A nice enough supermarket with a decent selection, but we almost left because the lines were so slow. Visited twice during an off-peak weekend and both times the lines were long. The first time wasn’t terrible, but the second time the line for the express register was well into the aisle. The regular lines were even longer. There were several closed registers and no apparent attempt to open more during nearly ½ hour waiting.

Wonderful management and employees. I did a liquor promo here and they were so accommodating and kind! They have an amazing liquor, wine and cheese selection, as well as hot fresh prepped foods, salads, etc. Delicious hot soups! It was a bit crowded and cramped, but organized and surprisingly clean for all the wet soggy snowboots they get walking through there! Super friendly locals, too!

Come at high season and you’ll have plenty of company. The lines for the cashiers are exceedingly long! Fortunately, you can speed up your departure by using the self-check lanes: there’s a single line for a handful of self-check stations, and Safeway personnel lurk around to deal with problems that trigger red lights at stations. While you can’t scan alcohol at the self-check, a staff member will come over to check our your alcohol if you’ve waited in the self-check line. The produce that we bought at this Safeway was of «supermarket quality» and no better. On the other hand: I pretty much liked the made-to-order ham and cheese sandwich that I ordered at the deli line. The«French roll» that I chose as my bread tasted mighty sweet to me, but otherwise the sandwich was A-OK. Also, I bought a bag of pre-ground Peets coffee at this location and was perfectly happy with the coffee I made when I got back to my temporary Tahoe«home».

This review is for the floral department who delivered the most AMAZING bridal bouquets for my September wedding. If you are getting married in the area look here first. Christy(sp?) and her staff made the most gorgeous floral bouquets imaginable for my wedding, for an extremely good price as I was on a tighter budget. They literally looked like they were out of a high-end bridal magazine! Safeway floral is always high quality and I’m thrilled these wonderful ladies were able to deliver exactly what I was picturing. All I did was bring in some photos I liked, gave my general color scheme and some flower suggestions, and they went from there making sure everything was in season and would work with the weather. I could not recommend them enough! They also made awesome boutonnieres for the groomsmen that were a simple white rose with some cool greenery that went perfectly with the bouquets. At this location they have not done a lot of weddings other than providing loose flowers for arrangements, but were definitely up to the challenge, were very willing to work with me, deliver ONTIME, and make me one happy bride at the end of the day :) My Mother in Law kept the bouquets at her house(unwrapped in vases) and said they lasted for over a week at her house, wow. THANKYOU Safeway floral department and Christy!!!

For the love of god, if you are in Truckee and need groceries/alcohol, DONOTCOMETOTHISSAFEWAY. There is nothing wrong with the store or the employees themselves, its just the fact that if you come here, you are guaranteed to wait at least 30 minutes in the checkout line. I have no clue why they staff only 2 – 3 people at the checkout when there are literally a horde of people in line. It’s just a huge bummer to waste ~45 minutes of your Tahoe vacation standing in line. *Important Note: The self-checkout can ONLY be used if you are purchasing non-alcoholic items — which is funny because 95% of the people in the store are here to buy alcohol.
