Had terrible sushi/sashimi here. Should have been a clear sign that we came in at the height of dinner hours on a Friday and the place was empty, but we decided to give it a try as many great places in Vienna are like that at times… we were served half frozen tuna that was not properly thawed for sashimi consumption… food needs work for sure. I will say the atmosphere and staff we’re very friendly. Great location. With all the other great sushi places around, I don’t think I’ll be eating here again anytime soon.

The sushi here is consistently tasty and top notch! It is also reasonably priced compared to other sushi restaurants in the area. One of Vienna’s best kept secrets!

We came here for dinner on a Friday because we couldn’t decide what we wanted to eat so we decided to try somewhere new. It wasn’t busy. We were greeted and promptly sat. The temperature inside was amazing and warm, especially with it being really cold outside! I ordered the chicken and vegetable tempura and was greeted with amazingly crisp and flavorful chicken, green beans, sweet potatoes, broccoli, melon, and onions. My boyfriend got the dinner box containing chicken teriyaki, California rolls, and shrimp tempura. He absolutely loved it. When we were done with our meal, our server brought us two juicy pineapple wedges for no cost. Our server was attentive and kind which only topped off and amazing meal and made this a place we will definitely have to go to again.

My sister and I stopped here for lunch. My sister had Yirasai maki and I had Big Boy roll. We shared salmon rolls. Everything was so delicious. Service was excell ent! I’m planning to be back with my husband for dinner.

They are closed for good… so sad!!! — — — — — — — — — — — — - I have eaten at this sushi restaurant for many years and under the new management I LOVEIT! They are so personable and have gotten to even know our names when we come into the restaurant. Their sushi is much better(taste, quality and quantity provided) than the other sushi restaurant on this same street. They will often provide complimentary dishes while we wait for our sushi to arrive(from edamame to soup and salad) and they have many creative maki rolls that you will find written on the chalkboard inside. I love the Submarine Maki and the Big Boy to name a few. Also, their sashimi is fresh, well cut and a good size and quality. Most places only give you thin or small cuts but here they are a nice size and are absolutely delicious every time I get them. Their spicy sauce is tasty too — so spicy salmon rolls are a staple when we go there. I don’t know why their rating is so low, perhaps it’s because most people posted from a few years ago, but you should definitely give this place a try. You won’t be disappointed.

Great service. No one else was here, but it was an extremely late lunch hour time. We got the chicken and salmon teriyaki, both good, but DEFINITELYGETTHESALMON! And we also got one roll — submarine maki(a lil sweet for me but still good) Cozy and cute

I went there for lunch and ordered the Chirashi with soup. salad, and green tea. When it was ready, some of the fish cuts were still partially frozen. Service was ok and they were nice enough to not charge for the tea and extra salad, but come on, frozen sushi?. Price wasn’t a good deal for the area either; Sushi Yoshi is right around the corner and offers twice as much sushi for the same amount I was charged here. Won’t be going back, sorry guys.

I went here last night with my mom. I had the chicken and shrimp teriyaki and she had the chicken and vegetable tempura. Both were very good. The place is small, but the service was friendly and quick. It was also very clean! We never knew it was even in Vienna before, but would definitely go back!

We wanted to like this place because it’s walking distance for us, but the sushi made us sick! It was not severe food poisoning, but something definitely did not sit well with us. It’s a tiny place with maybe 6 tables. We picked our seats and then another couple walked in. Even though the place was entirely empty, the waitress sat a couple right next to us who bumped into our table and one guy trapped us in by not pulling in his chair closer towards their table. On to the sushi — it was not that fresh and the rolls were TINY. We didn’t think it was horrible while we ate the sushi, but when we got home, we both got sick. We tried their eel, red snapper, spicy tuna rolls, and yellowtail. I eat sushi fairly often and even can make it at home, so we like to try different sushi places. I can tell you that out of all the places I’ve eaten, I’ve never seen such small portions — particularly the spicy tuna rolls. The rice was dry, like it had been sitting out for awhile. The fish didn’t taste fresh, but since there was barely any fish in the roll, it was barely noticeable. They accept credit cards, MC, Visa, and Discover, but not American Express. The price is on par with Sushi Yama, but doesn’t come anywhere close in quality. After I wrote this review, the owner personally reached out to emphasize they do use fresh ingredients and hoped we were ok. I think they deserve a second chance because he said they would take the reviews into consideration. Based on that, I would consider giving them another chance as it could have been an off day. We ate there on a late Sunday afternoon. We’re not sure what made us sick, but that was the only food we ate that day.

