My fiancé and I came here a couple weeks back, and we were completely disappointed. Not sure what happened to the food here — we did notice the menu changed with a lot of new vegan type items. Here’s a suggestion. you should probably refocus on your once amazing pub food. My fiancé ordered a(very expensive) Shepard’s pie, and I kid you not — made with instant mashed potatoes. I ate too much of that crap as a kid to know exactly when it’s being used. The most flavorless, dry, and just unacceptable Shepard’s pie ever. It’s pretty insulting to be charged $ 13 for instant potatoes, canned vegetables and some flavorless beef. My $ 15 fish and chips looked like a fish fillet from McDonald’s, complete with the perfectly square«just out of the freezer» look. This used to be one of my(very Irish) girls favorite spots, but it was just terrible at our last visit. One of those experiences that was so bad, there’s just no trying again for fear of the same thing happening. If you want expensive frozen and instant food, this is your place. I gave it two stars only because it used to be awesome.

Good Irish bar, in downtown wallingford. Nice food. Fun atmosphere. Good service, can get a little crazy when busy but then that is probably a good sign. Dining warm weather they have a nice patio to use so it thins out the crowd inside. Live music on Saturday. It is what it is a no frills Irish bar.

Just randomly chose this place as we’re from Texas. Sat out on the patio which was nice… people next to us had their dog with them which is a cool option for dog owners. Was trivia night so we played and tried some local beers and ate a few different appetizers. Our waitress was very friendly, always makes my experience good… I don’t ask for much but it’s always appreciated. I’d definitely come back… perfect on a summer evening.

Love this place! Great for local and craft brews. Bar staff is friendly. Place is clean. Live music and entertainment almost every time I’ve been there. Never ate here but heard good things.

I past this place a 1,000 times. Finally, I stopped in because I heard the place was good. The service wasn’t there. The rug was worn and moldy smelling. The food was not hot and barely edible. My Guinness was warm and flat. The tables and floor were sticky. The place was gross. It’s amazing how many people have low standards when it comes to food & drink.

Stopped in for a few drinks on a Friday night with my boyfriend and another couple. We were able to grab a table and order a few drinks. There was some live music playing, which was cool. Didn’t stay very long, but it was pleasant.

Why would you come to an Irish pub for the food? Don’t get me wrong, the food is fine. I’ve had a few of the appetizers and a salad and I wasn’t displeased with any of them. But the key is to pair it with a(very affordable) beer sampler or two. Maybe three? Or is that pushing it? That’s why you go to a place like this. And that’s why you come back, and frequently. Sure, this place has a divey feel, but I love that about it. Just remember: get beer, maybe some curry fries, and you’ll be just fine.

Been here a few times after work and it totally fulfills that ‘gahhh– get me out from under these fluorescent lughts’ cure, so often needed on a friday afternoon. The place is dark, but full of character and clean. Atmosphere is very relaxed, not at all one of those joints where you go ‘to be seen,’ thank goodness. Bar staff is appropriately friendly, but, as previously mentioned, not in your face. The beer selection is impressive and varied. I’ve always found multiple options i enjoyed, and have never been made to feel like a pain when asking for a taste. Food appears to be generally scratch-made, and i’ve never been disappointed. Their soups are awesome(seriously), as well as salads, sandwiches, and entrees. Between myself and a colleague, we’ve sampled pretty much most of the menu. They also have daily specials, which i appreciate, because you really can always find something new. Prices are about average, maybe a little above, but i’m very willing to pay more for something made in-house. If you’re looking for a comfy spot with friends, coworkers, or even just a casual date, the old dublin is a solid choice.

I don’t normally hang out in Wallingford very often because I actually like to enjoy life, but when I do, there’s really only one bar that sounds out to me: The Old Dublin. Sure, from the outside, it looks like any other dreary, nondescript Irish pub. But inside? Okay, on the inside it also looks like a dreary, nondescript Irish pub. But the Old Dublin is so much more than that. For one, the bartenders are all pretty awesome. They’re just friendly enough without getting all up in your shit and I appreciate it. I’ve brought a few friends here and they’ve always interacted just enough to make a great impression, but not so much that you wish they’d just bug off. Second of all, they have a surprisingly good beer list. I believe they have something like 22 beers on tap, and quite a few of them are interesting. They have a few seasonals, some locals, and a few surprises. But here’s the kicker: for 7 bucks, you can get four 6 oz. sample glasses. That’s right. 24 ounces of delicious beer(your choices!) for 7 bucks. How are you gonna beat that? Let me answer for you: you aren’t. So put that delicious beer in your face hole and quit your cryin’. The atmosphere is pretty interesting. It seems pretty heavily local with a few younger folks coming and going. I came here with a friend one night and witnessed someone get thrown out over an argument over a softball team. It was amazing. I’d never seen people take softball so seriously, nevermind get tossed out of an Irish pub over it. I can’t really speak to the food quality, however. I have eaten the curry fries while intoxicated once or twice, and they were fine, but unremarkable. Nonetheless, you don’t come here for the food or the ambiance. You come here for the amazing beer sample specials, the friendly bartenders, and of course, the weirdos getting tossed outta the bar. If you need more than that from an Irish pub, then you and I probably aren’t gonna be friends.

