This place is good and affordable but I give it a 2 star after tonight’s dinner with my family. I didn’t know that HAIR came with the salted fish and chicken fried rice! There was hair in the fried rice. I called the server and told her that there’s hair in the fried rice, I showed her the hair and she was still looking for it! She then took two spoons that my brother was using to eat and another one from the table, to remove the hair from the fried rice… after that she looked at me and asked«is this ok?» REALLY? Who the heck does that & ask that. So I answered«No. I want a new one!» She took the fried rice back to the kitchen and had the kitchen make a new one. I’m just disappointed on how she tried to address the situation by removing the hair and expecting me to eat the same fried rice!!!

I don’t understand the 4 stars. Came in with a party of 8. Each of us getting something different. Filipino breakfast: longanisa and bangus. Bangus wasn’t cooked all the way. Middle was pink and cold. Combination noodle soup with«beef stew», won ton and shrimp. No taste even after adding soy sauce and red vinegar. Bbq and won ton tossed noodle. No flavor. Bland. Shrimp fried rice came with just five pieces of shrimp. Wasn’t jumbo shrimp either. 41/50-ish. Pretty much everything we ordered was bland. From the chicken chow fun to the noodle soups to the ji mien. We did enjoy the fried garlic wings, egg plant and tofu. Wings were tiny. :/lady server was really nice and accommodating. So the one star is for their hospitality.

Like a lot of people here I don’t know why I haven’t tried this for the longest time. I’ve been missing out. I love the tapsilog. The beef is excellently cooked. The way they make the eggs is perfect. And they give you two. And the garlic rice is wow. This place is value too. The prices are more than fair and the food quality is excellent. I’ll be a regular here now.

I have no idea why it took me so long to finally try this place out! New Luk has extremely reasonable prices for exquisite food and service with a smile. When I say exquisite, I’m not implying in any way that the restaurant or the food itself is frou frou or bougey. I’m saying that, for what you are paying, you are getting extremely tasty food. Case in point: my daughter HATES veggies, but couldn’t stop eating their eggplant and tofu with garlic sauce(I wasn’t able to stop, either). For $ 18.95, you can have 3 dishes for dinner(each additional dish does not go back to regular price, they honor it as if it were still part of the 3 for $ 18.95 deal). For $ 5.95, you can have Filipino breakfast ALL day. You are probably wondering how a Chinese restaurant can master the art of Filipino breakfast, but believe me. they have it down! We’ve ordered: West Lake Beef Soup — 5⁄5 Seafood Curry Hot Pot — 5⁄5 Eggplant and Tofu in Garlic Sauce — 5⁄5 Sesame Chicken — 5⁄5 Mongolian Beef — 5⁄5 Honey Walnut Prawns — 5⁄5 House Fried Rice — 5⁄5 Beef Fried Rice — 5⁄5 Combosilog: Longanisa and Bangus — 5⁄5 Porkchopsilog — 5⁄5 Tocinosilog — 5⁄5 Garlic chili oil(it comes on the table) — 5⁄5 Thai iced tea — 5⁄5 Growing-up, my family had our Asian food«standby.» You know, the place where you go to have reliably good, inexpensive Chinese food. The place where you go after church, the place where you go on days when you want a fast breakfast/lunch/dinner and don’t wanna cook, the place where you can literally order anything off the menu and have it taste extremely good. and I think I found our spot! :)

Whenever I tag along with my sister to do laundry or my mom wants to go to Seafood City, we usually stop here for lunch. It’s been around in Union City since the old buildings & it’s been remodeled. Love the workers here because they’re always so friendly & helpful. I love their lunch specials. It’s affordable & you get huge portions! This place serves Filipino & Chinese food. I also love their smoothies. It’s a family owned place! Some suggestions: Salt & Pepper Pork with green tea smoothie. Mmmmmm. Give it a try!

This place is close my house and is very good and can actually walk to there. The prices are very good. We had the pork, honey walnut shrimp and the garlic fried rice which was yummy. The service was okay, but definitely chinese owned as the owners spoke to my fiancée in Chinese. Next time we will get the chicken wings.

