Best southern BBQ in the Portland area by far! I cannot wait to go again. I had the ribs, baked beans, and potato salad. I stole a bite of my husband’s brisket. All of it was absolutely amazing and reminded me of true southern BBQ back home. Get there early. Because everything is made fresh everyday, they can sell out. The owner is super friendly and is very proud of his work, as he should be. Delicious!!! Would give more stars if I could.

Ate there on 1÷19÷16. I wasn’t sure where it was, not quite expecting it to be in a Shell station, but that isn’t a turn off for me. They had ample seating and their own section that made it feel a little less like you were in a gas station. The guy who was working there was named Isaiah and was very polite, punctual and professional. I overheard him saying that it was his Dad’s place and that he usually is working. I can only imagine he is just as courteous since his son was the way he is. I ordered the brisket platter. Typically when I what brisket before it is in slices without sauce. This was broken apart like Carolina BBQ. It was very good though. The sides I got were the collard greens and BBQ beans. The BBQ beans had lots of meat chunks in them and had a strong smoke flavor, it was very good. The collard greens were made from seemingly fresh greens, I was lucky enough to get the side with the ham hock in it. I highly recommend trying this place out, the food was great and the people seemed to genuinely care about the food they make. It was a little pricey, but well worth it.

The ribs were slow cooked perfectly, not dry in the slightest, nice and moist. That said, the sauce could be a bit thicker and sweeter in my opinion. Either way I am a fan I would highly recommend, this is the best BBQ I have tried in Vancouver.

By far the best BBQ in town. Simple as that. I got the pork rib sandwich and when I opened the box my eyes were as wide as could be because the portion was huge! Usually bigger portions mean less quality, but not here! Meat was tender and juicy and the sauce was phenomenal! Service was excellent, food was delicious, I will definitely be returning and recommending to anyone interested in some bbq! 5⁄5

Best bbq in the whole portland metro area. The owner and his family bring that good southern hospitality to the north west and amazing bbq. I know what you are saying good bbq in the northwest? yes. Excellent food at that. My fav is the hot links, pulled pork and you have to try the sweet potatoe pie its awesome!!! dont even bother with the over priced podnahs or even rios out in gresham or any chain place like rib city… none compare. This is the place!!!

Husband is the bbq lover and he was satisfied with the taste and portions of his brisket dinner meal. The service was wonderful and they were nice to talk to. Only found the place as we were hunting for some food and happened to see the sign under the tree leaves. Tree should be cut for beget sign vision and better customer traffic.

Stopped in here based on a conversation the Oregonian had on Facebook about good BBQ. Several people had chimed in with Daddy D’s and since it’s close by, I decided to give it a try. Now, I’m from the South, so I know good BBQ and this was just ‘ok’ in my book. The brisket was very tasty, the chicken was a bit dry and very chewy in some sections. The sides however were some of the blandest I’ve ever tasted! A little mayo, sugar and apple cider vinegar would go a long way to making the coleslaw taste a lot better and the beans could use some brown sugar, in my opinion. This is BBQ that will do in a pinch, but I’m still on the hunt for some good Southern BBQ!

This place was recommended to my husband and I by a good friend who is REALLY into southern food. This is the second time I have ate here. I’ve tried 4 different entrees, 4 different sides. Have ate in and gotten take out. It is inside the Shell gas station off Fourth Plane by the auto mall. Very close to Andreson. Don’t let the gas station stop you from at least trying this place once. I have met«Daddy D» in person. He is a very sweet nice man who is passionate about the food he makes. He is from the south & having travelled extensively in my 20’s thru the south of the United States, I have tried a lot of BBQ also. This place is so reminiscent of the BBQ I’ve tried in Mississippi. To say it is good is an understatement. If I could give the food 10 stars, I would. The baked beans take me back to childhood. The two slices of white bread too! Brisket is so good. Ribs are killin it! Pulled pork is on point. Collard greens are yum. Cole slaw is good. You have got to try it. Really. Just do it. Prices are very reasonable & the SMELL! Ugh!

