and the only difference was the rigatoni pasta and the fact there were a few bread crumbs sprinkled on top. For my main course I had the chicken marsala over linguini which was fair. I just know what marsala sauce is supposed to taste like and this was a unique version. As for the service, it took a little longer than I’d like to get served bread and for the main courses to come out, but I’ll let that one pass.

Lunch with wife at the Corner Pug on Saturday. It’s busy in there but we are seated and served quickly. Actually it seemed too quick like we were being rushed. Regardless, we both order French onion soup. My wife orders a standard burger with fries. I order a Reuben with fries. The soups are served quickly. They are not good(we’ve had better here). Not many onions. Tastes like a whole bunch of salt was mistakenly dumped in the mix. Oh well. My wife’s burger and fries were just ho-hum. The meat was overcooked and dry. Fries were not crispy. Disappointing to say the least. Especially at the prices charged. Same deal with the fries that came with my reuben. Disappointing. However, my reuben was delish. Toasted perfectly(not soggy at all). Just the right amount of dressing. Meat was tender with no «chewy» spots. I liked it. Continuing, the soup bowls have been removed when we finished the soup and my sandwich plate is removed too but my wife is still eating and the waiter asks if we want anything else(we don’t). The check is left with the words«no rush». Even with those words, the bottom line is we felt rushed. I hate that so, the combo of ho-hum food and the rushed-felt feeling equaled a 15% tip and we promptly left. Our previous visits here have typically been in the(4) star-ish range. This visit, I reluctantly assign a(3). I hope you have a better experience than this one was.

I am not crazy about the pug. I had fish and chips here once and felt awful and smelled like grease after. We sat at the bar, they need to do a better job with the ventilation from the fryer. I’ve had a sit down meal here with some friends and we had good service and I had a prime rib which they did a good job with. If you like a pub, it certainly fits the bill. No frills but not my first choice either.

Okay, so I wasn’t overly impressed with my dinner, but overall it was a really nice night. The place has a old pub like feeling, and in a truly authentic sense. The waitress was really nice, the beer and drink lists had some great options, the coffee cocktails we had after dinner were good, and I could totally see myself hanging out there fairly often for a nice relaxed night if I was more local. Probably the highlight of what we ordered was the Cobb Salad, which was very good and well priced. The calamari was pretty good, leaving my pot roast as the low light of the evening. Will I be back? Oh most definitely. I love pub fair, and this place seems to have a lot of promise. Definitely an overall more mature and chill crowd(yes, that means older for the most part), so if you’re looking for a loud or drunken time, the Corner Pug probably isn’t for you.

Following a typical FRYDAY at work the Corner Pug was a perfect prescription. A Flying Jenny off the tap while we waited, briefly. Well seated and courteous staff. Being early Fall, the Pug featured an Oktober Feast menu onto of the usual pub fare. Oh the choices! Wait, Spaten Oktober Fest on tap?! «Yes, I’ll start with that. Our group of 4, enjoyed a variety, a Schnitzel, BBQ bacon burger, Calamari, Pub Crispy Chicken, & a gluten free turkey burger. There’s no walking away from the Pug hungry or thirsty.

Has a nice ambience and friendly staff. The place is clean and well-maintained. The Irish Nachos($ 7 for a half, $ 12 for a full) are delicious. The French Dip($ 10) is not that good, so skip it for one of the hundred other menu items. The quesadilla($ 10) was great! The beer selection is decent, but I wish the prices were better. Overall, this is a quality place and worth it, especially if you have a Groupon.

The Pug is a favorite spot of ours, after discovering it about a year ago we were hooked! The food at the Pug is consistently good, I have never been disappointed with it or the service. During one of our stops a kitchen worker had accidentally thrown some of our leftovers away when we had asked that they be boxed up. Our waiter had them whip up a new serving of our order to take home! I was thrilled! We always order the Irish Nachos. They are hands down our favorite nachos, trumping all other varieties(Mexican included) and restaurants. Every bite is delicious and we have to stop ourselves from devouring the whole plate before our meals arrive. They make for great leftovers when heated in the oven at home. While I have heard many good things about the entire menu, I religiously order the pug mac n cheese every visit. I can’t help it! It takes the award for all time favorite mac n cheese and even though I’ve crafted a very good imitation of it at home, I’ll keep going back for more. It NEVER disappoints! Maybe one day I’ll break the pattern and try some of their delicious looking fish n chips… A has tried a variety of dishes(a lot of great sandwiches) from the menu and he has always enjoyed his meals. We continue to leave each visit stuffed and satisfied with some great leftovers. The décor gives us a laugh, there’s literally pugs everywhere! Amazingly we’ve never had to wait too long for a seat, and the service is always great. The Pug earns it’s 5 stars and a special place on our list! –K

I always enjoy going to The Pug. It’s dependable, comfortable and relaxing. There’s usually not too long of a wait, and it’s in a fairly convenient location. Although It’s mostly typical Irish pub fare, expect to enjoy generous portions of traditional favorites(shepherd’s pie, Yankee pot roast, fish-and-chips) amid comfy bar seating and high-backed booths. Start off with a mug of the kettle-made baked french onion soup, it’s always a comforting delight. Their steamed mussels in white wine is a good portion for two, and the irish nachos are always a hit(especially with the beef, beer, and sausage chili) The reuben is legit, and all sandwiches come with pug cross cut fries(waffle fries). The roasted vegetable plate is always a good go-to if I’m trying to keep it on the lighter side, yet have something hearty and felling. I usually add grilled chicken breast to round out the meal. But honestly, when I’m here, I’m not usually thinking healthy. And as such, I indulge my fatter-ego with their ever-popular fish n’ chips, chicken pot pie, and shepherd’s pie. Good comfort food, done right. Friendly atmosphere, casual vibes, and dependable service — expect a good time if you’re unsure of where to go for dinner. During the week they have daily lunch specials as well as evening offerings like prime rib night on Monday and Tuesday! Lunch Hours: Mon-Sat, 11:00−3pm Dinner Hours: Sunday, 11am-10pm Mon-Wed, 3−10pm Thurs-Sat: 3−11pm Sunday Hours: Brunch: 11am-3pm

Been here a few times before, had dinner food last couple times. Today I came in for brunch with my GF and it was really good. The specials were all fairly priced and came with a drink. I got the buttermilk pancakes and she got the 2 egg special. Both looked just as good as they tasted. We sat at the bar, bar tender is really nice and friendly. I’d recommend coming here, I know I’ll be back again.
