For a Thai restaurant I give this 4/5stars. My family has been coming here for over 15years and its one of the best around. I use to live right down the street and work across from this restaurant so I’ve been here plenty of times! The owner and her son/staff are great and always remember my favorite table and dinner preferences! The décor is nice and traditional w simple Thai influences. Its a small modest but clean restaurant placed in a plaza. The garlic chili wings are the best! they are sweet and spicy at the same time and have a great thick sticky glaze on them. I have ordered the sauce by the pint to take home and use on other items. The deluxe appetizer platter is huge and can give 2 – 4 people a nice sample of wings, spring rolls… or eat as a meal This is the place that got me hooked on Shrimp Pad Thai! I love their Sweet/Sour Salmon w pineapples and peppers, their Garlic Chili Salmon, the Half Crispy Duck Dish, Noodles, Assorted rice dishes and soups. My son likes the Thai tea and ice cream flavors. The prices are average about $ 8 – 15 an entrée. Its a nice neighborhood spot! Unfortunately this restaurant is now closed

We used to go Somsak. but with two very good Thai restaurants closer to work and home, we haven’t been here for awhile. We were over that way and stopped in for lunch. It was a slow day for Somsak and we were the only diners. I don’t think they do a booming lunch trade as there are not a lot of offices near the location. The lunch special is a very good deal. $ 7.95 brings you a main dish, a choice of soups and a spring roll. I had the Pad Thai and it was good. My wife had the Basa fish and that was very good. It tasted fresh and the sauce was flavorful and light. I would absolutely go back for lunch if I was in the area.

There are some hits and some misses in this little Thai Restaurant. One of the ‘hits’ would be the Thai Spicy Dumplings. They’re little crispy dough pockets filled with minced chicken and potatoes. The word ‘spicy’ in the title is a bit deceiving, because there’s no real heat to them, which is fine with me cause they’re good either way. My friend ordered the Thai Spring rolls which she said were pretty good. I had the Beef Massaman for my main dish. I order Massaman a lot when I go to Thai restaurants, but its usually the Chicken that I get. This place didn’t offer chicken, so I went with the beef instead. When it came to the table, I was confused. I thought that they brought me the wrong dish. Massaman is usually served in a yellowish curry sauce. This sauce was brown and thin. I saw the large chicks of beef so I asked if this was correct and the server stated that it was in fact the Massaman. I really liked the chunks of meat. They were tender and juicy and the potatoes in the dish were cooked perfectly also. My complaint would be the sauce it was cooked in. It was a thin, brown, odd tasting sauce. The spices that were used are a very weird blend. I wanted to like it, but I couldn’t convince myself. There was something in it that felt like thin pieces of wood. Some funky spicy. I couldn’t figure it out. It made the rest of the dish very off putting. It took me a long time to find something that I wanted to order also, so because of that reason, I may be out of choices there so I don’t think I’ll be back.

i really wanted to like this place after reading the good reviews. my family of 6 ate here for lunch and regretfully, we were very disappointed. their food was mediocre at best. 1. we started with the laab and squid salads. these seemed like simply minced pork and squid thrown over premade bagged iceberg lettuce salad packs. however, there were onions and cilantro in there too, so maybe it was indeed freshly chopped. these were decent but also drenched in sauce. 2. our next appetizer dish was the house special chicken wings. they were fried well and perfectly glazed with the honey sauce. best dish of the meal. 3. for my entrée, i had their special«tiger cry» beef dish, which came with a tangy dipping sauce, coconut rice, and a small cabbage salad. the«tiger cry» beef was essentially a grilled marinated beef flank steak. by itself, the beef was entirely too salty and the dipping sauce was too vinegary, while lacking any sort of flavorful spices. the coconut rice was passable. 4. my companions had pad thai and drunken noodles, both of which appeared bland. like a previous reviewer mentioned, it was so barren – simply noodles, bean sprouts, fried tofu squares, and chicken/shrimp. 5. the service was good. overall, i wish the food was as delightful as the service. they have other interesting items on their menu, particularly the seafood dishes, but based on this experience, it might be a while before we return to try them.

Great thai food. I wandered in alone one day and got a table for one– a little awkward because the wait staff stared at me sadly(I just don’t think there’s anything wrong with dining alone!) — but other than that they were great. The décor was relatively upscale. I got the Pad Kee Mao and it was delicious. Will definitely revisit, with some friends so they don’t have to pity me again.