My wife and I have been patronizing New Luk Yuen Restaurant for the past 37 years. The restaurant has two different types of cuisines… Chinese and Filipino; this is due to a diversified community in Union City, CA. The eatery is family owned and the proprietors are always seeking authentic Oriental cuisine to satisfy someone’s Asian family cooking”. Their«Beef and Chinese Broccoli» is very delicious; this is where the leaves of the broccoli are used, rather than the budding sprouts & stems. Then, of course, their famous«Fried Garlic Chicken Wings» which is very tantalizing; flavor is just perfect. One must try their«Shue Mei Pork Wonton Soup», especially when the weather is cold. On the other hand their«Chinese Rice Cake» or «Putong Puti» as Pilipinos call it, is not up to par if compared to Eastern Bakery, San Francisco’s Chinatown, where the«Puto» is very soft, tasty and very moist. Nevertheless, I highly recommend New Luk Yeun Restaurant’s cuisines for upcoming parties or special events.

Yay! I am a fan of the garlic chicken wings. The wings were crispy, hot and flavorful! Service was fast including leaving the ice water pitcher on the table. Fair prices the price for dinner for two was less than $ 20.

me and the boyfie were lookin for a new place to eat out everytime we have dinner and stumbled upon this place through Unilocal: D woot! We came in and the place was pretty empty but it was a school night so it’s ok The lady who took our order was really nice and quick to take our orders, we go calamari, wings, beef chow fun and house fried rice(feast!!). They even served egg drop soup while we were waiting but the order came fast too. Food was all OK, but the portions were big for the price. All of the food we ordered plus a take home, and our bill only came at $ 25.

New Luk Yuen is a chinese-filipino fusion that specializes in really good CHICKENWINGS. My family goes here to purchase party trays for special occasions. We found out from a family friend who bought a tray for my 19th birthday. The chicken wings were a hit!!! The only thing that I’ve ordered here in store is the filipino breakfast. i wonder how the owners found out how to cook authentic breakfast? My complaint is that that the tocino is a little hard. I’ve given it 2 tries and both times it was hard. Also, the smoothies aren’t really good. I tried it 4 – 5 times to see if theres a difference between flavors but all times it was bland and not enough flavor. The longanisa is delicious though! Get the Combosiliog and try 2 things!!!

I have no idea how this place manages to maintain 4 stars. Upon entering the restaurant was quite empty and felt rather depressing. The waitress was indeed very nice and quick to take our orders. While we waited for food, I had I do a serious wipe down of the sticky chopsticks and plates. I almost asked for a glass of hot water or tea to soak them in but thought it would be rude. The free bowl of soup arrived with a small gnat in it so I didn’t drink that. The honey walnut shrimp arrived on a bed of slightly discolored lettuce. Someone’s review had said it was their regular dish so I had high hopes for it. Unfortunately it was THE worst I’ve ever had. The batter was chewy, the shrimp’s texture unnatural, and the sauce was odd with a lemony flavor. Our second dish(BBQ pork with scrambled egg) was the best of the three we ordered, but it was still nothing special. The last dish was an eggplant and seafood clay pot with spicy garlic sauce. It was not spicy at all. Maybe they forgot to add the peppers or spice to our pot because I had to mix in a spoonful of the chili sauce at our table to improve the flavor. Halfway through our meal, I had to stop eating and kill a mosquito. I was pretty much done after that. Moral of the story: You get what you pay for. (BTW the portions aren’t even as big as people make them sound.) I’d rather pay 2 – 3 bucks more per dish to eat desirable food.

I don’t know why I never tried this place, but I was definitely missing out! This is one of the few restaurants that serves both Chinese & Filipino food. I know, awesome right?! And the best part is that the serving sizes are quite big and the food is cheap! I ordered the salt pepper pork chop($ 6.50) with a cup of white rice($ 1). I had enough food for dinner and lunch for work the next day. It was crispy yet still meaty and it had lots of garlic(probably where the Filipino side comes in haha). I’m definitely going to come back to try more of their traditional Filipino food like their Tocilog and their Halo Halo. If you ever can’t decide on Filipino or Chinese food, this place hits the spot! The inside of the place doesn’t look too appealing from the outside, but that’s not why anyone eats at Chinese or Filipino restaurants. I go for the large portions of delicious authentic food that’s also cheap. Plus the service is quick and the staff is very friendly. Make sure to stop by if you’re in the area!