Went there recently, besides the fact that they lost their amazing chef, everything else seems back to the way it was. Great beer, tasty food, nice atmosphere, and great live music!

I like The Old Dublin. Good solid food, classic Irish fare and great pub food choices. Excellent beer selection, and they know how to pour a Guinness! Comfortable place to relax and catch up with friends.

Good selection of beers, had a Guinness and a Chocolate Stout. The owner has an Irish accent, so this is actually legit ;)

The Old Dublin simply feels like home. From the couches lining the windowsill, to the friendly personalities behind the bar, it wont take long for you to feel welcome. The food here is outstanding, and surpasses your average pub fare you may have come to expect. Everything from the Irish Burger to the Bookmaker(a roast beef dish, served over rye bread with gravy and mashed potatoes) will leave you satisfied. The beer selection is great as well. Over 20 on tap, you’ll find many popular craft breweries like Blue Point, BBC, and Hooker, as well as Guinness and Smithwicks to name a few. Sorry, no Bud Light here. Every night on the weekend features live music as well, and more often than not, it’s entertaining. Big fan of the old Dublin.

This is a great place to sit down and grab a bite to eat and a pint or two to wash it down. However, if you are looking for a «hard drinking bar», this is not the place. The food is good, with some exceptional specials from time to time(their meat loaf is outstanding), though pricey. Their appetizers include curry chips(fries and curry sauce), which I effin’ love. Unfortunately, their more recent changes to the menu show a shift from Irish Pub to more generic fare. How Irish are quesadillas, really? They have a good selection of beer on tap, as well as hard cider. Its definitely not the standard mix of bud and coors. The atmosphere is casual, but cramped, especially when the place starts to fill up.

All the people complaining about how dark it is need to get a life. The lighting fits the mood of the bar. It’s supposed to be like that. Honestly, it’s not that dark! Maybe you all should open your eyes a bit. The food served here is traditional Irish pub grub. It’s very good. In fact, the only thing I’ve ever had here that was not very good was the prime rib. It was a special that night. They don’t normally do prime rib and it showed. But whatever! All the other food is great. Waitstaff is very friendly. Service is always pretty quick. I did take off one star due to how conservative they are with the alcohol. The last time I went there I ordered a Grateful Dead. Very alcoholic. About the same as a long island iced tea. Then when I ordered another the bartender said no. Limit one per person. I was liek really? Ok just bring me a jack and coke. Ok. After that I wanted a beer. THEYCUTMEOFF! They said I drank them too fast. REALLY? Well at this point I was pretty upset. The waitriss knew this and got me a beer anyway. I didn’t even drink it all because I was so mad. Other than that one thing no other complaints. So be mindful, just because its a bar/pub doesn’t mean you’re going to be able to order what you want for alcohol. Go somewhere else if you want to drink.

This is a very nice and relaxed place for Wallingford. I’ve stopped in quite a few times for some beers and some Irish Pub grub. I like the dark lighting as it gives it a relaxed atmosphere and less of a club/bar/pick up spot vibe. The service is pretty fast and fairly friendly. They have a really good selection of beer on tap and the baretenders are always willing to recommend something new and different. I like coming here as it attracts an older crowd and the usual suspects of regulars. Younger patrons generally don’t stay long as tomfoolery is definitely not tolerated here. It’s definitely a try it at least once spot in Wallingford.

I came here for the first time on a Saturday night, i had been meaning to try it for some time after reading about it on Unilocal.I took a seat at the bar and was warned there may be a bit of wait on food since they were packed and there was a party of people being waited on. The service turned out to be very friendly and fast and i didn’t find myself waiting long, They have a great selection of beer on tap all of which tasted very fresh, i had the Guinness and a few varieties of the bluepoint. I had the curry fries for an app and i really liked them, held me over just fine while i waited on my Guinness beef stew. The stew was delicious and it came with Irish brown bread that i really enjoyed as well. My girlfriend had the corned beef colcannon which she loved, which was served with mashed potatoes with chopped kale and a dill bechamel i believe. Very tasty. I really liked the ambience, as some people have stated/complained it is on the dark side but that’s exactly what i love about it. Very warm and relaxed feeling. Also the live music that was there that night was absolutely fantastic, the pair that played were very talented and they played a lot of the popular Irish songs(wild rover, whiskey in a jar etc) Glad i gave this place a chance, i will certainly be back.

Not too thrilled with this place – shame, as it is close to where we live. The service was lackluster, the food was mediocre and the place could use an updating, especially in the lighting department. I would only go here to drink – for that, it seems to be a popular watering hole.
