I got the chicken nachos which were good the taste was good however the beans were at the very bottom and the nachos were very soggy other than that it was OK.

The food is average. Not bad, but not good enough to go back while they’re charging for chips and salsa :(

When this placed first opened I was blown away at the flavor. The carne asada is excellent and has a very unique taste. I really enjoyed there super quesadillas as well. Things have changed for me. I heard several co workers complaining about the grease and not feeling well after eating there. I proudly defended my new place assuring them it had to be a one time thing. But the the last few times I have been there it has gotten progressively worse. Maybe in the beginning they were slower and had time to pay more attention to the quality. My last lunch this week was a super quesadilla and with no exaggeration it was sitting in a quarter inch of straight grease. I would have returned it if I worked closer. I won’t be going back. There are better spots.

Hello, my name is Nicholas and this is my review for Tortilleria El Molino They have a variety of different Mexican dishes as with many other Mexican restaurants offering sopes, papusas, tamale, and other options. The menu is quite standard in comparison with various Mexican restaurants. I ordered the asada burrito because steak is my favorite. Upon receiving my meal it looked fairly appetizing, it’s a burrito! Who doesn’t love burritos! Anyways, I apologize for digressing, the burrito wasn’t hot, rather warm which was upsetting but I continued with my first bite. The first bite tasted as if I had bitten into a large chunk of cheddar cheese(considering they use this inside their burrito). The cheese had a strong overwhelming flavor that masked the other ingredients such as guacamole(which I wish they had added a little bit more) and the rice and beans. The beans and rice were average, nothing to be excited about. As for the meat I was expecting the burrito to have cut strips of steak considering the description on the menu underneath the asada said«grilled steak». It was disappointing to see my «steak» all crumbled up as if it were ground beef. As for the flavor, the meat lacked the char grilled flavor and was really salty. Some things they did incorrectly, I had requested no sour cream on my burrito and to my astonishment there was sour cream considering that my sibling was with me and he had ordered his burrito without sour cream also.(They forgot to remove the sour cream in his burrito too) Some positives: Their chips and salsa are really good. The tortillas are made fresh daily from their main restaurant and are delivered to this restaurant to be used in making their dishes. The salsa was really good, and fresh flavor, with just the right amount of heat for your pallet. *disclaimer chips and salsa are $ 1 for a small bag which is okay considering most restaurants serve it free. The food was not what I expected compared to many of the Mexican restaurants that I’ve been to but I do not think I will come back. Not my kind of restaurant but to others, to each their own. Thank you

Love. Love. LOVE! This place has DELICIOUS soft tacos, and I especially love the tacos dorados(crispy tacos) which are filled with beef and potato — reminds me of the tacos my friend’s dad makes at house parties. SO good! They also have delicious pupusas(I recommend the chicharrones or mixed). My mom has had the quesadilla which is massive, and my husband has also tried the burritos. We weren’t too excited about the burritos or the chicken, so because of that I don’t give them five stars, but otherwise everything else has been good. They charge for chips, unlike some other taquerias which provide chips for free. Also, they close at 8PM, so it’s not a good late-night spot. Otherwise though, if you’re going here for lunch or an earlier dinner, this place is fantastic. Plenty of parking, too.

Hubby and I like to think of ourselves as food snobs. Mexican food especially! There was no good place in Walnut Creek to us. We were so disappointed after moving here to try and fail at finding satisfying Mexican food. Then– a miracle in the form of El Molino. This place is great and so clean!!! Reminds me of our favorite Mexican food shop in Sonoma County(where we moved from). Can’t get enough of their green salsa and homeade chips! Winners!

Came here yesterday and ordered the Carnitas burrito. Wow this was one of the best burritos I have had in a really long time. It was huge, but flavorful and everything you want in a burrito. Much more authentic than any other place I have been to around here. As far as the ambiance, this is your typical small taqueria joint, which I really love. It’s hard to find places like this anymore. I have been to their other location and have always liked it but this time I really loved it! Will go back again.

Not so bad, not so bad :) I read a few reviews and got se advice awhile back from Harvey who said the El Molino in Concord was the better of the two, but we were exhausted and this place was closer. This location is in a large plaza with a grocery store and a Panda Express. The place itself is fairly non descript and not an overabundance of «theme» decoration. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had a bunch of things that I hadn’t had in awhile like buche sopes, pupusas, and carnitas taco. Fiancé had two crispy tacos. Food was much better than I expected! I’ve since lowered my Mex standards since moving up to this area, but even still the food was good. I especially liked the chips and the carnitas was well prepared too. Minus one star on the way they prepared the tortillas on the taco and being a little stingy on the salsa. Oh the buche was good too. Tasted like thick piggy skin :) This place was better in my opinion than the much talked about Los Pericos in Dbulin. I’ll try the concord one soon.

Pretty good and quick Mexican fare although not as good as their first location off of Monument Blvd. The Monument Blvd. location is worth the drive if you have the time as all of the meat is made there and shipped to the Walnut Creek location. For some reason the food just tastes better at the Monument location(and I think the prices might be a bit cheaper but I could be wrong). I’ve had the Asada, Pastor, Carnitas, and the chicken at this location. All of which were delicious. The pastor was a little greasy for my taste but the flavor was there. This place also has some of the best tortillas in the area which are again hand made at the Monument location. This place also has chicharones which is rare in this area for some reason. For $ 6.55 you get a pretty large burrito loaded with meat, guacamole, sour cream, cheese, rice, and beans. Good value. Their street tacos are $ 2.55 each which I think is pretty expensive for street tacos especially with the El Rancho taco truck nearby offering arguably better tacos for around half the price. Overall good, quick, authentic Mexican food for a reasonable price.