I have tried their Chinese and Filipino dishes, and they’re both just ok to me. They’re not anything amazing, and on their Filipino dishes, they overdid my eggs just a little bit, which left not enough yolk to moisten the meat, so that was a little disappointing. Their Chinese is also average, which does not compare to the awesome Dragon House in the same shopping plaza. That may be why they have the $ 16.50 for 3 entrees dinner special, but still, If you feel like better Chinese, I’d go to Dragon House anyday. Their Hot and Sour soup is okay and flavorful enough; I miss the abundance of wood-ear, and bamboo shoots though, but it lacked the characteristic sour-ness of authentic hot and sour soup.

Not pretty, definitely not stylish, but for the price and what you get, this place is an incredible value. Americanized Chinese that also offers some Filipino specialties like silog dishes and some desserts. Which totally makes sense cuz they are in Union City after all. Sixteen fiddy for 3 dishes is an awesome value, cuz it can feed 4 – 6 peeps no prob. The use of cornstarch is a little much, but most people I know don’t really pay attention to those details. Some items are nicely balanced while other items can get a bit salty. Their congee here is nice. The right texture for me, not too thick and not too thin. And don’t skimp on the chili condiment on the table, it is so good. It is fried dried chilis that is salted then preserved in oil. It is not crazy hot but adds an incredible depth of flavor to anything you add it to. Congee is ideal. Garlic Chicken Wings are appropriately crunchy and garlic-y. A little salty for my taste but still nice with beers at home. Almost as good as China Station down the road. I actually found their Halo Halo to be quite good. Just lacking the preserved jack fruit in my opinion but a generous scoop of ube ice cream just sets it off. You’ll often see a group of old timers in here, rehashing a taste from the old world. Good stuff.

My family and I have been coming here ever since before the whole plaza was remodeled/revamped. This place serve great Filipino dishes, Chinese food and pearl drinks. When I am in a mood for my tocilog and garlic fried rice, this place is the first thing that pops in my head. Prices are very inexpensive for what you get and plenty more! My order is always a hit and I always finish my plate!

My boyfriend and I got lazy and did not want to cook, so we decided to go out and eat. He did not want to drive far, so we decided to pick a place close to his house. There was a lot of parking spots, so parking was not a problem. When we walked into the restaurant there was plenty of seats so we did not have to wait. We got sat down right away. Since we came here during lunch time, we both got their lunch special. Their lunch special was only $ 5.50, pretty cheap. I got myself a salt and pepper fry pork and my boyfriend got the mongolian beef. The wait for the food did not take long, probably took 5 – 10 minutes for our meal to arrive. Our lunch special included a tofu soup which was tasty. It needed a bit salt, but I like it less salty. I just added some pepper for some flavor. The food was hot and tasted good. Their fried pork was really juicy with a hint of garlic flavor. It actually had meat unlike some other restaurants I’ve tried which tasted like batter. So this was a plus for me. My boyfriend’s mongolian beef had a lot of flavor too but it was a little spicy for my liking. Considering the price for this restaurant, I give this place a 4 star rating. The exterior and interior of the restaurant may not look nice or clean, but their food was good. However, if they were to update their interior, it may inflate their food price. So it weighs out, I’ll rather pay for their food instead of how the restaurant looks. However, if they do updated the place a little and make it more comfortable, I would give this place a 5 stars, only if the pricing stays the same. I am not sure if they have a dinner special but I think it is definitely worth coming here to eat for lunch. I would recommended this place to other people to try it out, if you are nearby and want to grab a quick cheap tasty lunch.

LOOOOVE this place so much!. We always get my daughter’s fave pan fried noodle & string bean chicken. My husband always gets the lumpia and mandarin beef and I like to get the mongolian beef w/a side of the garlic chicken wings.(Mandarin beef is like peking beef, but smaller slices so there aren’t any bones. It’s genius!) I’m so glad we discovered this place via Unilocal a few months ago. We seriously come here a LOT so they probably think I don’t know how to cook or something, haha! The people who work there are really nice hardworking people — make sure you tip them well! P. S. Buy those salt and garlic peanuts near the TV — they’re addictive and my family loves them!
