Your replacement, Red Light, is the worst restaurant I’ve ever been to in DC. I wish you were still here.

My overall experience was fantastic. The server was so pleasant and helpful. The chef who helped develop the menu was so nice and informative. She told me they make everything in house. The chicken salad sandwich with roasted red peppers was delicious. The orzo pasta salad was a tasty side that I ordered with it. Next time I will order coffee and dessert!

This place is a nice little bar. At first I was a little thrown off because the place seemed a bit small and, quite frankly, sparse in its décor. I was trying to figure out exactly what they were going for and the vibe isn’t the best for doing work(like a good café) because it is a little cramped. The food and coffee, which is obviously the most important part, was quite good. I like their concept of tasting plates, which allows you to get two or three of their(very good) salads or pastas. They also have a nice selection of sandwiches. The espresso was bellissimo! Probably the best espresso I’ve had in a long time. It lacked the upfront bitterness that most espressos have. For all those who don’t get what this place is, I think it’s because they haven’t been to Bari(or Italy in general) where the bars are a hodgepodge of meeting places, coffee places, restaurants, bars and bakery. Who knows? Who cares? They have good stuff.

My husband and I were happy to find a warm, quiet place for a night cap after dinner. We were there at 8:30 on a Saturday night and it was empty except for 1 other table. We each got a decaf Americano and I got the crème brûlée, my husband the flourless chocolate cake. Both were good-not the best we’ve ever had but also not bad. The service was friendly and prompt. Some others came and went but it never got packed. I wish them well but it’s also nice to find a place to talk that’s not crowded in this area.

I’m not really sure what this place is. Before it opened I swear I saw a sign saying it was going to be a bakery, which I thought would be fantastic idea since there are so many restaurants nearby, it would be a great place to stop in for some fresh desserts. But they only have 2 – 3 desserts, total. They have a large counter of pre-made dishes, like roasted chicken and quiche. I guess people get that for take out? With all the new places around, I’m not sure why someone would go to a place that doesn’t make the food fresh, when you order it. They have coffee and wine and a nice atmosphere… but I guess I just don’t get this place. This neighborhood is crying for a dessert bar… but this place isn’t it.

Yikes! Went in to the place with my Girlfriend and thinking from the outside it looks hip and inviting. Inside was pretty and great detail! What turned us off completely was the staff… A african American girl… just stared… not hello… hi how are you… finally being social asked how she was and how her day was… got… fine do you know what you want? Ordered a piece of keshish pastry and then she said we get a side with it… didn’t tell it was $ 13 for a small piece and less then a hand full of Rice… Way over priced for cafeteria food. After paying I ask what her wifi code was since my gf and I were going to do some work while we have coffee and a snack. 10 min later she comes by like its a cafeteria saying were shutting off the Wifi in 10 min. WOW… Worst ever in DC and Im no complainer…

Stopped in today for lunch and a cup of coffee. Inside space is small but cozy. It was cloudy and rained in the morning so I chose to avoid the patio which looks like an awesome place to have a coffee/wine and people watch. My lunch choice included two salads, the pesto ravioli, or raviolette as called by Bar Di Bari, and the tarragon chicken salad. Both were good and promptly service but without any attention to detail whatsoever. The salads were served without any bed of lettuce, bread, or even a cracker, on a large round white plate making the decent service size seem small. I don’t think I would run back for lunch or dinner but my try it again for a coffee and some people watching.

The idea is there but food execution is poor. Menu is bizarre, not very European and sandwich was very bland. Nothing really stood out. Wifi and outdoor is great though. Bottom line is I would come for coffee and ambiance but pick someplace else for a meal. There are literally 20 places in 3 blocks that are very good.

Somehow Bar Di Bari seems to have fallen under the radar, making it a great place to be able to grab a table outside and people watch on a nice night. They have a small but quality selection of wines by the glass that are all really well priced. My first time there, Chris and I split a cheese and meat plate. Everything on there was very good, if not particularly out of the ordinary, and the portion was quite generous, easily enough for two people to share as a light dinner. I also went for lunch one day during the shutdown and had the spinach and onion quiche, which i really enjoyed. The crust was nice and flaky, the filling light and fluffy, and it was overall really satisfying. I appreciate that instead of coming with the usual mixed greens, you get to pick any antipasti as a side. I had the green bean salad with caramelized onions, which I really enjoyed. The quiche, side, and a glass of wine came to under $ 20, which is a steal for the neighborhood.

Cute place! Delicious well-priced coffee with a cute atmosphere and patio. Went there to do schoolwork and have lunch; the salads are all great and different. Service was nice; the happy hour specials look great too. Nice casual addition to the neighborhood.

