Great place for some sushi! I highly recommend the albacore with garlic chips to start off the night with a bottle of Plum wine to cleanse the garlic for the next dish. Try the«Sabashio»(grilled mackerel) bento box with spicy tuna roll. That is delicious and made to perfection. Finish the evening with some green tea ice cream and polish off the wine bottle. Then head next door for some Kean Coffee! Drive Safely home!

Good tasting food. Usually we get seated fast since we go a little earlier than regular dinner times because japanese restraunts get super crowded during dinner and their restraunts are usually small if its an authentic japanese place.

Great neighborhood sushi bar. The sushi master does all the purchasing and does a great job. They have traditional soups and ramen on the counter which makes them much more traditional than your average sushi spot. Too thumbs up!

We decided to come eat here after being notified that there was an hour and a half wait at Gen Kbbq. This place is good if you are craving Japanese food, but don’t want to wait in long lines. We ordered the salmon skin salad, fried cartilage, black cod, and the bbq rib bento box. All of the food we ordered was great! Overall, the staff was very friendly and the food was good. My only complaint would be is that the tables are a little too small to fit all the food. Either that or I ordered too much.

I’ve been going here for a while now and figured I might as well share my thoughts after looking at some of the other reviews. I don’t think this should be considered authentic Japanese cuisine. Being full Japanese myself and having spent time with relatives in Japan on many occasions, I think I have a decent gauge. That being said, it’s not a negative; I still enjoy the food and the variety here. They put their own twist to some traditional dishes. Yesterday I had the baked halibut roll stuffed with crab and avocado, and it was pretty good, but just a bit heavy on the crab. The spinach salad was simple and flavorful, though I personally prefer slightly less dressing. My mom had the shrimp and sizzling rice soup, which was delicious. While I’ve seen another review state that the place isn’t family friendly, I’d have to disagree. Sure, they don’t have a «kid’s menu» or anything, but if your kids have a palate for this type of food, they’ll be fine. The servers are plenty accommodating every time we bring kids(ages 4 and 7). They usually love the chicken karaage.

Oki Doki is an authentic Japanese restaurant. They don’t just serve sushi, but they serve true authentic Japanese dishes. If you’re in the mood for stewed squid and radish, they’ll have that for you. I personally like to sit at the bar and get to know the sushi chef and his recommendations. I’ve come to appreciate their Lemon & Salmon roll and anything they make that involves Salmon skin. This is a hole in the wall, and the service is great, the prices are decent, and the cuisine out of the ordinary. I recommend it if you’re in Tustin!

GREATFRIENDLYSERVICE. GREATFOOD. My wife and our best friend come here at least 2 – 3 times a month. Everything is great especially the Oden during the winter months. Recommend everything except the dishes containing beef intestines. I have tried a lot of the dishes on the extensive menu. The Sizzling Rice Soup is really great. Oyako and katsudon are great. Tempura is great. Never disappointed. Gets crowded sometimes so make a reservation if you want to save a wait. Parking is sometimes a problem.

We initially avoided this place due to the name. «Oki Doki» what the heck were they thinking of? Finally we tried it and now we frequent it almost weekly. Coincidentally, we discovered two of our friends come here often so now we often come as a group. Group seating is difficult since it frequently crowded plus the restaurant is small. Many Japanese executives come here after work which speaks about the authenticity of the place. If you are looking for how many different variety of fish can you stack on a roll then this isn’t the place for you. Its a traditional Japanese restaurant with good quality ingredients prepared to yield simple clean tastes. Its one of the few places that actually has a Japanese chef cooking in the back. My kids are sad because they like him up front when we sit at the sushi bar. Is it a fancy restaurant — No, its light years away from being Asian fusion. Originally we came here for the sushi. Then we migrated to the menu and now mostly eat all the cooked food. All the fish are fresh. I never had a bad experience or had to wonder about it. Noodle dishes are very good. My kids and I like the misho ramen with spicy green onions, fried rice, gyoza(great and juicy) and fried chicken with dipping sauce to name a few. I haven’t tried the Oden yet but I get that at my mom’s house. The black seabass in miso is very good. The miso soup has a distinct smokiness to it. My buddy loves the albacore sashimi with garlic chips. My oldest son loves gobo kimpura. The service is great and the friendly service always brings us back. Its definitely a very small authentic Japanese family type restaurant that suit this Unilocaler’s taste. Its good Japanese food at a fair price. Yes I am a fan!