This was our year of the brisket comparing one delicious morsel to another in dozens of places as we traveled the USA. So, when I discovered Daddy Ds on the internet, we wasted no time checking it out and ordering brisket, of course. Some said they were turned off by the location in a Shell station. Not me. I thought that was a great change. I really wanted to like it especially after reading a little about the history and the reviews. However, the brisket is definitely not spot-on for a southern barbecue. The brisket is served like bbq pork is served in the Carolinas not like brisket is served Texas(or even Louisiana). The brisket was also served smothered in barbecue sauce. That’s not how it’s done either. This is brisket not pork. We did ask to take the brisket back and serve it sliced. From pictures I’d seen posted, I knew they had done that before. And, they did just that. The smoker is outside and that’s where the meat is smoked. However, we noticed that three crockpots sat on the counter. Please tell me that brisket isn’t smoked and then put in a crockpot. However, that’s actually what we thought. There was very little flavor in our brisket even though others have said theirs did have. Plus there was no bark on our brisket. Good brisket always has bark. It’s nearly impossible to smoke a brisket without some bark. The rest of the meal — The ribs were wonderful. That was the best part of the whole meal. They were smokey and the meat slid right off the bone. The beans were just from a can — gold old pork and beans. Sounds like others received different beans. Potato salad tasted like deli potato salad from the local grocer. However, with all that said, the people inside were very friendly and nice. It’s just that they need to raise the bar and improve the sides. However, they choose to serve the meat is what will draw their crowd. For us, it’s not the brisket the south is known for.

Been on my list to try for a while. And yes, this top-notch BBQ spot is located inside a convenience store at a Shell station. I love that this place is completely family-run. Lots of family photos are on the wall. Being the panda glutton that I am, I went for the gusto and ordered the Three Meat Combo Plate($ 15.99). I got ribs, brisket, and pulled pork, along with two sides(chose baked beans and cole slaw). First off, they don’t mess around on portions. This plate could feed a couple of hungry adults, perhaps a small family. The ribs are smothered in their homemade BBQ sauce and smoked at 225 over cherry wood. Very large ribs, although sometimes I think I got more bone and fat than meat. Brisket(smoked for 13 hours) was also a hit. Tender, moist, and smoky. Pulled pork(smoked for 9 hours) was my favorite. Juicy, tender, and smoky — and perhaps happy and sleepy(food coma) were also involved. Both sides were amazing. Baked beans packed a lot of flavor(kudos on adding rib tips in there), and the cole slaw had that refreshing feel, not heavy like other slaws I’ve had. If you want a great spot for BBQ in the area, this is where to go.

Tis the season for BBQ and we have been scouring the Portland Metro area for some finger licking BBQ but who would have thought it would have been located inside a Shell gas station. Yes you read that right, it’s located in a gas station right next to the hot dogs and nachos. Now we have tried several places around the area in search for the perfect meat. Podnah’s is too fatty and bland. Russell Street is ok but not always consistent. Clay’s Smokehouse is well it wasn’t memorable, etc. you get the point. You walk in and BAM the smell hits ya. Makes your mouth water and you’re ready to chow down. We just happened to get there at a perfect time as there were only a couple customers and were able to find a seat in the small space. Remember you’re eating in a gas station so don’t expect some fancy décor. The service was incredible and the BBQ crew were very attentive(family biz). Now say all you want to say about BBQ because everyone’s an expert and has their favorite style: Memphis, Kansas City, Carolinas and Texas. But Louisiana, who knew! We ordered the three platter since we figured you can try a little bit of everything along with two sides and an additional side. This platter easier feed two of us and we were fairly hungry. At first we couldn’t tell the difference between the brisket and pork since both were shredded and had sauce on it. Yes not the typical brisket styling but it was soo good. The meat was tender and not overly smokey as other places. The pork was also tender and moist. Both made for great leftover sandwiches later that day. The pork ribs were finger licking good and the meat just fell off the bone and melted in my mouth. The potato salad took me back to my mom’s mustard tater salad which she put pickles in. The baked beans were incredible with chunks of rib tips. This ain’t no Bush’s baked beans. The coleslaw was more of a vinegar base instead of mayo. We both thought the coleslaw was a bit bland but was much more enjoyable in my leftover sandwich. Just thinking of the ribs while writing this review makes me want to go again. Thanks Daddy D, we’ll be back!