Love this place! Great location with plenty of parking near Denica’s. The carnitas plate with rice and beans is only $ 5.99 and now it even comes with a drink! So fresh and so authentic!

Everything is wonderful here. I love the burrito, the salsa and chips are amazing, and to my surprise, they have pupusas here which are tasty! Now I have a place near by to get pupusas without driving all the way to BART Concord. The only reason it doesn’t get a full star is because this place does not give out free salsa and chips. They charge. And that, the guy misheard my order.

I’ve been here a few times and like the food. The beef has a good flavor(they add onions) I usually get a taco salad no rice(they always forget) the salad comes in a large taco shell it tastes like a Chinese chip. Odd but good. It’s good for lunch as the atmosphere is like a small café tile floors and wood tables with chairs that make noise when you pull or push them out. you understand.

So we decided to buy the $ 1 chips, wow… they are good. It includes two small things of salsa, but we definitely needed more at .25 each. The only thing we haven’t been crazy about was the bean papusa, we should have ordered the papusa with cheese because it needed that extra oomph! Still loving the dorado/crispy tacos yum! Next time we are planning on buying the tortillas. The only thing they are missing on the menu is churros!

Good Mexican food. The tamales and tacos are ok, but most people who eat here order the chicken taco salad. It comes in a fried shell, lined with refried beans and rice. On top of the layer of lettuce is your choice of meat, guacamole, tomatoes, cilantro, and cheese. It comes with salsa and sour cream on the side. While I enjoyed the items that made up the salad, the shell was my least favorite part. It was not flaky and less like a chip or tortilla and more like a tasteless shell. Overall, the counter service was quick and the food was ok. I would stick with the tacos next time.

Always consistently good. Best in the area. Had the carnitas torta today. Great bread and taste but lacked in meat. Only thing that kept them from 5 stars.

This is nice clean second location, they do not offer as much variety as the main location in concord monument blvd. But what they offer is delicious love the tacos de lengua they are nice and lean and not fatty! You must try the popusa revuelta it is good

This place makes authentic Mexican food. I have had their burrito, taco salad and pupusa. I recommend getting the pupusa. The choices for the pupusa is cheese or pork and cheese. Their meats are a little too salty. If you come later at night they may run out of the tamales. Oddly enough there is no salsa bar or hot sauce on the tables. They do you have tortilla chips that you can buy. They have fast service and relatively cheap prices.

«Hello — my name is Terri and I am a cheeseaholic.» «I feel the need… the need… for CHEESE!» The above sentences either horrified you, or made you my new BFF. To my besties, you know the struggle is real — my life will end if I don’t eat nachos and a quesadilla RIGHTNOW! American-Mexican food is especially good for killing that cheesy urge, when something like pizza just won’t cut it. And it was with this primal longing that BF and I wandered into this second El Molino location, to get our cheese on! Chicken nachos and a carnitas quesadilla, coming right up! As we sipped our Mexican cokes during out short wait and watched other tables’ food go by, it only made us happier — the plates looked epic, and we LOVE the other location so why would this be any different? Trust me — it’s different. The quesadillas was bananas, very cheesy, grilled well, and though the carnitas inside were a touch dry the flavor more than made up for it. Mission accomplished. Cheese coma commencing. The nachos though… Lettuce is not invited to my nacho party. Nachos are not a health food, and any effort put in to make them healthier by adding lettuce is folly. It doesn’t work on ANY level — a textural component? Nope, crispy chips, gooey cheese, juicy chicken and chunky salsa should be more than sufficient. Temperature contrast perhaps? Umm no, leave that job to the salsa and sour cream. All shredded iceberg lettuce does when you put it on a steaming pile of nachos is turn into sadness and angst. The nachos were also not improved by having very little cheese — what was there seemed to be shredded as opposed to a well-made cheese sauce. Refried beans were the main topping component, which is disappointing. Chips withered under the dreary weight of beans is nacho best recipe!(I’m funny.) The joint was jumpin’ so there appear to be other tasty options available. A good quesadilla isn’t tough to find though, and their main location on Monument overall puts them to shame. They’re lucky to have that same name up on their sign. Monument-style Mexican in a Walnut Creek strip mall — thanks for the lettuce Walnut Creek, you lame snoozer you. I’m out, I’ll catch you down on Monument next time.

I’ve been to this new location of Tortilleria El Molino twice now and I can categorically say it doesn’t come close to matching the original store on Monument. I had their super quesadilla with carnitas yesterday and I don’t know what the fuck that pig ever did to them that they had to cook every bit of life out of it… As a matter of fact, I’m not sure if it was carnitas or simply a bunch of wood shavings. The *only* reason I’m giving these guys 2 stars is my wife seems to actually enjoy their chicken tacos… God only knows why, but I suppose that gives them some redeeming quality. I think I might try them once more and then, depending on experience, never again.