A foodie friend invited a group of us to come here for dinner tonight. As I checked out it’s location I realized it’s the same strip mall as a few other highly popular restaurants that I’d either been to or have been wanting to try. So, I had a feeling there was going to be quite a wait, but thank goodness my friend made a 6.30pm dinner reservation earlier in the day. As I drove into the strip mall parking lot, my biggest fear came true… an absolutely packed parking lot with cars circling around repeatedly like a game of musical chairs, just waiting for a space to open up… so beware. At the restaurant itself, there was already a few small groups of customers waiting for a table as the restaurant was totally full. The place is a cute little restaurant with various Japanese related decorative motifs which gave it its character, and there was a choice of either table or sushi bar seating. Since there was 7 of us, we were given a table… unfortunately, we were given one near the door and it was quite a chilly evening that every time the door was opened a gust of chilly air would blow our way. As for the food, there is quite a vast selection of various Japanese dishes to select from the menu. My foodie friend was particularly interested in the Oden offered… which is essentially a Japanese winter dish consisting of several ingredients such as boiled eggs, daikon, and fishcakes stewed in a light soy-flavoured dashi broth. Just so we could try more items, she went ahead and ordered several other sides and starter dishes like the Tsukemono(homemade Japanese pickles), Lotus Root Chips, Fried Scallop on a stick, and Cold Homemade Sesame Tofu. For mains to share we ordered the Grilled Squid, Grilled Atka Mackerel… one of my friends ordered a Hot Udon with Tempura, and for myself I ordered a Hot Soba with Tempura. The two kids ordered a bento box dinner each… one with Chicken Karaage and one with Grilled Mackerel… which came with the usual bento sides. There was one other dish we ordered that looked like a small sampler of of various pickled vegetables and spicy octopus(so I was told), but I have no clue what that was. Ok, I’m not going to get into detail on each of the above dishes, but will say that overall it was all very good quality«authentic» Japanese food, and judging by the constant crowd here throughout the evening, we’re not the only ones who thought this. This was the first time I’d tried the Oden and was glad I did as I don’t think it’s offered year round. I enjoyed it very much, especially on this cold night… the broth, stewed daikon, and fishcakes were all yummy, and healthy too. I guess my only two complaints would be first, the soups for the soup noodles my friend and I ordered were steaming, but not piping hot as it should be. My friend decided to send his back to get heated more, but I was ok with mine not being too hot. My other complaint would be with the homemade Japanese pickles(Tsukemono). The cucumber and daikon weren’t pickled enough and as kind of neither here nor there with the taste. Other than that, I enjoyed the taste of everything else. Note, the lotus root chips would go great with some beer and a football game on a big screen TV… just sayin’. Service was very good here, albeit hectic as the servers tried to take everyone’s orders at once, and with the place being so crowded, I was quite pleasantly surprised that the food came out as fast as it did… and our server kept our tea cups filled with hot green tea! Very nice place for a meal! Oh, it may also be useful to mention that while walking to the rest room, I noticed some orders of a sizzling hot plate of beef on a few tables… and the smell was oh so good! Fyi about the restroom… well, the men’s anyway. I was a bit spooked out as I entered into the men’s as the toilet seat cover on the WC just raised by itself! No, the place isn’t haunted… it’s just the built-in motion sensor in the WC! :)

This place is not family friendly. Understanding the place, friend and I took family for early bird dinner with three grade school boys and a girl. Wait person would not seat us and ask us to wait even thought there are open tables to accommodate us. I am glad not supporting the place for many years and also a good place called Honda-Ya.

I met up with my friend here on a Monday for lunch right when it opened at 11:30a(with my young one in tow). I’ve only been here once for dinner before so this was my first time for lunch. They had their usually fare such as udon, soba, donburi, sushi, ramen… My friend wanted to get their lunch combo that came with a choice of soba or udon(hot or cold) and a small rice side for $ 9.00. This special is only served until 1:00p Monday thru Friday(weekday lunch hour ends at 2:30p). The soba/udon choices were either plain, kitsune(with fried bean curd), or sansai, I think. The side changes daily and Monday was a mini katsu don(panko fried pork cooked in egg). The rest of the week: Tuesday — sake/ikura oyako don(salmon, salmon roe, and cooked egg) Wednesday — una don(eel) Thursday — maguro nakaochi don(tuna flesh from the spine) Friday — shio buta don(salted pork) I chose the cold kitsune soba and my friend got the plain cold soba(seiro). My kid just wanted a hot kitsune udon so I initially ordered just that, but it was $ 8.00 so I changed it to the combo since it’s more food for a $ 1.00 more(I figured my oldest will eat the katsu don when she gets home from school). Overall, my combo was just okay. If anything, the cold soup to pour on my kitsune soba was watered down too much… but who knows, I may be back here again in another 4 years when another social meet up arises :)