I first wanted to not like the food because it’s in a gas station. Then I met the Donnie, the owner, and that dude is the nicest damn dude you’ll ever meet. He shook my hand, we talked about barbeque, talked family and I wanted to really love the food. I ordered the brisket dinner, a hot link, all four sides, and some pumpkin pie. I took the food to the little picnic tables outside to enjoy dinner. I opened the box of brisket and my heart dropped, I always prefer sliced brisket to chopped brisket. Then I tried it and my heart jumped back up. I prefer slice brisket but the flavor of Daddy D’s is spot on. The hot link was amazing, wrapped it in some white bread and scarfed it down. The baked beans were on point, chunks of meat. Good stuff The coleslaw was mediocre, not great but not bad. The potato salad had great flavor but it was texturally more like sweet relish mashed potatoes. It did have GREAT flavor, though, and once I mixed it with some of the brisket it gave me the texture I wanted and there was great flavor. Dem Greens, though, hoo wee, they were good. Got a chunk of shank in there and it melted in the mouth. Great, great, great greens. The star of the show was still to come though, if Donnie had more pumpkin pie(I got the last slice of the day) I would’ve ordered all of the rest of it to take home. Smooth, sweet, rich, great crust. Man o man amazing amazing amazing. The next time I order, and I will visit this shell station for great barbeque again, I will order the two meat combo with links and brisket and have the sides of greens and beans and every piece of pumpkin pie that is in the kitchen.

I really wanted to love this place. The folks running things are very friendly and the aromas coming from behind the counter are so enticing but all I got was a bunch of disappointment. After finding the place(folks are right, it is a bit tough as there are no signs) I ordered a 3 meat combo to go. In addition to the ribs, brisket and chicken I got collards and beans as the sides. I get to my hotel and rip into the container and sitting on top are these 2 meaty looking ribs. The only problem was that they were inedible. Seriously, I wasn’t able to bite through the outer bark so I ripped shreds off the bone and I wasn’t able to chew the meat! I had to spit it out! This was the case with both of the ribs. Tossing those aside I got to the brisket and was amazed that they chop it like it was pork. I just figure that it was a Louisiana thing. I’ve had better brisket but at least I could chew it. The chicken was a leg and thigh and I was underwhelmed by them both. The collards were under cooked in my opinion but the beans were well made. Reading all of the Unilocal reviews, I have to figure I had a fluke visit but I really don’t see a reason to visit again.

If you haven’t been to Daddy D’s, you gotta go now! I’m dead serious. D’s BBQ is so D good I wanna eat it every day. Very affordable considering the quality of food you are getting, so you can’t use that excuse. It’s located inside the Shell. Across from Dick Hannah. So when you get tired of the sales reps trying to squeeze ya dry, go mull it over over some of the best brisket you have ever had in your life.

At first I couldn’t find it as I was walking from the dealership where I’d left my car for service. Then I figured out that it’s a hole in the wall inside the Shell gas station. I walked in and there it is. I sat at the counter. Besides being a great eatery with wonderful smoked meats, Daddy D’s owner is a real gentleman. He greets everyone like you are family. The pulled pork sandwich was just enough for me, but I’m coming back family. You can order and eat in or grab a large order of ribs to go. You will not be disappointed.

I have been to many BBQ from Texas to GA. This place is the real deal. Owner is from Louisiana and he spends hours and hours prepping and smoking on cherry wood. Every other Friday he has some kind of gator sausage flown in. Thats my next visit I hope. He has been in Willamette weekly and voted very high as best BBQ in State. I have to agree this place is a must go and try! you will be hooked! Warning, its small and inside of the Shell gas station, yes inside! But its authentic and they have Home made sweet potato pie that melts in your mouth his wife makes from an old southern recipe. I Stumbled on this place by accident and this beats every BBQ I ever had. I Dare you to try! Don’t be fooled by the looks as its amazing flavor treat right here in Vancouver near Auto mall.

We had a bit of trouble finding this place because we didn’t realize it was INSIDE a Shell gas station. Then I was a bit hesitant: It’s a BBQ joint INSIDE a gas station. Can’t possibly be good, can it? I was SOOOO wrong. We’ve been there twice now when heading back to Puyallup from visiting Portland and gotten a pound of brisket and a pound of shredded pork. Because we had kind of a far drive, we got the sauce on the side. The sauce is not super thick so I figured I probably wouldn’t like it — I tend to like Sweet Baby Rays and other thick sauces. Again, VERY wrong. It’s AMAZING and goes great with the tender, juicy brisket and pulled pork. We’ll continue to stop here whenever we’re in the area — Don’t let the fact that it’s in a shell station stop you.