***3.5*** Stopped by here on a Friday night with a group of 6 after a long dinner. Weather was gorgeous and we were looking for a low key quiet place with outdoor seating to grab a drink. This place had a cute outside patio and seemed like just the atmosphere that we were looking for to catch up with old friends and actually be able to hear ourselves talk. We got a round of wine and beer and our total tab was $ 60. Pretty decent for the area and what we ordered. Our server was really sweet aside from a tiny mishap when he accused my friend of ordering a white wine, when he definitely ordered a red. The waiter later came by when he realized his mistake and apologized and offered to bring us out some bread. It took a little bit of time to get our check but overall the experience was A-OK!

Haven’t spent too much time here, but I stopped in yesterday as my stomach was growling; I needed a little snack. The interior is cute. Definitely would be a great place to hang out and have an espresso. I was hungry though, so I choose to go with something called a «Chicken Hand Pie.» To go. It was very bad. Mostly tasteless, extremely greasy and as I tried to grab it and eat it, it fell apart. Hand pie, indeed. Also I got it heated up so burned the roof of my mouth. While the restaurant is not strictly to blame for this, ATTENTIONMUSTBEPAID.

I’d like to give bar Di Bari 2.5 stars, but mostly for the ambience, the idea, and the location. And for the actual execution, I’d give it 2 stars. Dear bar Di Bari owner, there are literally dozens of restaurants that have just opened up in a ten block radius from your place. Yet you hire a pregnant server who doesn’t know your menu. Yet you serve cold and stale quiche. Yet you fall so far sub par when it comes to spicing up the menu. Bari and Italy in general is all about the fresh brioche, the flaky croissant, the delicious bread, the scrumptious coffee. Capitalize on that! Be that place that prides itself on having fresh fresh fresh pastries and breads. You’re in an awesome location, with an awesome name, and awesome idea. Polish it a bit, and you’ll have a three hour waiting list. I’d love to come back here, and when I do, I hope I’m wowed.

Like Christopher C. said, the espresso drinks itself could be the reason to visit Bar Di Bari. $ 3 for cappuccino! I guess you can do takeout but sit and relax with your coffee, beer/wine with some snack. Servers don’t rush you out. The cheese plate was really good. If you like cheese, just get it. It comes with slices of awesome baguette(yes, they get refilled if you need more). Beers are reasonably priced($ 5-$ 7) but the price tag for wines seem to be a bit high.(over $ 10 for most). PS: There are outdoor tables. Come by and hang out when it’s nice outside.

Fairly generic coffee shop not offering anything special in terms of either atmosphere or items available, but they have a surprisingly huge staff to keep you busy.

3.75 Stars Bar di Bari occupies a great corner location on 14th street and is the kind of bar you might find in Italy that serves coffee and pastries in addition to light fare, wine and beer. The bar itself is kind of small, only four seats, and it seems like they didn’t really expect anyone to sit there since it was cluttered with odds and ends. The interior has clean lines, with nice high ceilings a few bistro tables, and of course, free wi-fi. They use Swing coffee and Simonelli equipment to make their espresso beverages and at $ 3.75 for a latte, they’re a bargain. There are three draft beer lines, but only one(Star Hill IPA) was working when I visited. A short wine list consisting of 16 wines by the glass, mostly Italian and French. In addition to pastries, they also serve antipastas, charcuterie, and sandwiches. A great place to grab a coffee if you’re in the neighborhood, or a glass of wine after work.

Went at lunch last Saturday. Everything was wrong. Ordered Italian hoagie, my date the quiche. Came back, no hoagie today. OK, how about he meatballs. Came back, nope, don’t have the meatballs today. OK, the chicken turnover. Nope, after going inside she said they don’t have that either. Really?! I mean I know it was the first day but out of three things and the wait person didn’t know and had to go back and forth each time. OK, they had the steak so now we’re set. Nope, wait she comes back to tell us they don’t have iced tea. That is a bit much even for the first day. My date’s quiche came, small portion but yummy. She finished her entire meal and waited ten minutes more for my food to even arrive! When it did, it was good too. But the whole process marred the visit. I hope the service gets better and will try again after a few weeks.

I chuckle every time I say the name of this place. Heehee… Aside from the name, this place is really cute! From the décor, setup, to the sweetener packets! I know it’s really silly, but you don’t see sweetener packets coming in little tubes much around DC, so I’m really digging that they’re doing something different. Got an iced coffee and a regular drip coffee on my first visit. The price was pretty reasonable — $ 4.18 for both. The coffee is decent, a little more acidic than I like but much less so than Peregrine’s. All the baked goods and salads looked really good in the display case. Looking forward to trying a few of them in the coming days. I introduced myself to Alexandria and she was really nice. They only have in-store printed menus for now, but I was told to-go menus should be available by the end of the week.