We have been dining at Somsak for years now. I think Sample B might be the best appetizer I have ever had! I would also recommend the chicken with green curry and Exotic BBQ beef. Then for dessert, try the fried bananas and coconut ice cream. Another plus is that it is a BYOB!

$ 7 lunch specials, no complaints. It’s not the greatest thai food, but it’s cheap, quick and good for lunch. I like some pan-fried noodles every now and then, and trying to fit a decent meal in a brief lunch window can be challenging. This place meets my needs. Like with all thai places, they have an issue with naming their dishes appropriately. I’m not thai food expert, but ever thai restaurant has something different for the variations of the pad xxxx xxxx noodles. I still can’t figure it out. I often end of describing what I want, and the staff will be like«oh…this…» Quick lunch — yes; a nice dinner — no.

My daughter and her chef boyfriend come here whenever they visit us old folks. She finally talked me into going. The prices are more than reasonable. I’m no expert on Thai food but I thought everything was quite tasty. Of course I’d put peanut sauce on anything and love it. They seem to be easing off the spices, but just tell the waiter and they will bring your dish closer to Thai standards. We loved this place.

Absolutely the best kept secret in Voorhees! Very inexpensive with their best entrees starting at $ 8.95. We’ve been coming here for years. The best Thai food we’ve ever had and we visited many. Don’t let the word Thai scare you … think«lots of flavor!» We noticed most of the disappointing reviews are from those who really don’t know what to order. Pad Thai and spring rolls??? Really? So typical and boring. Somsak dishes are anything but mediocre. You CANNOT go wrong with this recommendation: Drink: Sweet Thai Iced Tea Appetizer: Mee Krob Entrée: Garlic Chili with Beef or Garlic Pepper with Pork or Thai BBQ Beef Dessert: Thai Tea Ice Cream Here’s the Somsak secret. Do not order your meals spicy. Ask the server for the spicy sauce. It’s a mix of Thai spices, chili and vinegar. They will bring it to you in a small bowl. Spoon a little in your soup and entrée. If you like it add more if you dare. It really changes the whole game of spicy and flavor! Somsak is our #1 choice for eating out simply cause you can’t beat the taste and price!

I have always loved this place for the past 15+ years, but this review is for Wednesday night’s dinner only. I went to dinner with my vegan BF, and his non-vegan father. The BF loved his fried tofu with peanut sauce to start, and the dad and I split the special of garlic chili chicken wings. The wings were fabulous. Not over fried, and different from a bar setting, but not so different that you’d be shocked. All three of us ordered our entrees with 3 chilis for spice, and it delivered! The panang curry was up to snuff, and I got my favorite, pad kee mao with beef. I only like Somsak’s version. I’ve tried it at a million other places and haven’t liked it. I don’t know if that means Somsak does it all«wrong» and the other places are doing it right, but I really do enjoy it. The dad always gets the pad see ewe, and he didn’t think he’d be able to finish, but he did! Extra bonus that it’s a BYOB. Cold beer always goes great with spicy Thai food. While this is not the best Thai food I’ve had in my life, it’s the best I’ve found in South Jersey, and I’m always happy to visit.

Somsak serves with a doubt mediocre Thai food. If you’re here against your will stick with Thai mainstays(ie. pad thai, satay, penang curry, etc.). Their spring rolls were pretty shitty. Avoid the mixed appetizer platter. If you have a choice do not go here. I have no idea how they have been in business this long, but props to them. Drive the extra 30 minutes over to Umpasri in Maple Shade. You will not be sorry.

I’ve eaten here for nearly 20 years, since I was a teenager. I pretty much always order the same thing — Tom Yum Goong soup with the exotic Thai BBQ beef and coconut + pumpkin ice cream for dessert. The food is always terrific, its perhaps my favorite restaurant anywhere. I now live across the country — the first thing I do when I visit family back in NJ is go to Somsak for dinner. I find the food to be very consistent and delicious, and I have found the staff to be consistently friendly.

Came here to eat a few times because it’s the only Asian place that’s decent around this area. Some of their dishes could use more flavoring like the fried rice and pad thai. Still, workable.

