La Rancherita

Finally had a chance to check this place out after almost a year of wanting to go. I cannot say it lived up to Unilocal’s hype. The food was OK.
We started with complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa was decent, far better than store brand but still didn’t pack any really interesting flavor. The chips were not good. They tasted a bit like fried paper and had just an odd mild chalky grit to them. They also lacked adequate seasoning and residual oil.
As for my main dish, I ordered Chicken Enchiladas with rice and refried beans. The beans and rice were excellent together. The beans had a complex garlicky flavor profile was was nicely absorbed by the short grain yellow rice. The rice was perfectly cooked and had a well developed savoury flavor.
The enchiladas came topped with lettuce and avocado, neither of which shown with freshness. In fact, the avocados has some significant visible oxidation signs (dark spots.) The enchiladas themselves were really just alright. The chicken inside was just a but dry and lack a complex flavor profile. This could have been enhanced with additional chiles, seasoning, and aromatics within the enchiladas themselves. I believe the fat content of the enchiladas was to low, likely because of an off-​balanced ratio of thigh to breast.
This place was OK for me. I won’t seek out another meal here, but I wouldn’t turn down an offer to come back if the opportunity presented itself. Dona Linda, to the west of town, has significantly better Mexican food based upon the limited experience I’ve had with both. Check them out before to seek out La Rancherita.

No frills, just solid, delicious Mexican food!
Pozole de pollo was wonderful! Nothing better than a huge bowl of chicken stew on a cold day, plus the tostadas that it came with were also perfectly crunchy and savory. My meal was $ 11, and it was a big portion.
All of the vegetables were fresh, and the chips were also freshly made. This place is a gem!

Muy rica la comida, me sorprendio que tienen de tomar Fanta, barrilito. Coca mexicana entre todas bebidas. La comida esta muy bien servida, hablan español y tiene buen sabor.

El día de hoy tuve la fortuna de comer una torta cubana en la rancherita west chester y me recordó mi MÉXICO que delicia!