When I frequented this place under the old management(Ken and crew) it was hands down the best sushi in the area. I’ve given the new management a few tried but have always been underwhelmed. I’ve even gotten spoiled sushi there on two occasions. Sushi Yama is a better choice.

This is a great place to get basic sushi without a wait or reservation. Every time we’ve gone the staff has been friendly & attentive and the sushi is very good. All the uncooked fish we’ve tried has been very fresh & the Unagi is some of the best I’ve ever eaten.

Vienna is in the fortunate position to have at least 4 sushi restaurants close to each other. Yama, Sushi Yoshi, Sweet Ginger and Yirasai. We absolutely love the first three for different reasons and ate at Yirasai when they first took over from Sakana, but were not impressed. Thinking a few years of being in that location might have improved the place, we tried them again tonight. When we arrived at 6:30, the sushi chef was not there yet. It seems like he was waiting for the first customers. He is friendly enough, but nothing like the chefs at the other restaurants. First of all, they have sweet shrimp(amoebe) on their menu. I asked if that was served with the fried head, as I love that. That was possible, but then he thought I wanted the whole shrimp fried, which is not the way it is traditionally served. Then I asked about quail eggs for my tobiko and ikura(fish eggs) sashimi(which was served as sushi, btw) and the waitress assured me they had those. Well, they didn’t. Not a big deal, but I just truly feel they’ll have a hard time surviving against the much better and very close other restaurants. On their window they claim to have hibachi, but I saw no evidence of that on their menu.

Had some Shrimp tempura and vegetables here and it wasn’t bad. However something from the meal made me very sick later that night. I thought this was called Sakana. Either way, this is the correct address.

Went here with my boyfriend last night. I had the Chicken Katsu and he had the Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura. My meal was pretty decent. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for my boyfriend. Although he enjoyed his food, later that night he got sick and it appears to be because of his dinner. We are just thankful that we did not try the sushi.

I work in Vienna and there are five Japanese spots I frequent out there: KOI, Konami, Sweet Ginger, Yama and Yirasai. Of these five, Yirasai is the most laid-back and friendly of the bunch. I can be seen pulling up a stool at the bar on my lunch break and striking up a conversation with the sushi chef many a nights. The ambviance is subdued and usually very quiet. Unfortunately, the place is tucked inside a commericial strip that can be easily missed. The restaurant is facing Maple between Panera bread and a Sleepy’s mattress store. Parking is in the rear as you enter through a back entrance. As for the food, I’m big on sashimi — and the cuts here are thick, delightfully chilled and fresh with an ample supply of daikon, a cup of miso soup and iceberg salad. Every customer gets some edamame as an appetizer. They are generous and wildly creative with their maki rolls. They had a bulgogi roll at one time that was so unique! Complements to the new management that took over last month, Yirasai is indeed a hidden gem in the Tyson’s Corner area.

I can’t say this is the best sushi spot in Vienna compared to Sushi Yama or Sweet Ginger, but it serves as a great alternative. I highly suggest this place if you’re out with a small group of friends as they serve ginormous-sized sushi boats filled with a variety of sushi and sashimi that can feed the entire crew. It also pairs well with a couple sake bomb orders. =P Must-Try: The Dragon Roll topped with Sweet Potato Crunchies. OHEMGEE delicious! Service is quick and friendly. Sushi is tasty and fresh. See pics I posted.

We used to go to Yama and Sushi Yoshi before this place opened under a new ownership. Well, we’ve been here twice already and not going to any sushi places after we tried sushi at Yirasai. They are fresh, creative and so yummy. Service is fast and friendly. Highly recommend!

I just visited the location in Vienna, VA. The sashimi is great and the place is relatively inexpensive(for a sushi restaurant). I also had the opportunity to sample some excellent spicy tuna.

Update: I felt I had to amend this review since my initial post. I think this place was sold or changed hands in some way, because the quality(both of the product and the skill of the chef) is not at all what it used to be. In fact, if you order a special roll on two separate days, each time you’ll get something totally different. Sad to see a great place come undone… — — — — — — — I recently moved to the area and have been trying the nearby sushi places. For me Yirasai was the best of the three closest(Yama and Yoshi being the other 2). We sat at the bar and the chef was very generous both in his fish portions and some small complimentary plates. Their rolls are exciting and fresh and there are plenty of specialty rolls to choose from. In fact, my bf and I went 2 nights in a row we loved it so much. Definitely recommend it.