Found this place to get away from the traffic coming back from SD. I was traveling with a Japanese friend. Can I say authentic when the next table is having a loud conversation in nihongo? They had these $ 10 bento boxes, but it ended a few minutes earlier. Read the small print! I ordered two orders of maki rolls, both having tuna. Spicy Tuna roll & Cajun Tuna roll. The later had sriracha in it. My friend ordered Seiro which is basically tempura w/a cold soba noodle. I have to say the portions were small but it was really good and refreshing. Kind of like those classic Japanese restaurants that used to exist in Little Tokyo, but are being wiped out one-by-one for franchise-like hipster places. Bill came out to almost $ 40 with the tip. Good place to try if you are in this area. Too far from my area. This mall also has some other cool stores in it like 7 leaves.

Takashi is the best. The staff is super friendly and attentive. Food is great and the Omakase by Takashi is to die for. Thanks to him now I don’t have to go to LA to get sushi. One extremely happy customer.

Always like this location better than the Costa Mesa location(that one has been closed for months.) So many menus(literally) and food options! It’s great when your party cannot agree on what to eat, lol. The staff are polite, busy place for a Saturday night but no wait at 8:30pm. We ordered the combo appetizers, grilled mackeral, grilled beef tongue, and the garlic over albacore sashimi. The albacore was buried under a pile of fried garlic chips, thought it was way too much garlic but ate it all, so good. The beef tongue was quite chewy, they should have sliced them half the thickness I thought. Great meal overall. Bonus for being next to Kean’s coffee!

I dropped in to this place because I was next door at the UPS store. Service was good. I got the bento box which start at $ 9. I got the chicken teriyaki and California rolls(option between that or spicy tuna roll). This meal also includes miso soup, salad, rice, and yam pieces fried. The meal wasn’t that great, I definitely wouldn’t come back for it. Maybe this is not the meal this place is known for, if I come back I will be trying the soba and sushi.

Oki Doki is running a promotion for early bird in April from 5 to 7pm, therefore, a good reason to check it out. The staffs were friendly, hot green tea were compliment and I appreciated that. We had ordered Tempura, Tereyaki Salmon and Tonkatsu(pork Cutlet). So far so good. Portion was not big but It was only ten dollars and come with California roll or spicy tuna roll, not bad for the money. Definitely worth to try it for the Happy hours.

1. Good Value 2. Good Menu Selection 3. Decent Service ** tough parking lot Recommendations: — Chirashi — good quality sushi, not the highest grade in selection, but it’s good! — Ramen — Authentic and delicious(better than Ajisen to me) — Lunch specials are excellent deals!

My new found artistic, creative and talented chef Takashi. I Came into this small and humble restaurant the first time and was blown away. I have not gone to other sushi place since. He is my Da Vinci of food, inventive and meticulous. Yes it might not be as elaborate as some fancy places. He utilizes everything he has to make it looks great and tastes amazing. I came here because of a recommendation from a waitress of another restaurant. When i first came in I sat at a table instead of the sushi bar. what i love about this place is their staffs. They are so friendly and energetic. The décor is basically similar to some of the small shops i’ve been in japan. I thought i was back in japan. I ordered a few things on the menu and was amazed right away. So i started ordering some sushi and that’s when Chie, our waitress recommend us to sit at the bar and meet Takashi, the executive chef there. He was skilled and knowledgeable. Everything were so fresh and some japanese fish i’ve never knew about and had to try them. I recommend omakase if you don’t know or prefer any fish. Takashi will blow you away. Check out some of the photos i’ve uploaded. They look and taste fantastic. There are alot of things on the menu you can try, but sushi is the best thing there. sushi is a 5 Stars, while other things are like 4 stars for me. Takashi and their staffs are so welcoming. I’ve been come one of their regular. I was there 3 times a week at one point. well enough praise haha. Thank you Takashi and everyone at oki doki tustin.

4 stars for their lunch menu. This place reminds me of Ichimi-An in Torrance. A small japanese restaurant that serves handmade soba and various combinations for lunch. I ordered the soba with tempura bowl and really enjoyed the texture of the cold soba. The tsuyu was light but had good balance. They also served some japanese craft beers which tasted surprisingly decent. I have yet to try their sushi or their more extensive dinner menu, but I enjoy places like this that serve a healthy, tasty, and reasonably priced lunch.