This place is a hidden gem! In all of the years that I have lived in the area, I am ashamed of myself for not coming to Somsak sooner! We went last night and started out with the spicy thai dumplings which were exquisite. My girlfriend had the eggplant with brown rice and I had the spicy garlic beef with brown rice. Wow absolutely delicious! Food was very spicy and just the right proportion. Service was on spot too. And the prices, oh the prices. Our dishes were $ 8 and $ 9 respectively. Dirt cheap for an amazing meal! For Thai food in the Voorhees area, this is your go to place.

I have been a Som Sak regular for years since the restaurant was opened 15+ years ago. Best dishes include the Thai BBQ beef or their Thai Basil. Having said that, I found that as of lately, the«spice» or «essence» is not what it once was(see my review of nearby Little Thai Kitchen). Dishes in my past few visits were a little drab and watery(I had a curry dish last two times). The two Thai eateries mentioned are the only two in the South Jersey area with real authentic Thai Cuisine. If anyone knows better, please post. I do believe in comebacks, so come on Som Sak!

We ordered the Tom Yum Ga(Chicken) and Drunken Noodles. It was a totally disappointment. Since I’m on the search for the best Drunken Noodles, I was so disappointed especially since it had high reviews. First, the soup lacked vegetables. Our soup only had chicken and mushrooms… what happened to the other vegetables??? Where’s the carrots, zucchini? The drunken noodles was the second worst I ever had. It was literally just noodle, beansprouts, and chicken. It wasn’t even tasty… there was no basil… and definitely lack other vegetables. I’m not certain how the other menu items are… but based on the two dishes that we had… I don’t think we’ll go back. So very disappointing… :(Still searching for my drunken noodles…

What a disappointment!!! I had high hopes based on other reviews, but the food really deserves 1 star if it wasn’t for the service. If you have had other Thai food to compare, this is not up to par in flavor and appearance, 1) Recommended Spring Rolls from Others(the best thing on the menu– but it really wasn’t anything special) 2) Tum Yum Soup(needs a little more lime) 3) Appetizer Sampler B(everything is fried– it’s okay but it’s standard fried wontons, curry puffs, and a shrimp rolls, etc.) 4) PADTHAI(the biggest disappointment ever!!!). = mushy/overcooked, lack of any flavor, no lime and/or any spice.. You judge a THAI rest. by the Pad Thai noodles, and this is just unacceptable. 5) And they do not have the items from their pictures– mango sticky rice does not exist. Please don’t have the pictures of the items if they do not exist. Now, the service was friendly and the restaurant was clean — but there is still no way I’m or others are going back.

I love Som Sak! It is my favorite place to get excellent Thai cuisine in the South Jersey area. I have been going here for 5+ years, and the owners and staff are wonderful! There are numerous selections for vegetarians and vegans. Tofu(fried or fresh) and/or mock duck(get it deep fried) can be added to any order. Eggs can also be removed from dishes(pad thai) to make vegan. Everything is delicious(I can’t attest to any of the meat dishes, but friends have told me they are also good). They have great lunch specials, even on Saturdays, and they allow you to pick other items not listed(ex. you can order spring rolls instead of a salad or something else). Two of my favorite dishes are the mixed veggies in the yellow curry sauce(I get fresh tofu added) and the vegetarian pad kee mao(with mock duck).

I took my wife here for our anniversary dinner. The Red Snapper was large, moist and nicely spiced. Thai art and figurines created a nice atmosphere and it wasn’t too noisy so we could talk comfortably. Prices were very reasonable. The bubbly ice tea was a surprise in that the bubbles were tapioca balls and weren’t to my taste. But they were different. The service was pleasant and efficient and the food came within 15 minutes. A good experience and a good restaurant!

3.5 stars this place is really friendly and quaint. the prices were very reasonable. we ordered the satay appetizer which was pretty good, nothing spectacular. me and my friend ordered the pad thai(of course right?) and the curry. i had better, but for a traditional dish, it will suffice. the curry, however, was on the bland side. this came to a shock to both of us, considering curries tend to have strong bold flavors. the potatoes were a bit undercooked. but overall, it was an ok dish. we had thai ice teas too. i personally don’t like that many sweet things, and this drink sure was sweet! my friend loved it tho! i went here years ago but don’t remember if i liked it that much… i gotta try the menu a bit more to get a better review.
