A regular Chinese take out, but tastier than usual. Really not meant for eat in, just few utilitarian seats, but whether take out or eat in —Excellent food –worth the drop by.

Chinese food so good you’ll be speaking fluent Mandarin by the time you finish your last bite. 5 stars.

Good fast friendly… Not the best quality, but a great pick when you want cheep Chinese take out. The Lo-mein is much better than the fried rice… The potions are huge… Customer service is great…

This is the ONLY chinese food place I will order from. EVER. I will travel to get this food because its always consistant. Do not read the long winded review bc they are right, they are spoiled and need to get their head straight. Not everyone caters to their lazy lifestyle. General Tso is by far their best. Crab Rangoons also most popular. My order is always ready in 10 min, the longest I ever had to wait, on a busy sat night was 15 min and the quality was the same if not better. I LOVE this place and will rave about it until I die!

For this area, this place is great! Fast, tasty, and quality food. I’m pregnant currently, and if I’m looking for a good but terrible for me meal, this is my go to spot. Crab rangoon is creamy… one of the good kinds. Boneless BBQ ribs are good, chicken fingers great, wonton soup is good. We’ve had other meals too from there and they are not all the best, but we’ve been satisfied every time.

I dont know what the other person was talking about. The food is consistantly good, portions are plenty, and the people are friendly. Prices are not bad either

All together now… «EEK!» Maybe I’m spoiled, coming from the huge metropolis that is Albany, NY(I jest), where we have a plethora of Chinese restaurants. I do not envy my family members who recently relocated to Torrington, due to the seeming lack of dining options here. Not just in terms of Asian cuisine, but eateries in general. Anyway, we all had a long, grueling weekend of helping said family members carry heavy stuff on and off a moving truck. So we wanted calories and we wanted them quickly. Not knowing the options in the area, we searched our smart phones and made a few calls. First strike against Hong Kong Star: No delivery. Now, I recognize that Torrington is a small city, but still, no delivery? We also asked when we called if they had a menu online for our viewing pleasure. Again, no. So, we whined a little, but then we loaded our sore and cranky selves into the car. I immediately noticed when we walked inside that they had handwritten signs posted indicating that they do not accept debit or credit cards; only cash or check. Who doesn’t take credit cards these days? Furthermore, who carries a checkbook? Plus they have no ATM. Fortunately I had about $ 30 on me, so we didn’t have to drive down the street to the nearest bank. Rest assured that if I had to get back in the car, we would have gotten dinner elsewhere. So we ordered our food and waited. While we sat, we had the opportunity to take in the dining room and kitchen area. I found it interesting that a place with no delivery service and no willingness to accept my plastic money would have such a small dining room. You know, I thought maybe they’d want to appeal to the customers on some level aside from simply selling calories. But they have only two tables that seat four people apiece. The place was moderately clean, but it’s one of those shops where they don’t seem to turn the thermostat up and just depend on the heat from the cooking to keep the pipes from freezing. The staff actually prepares food while wearing their coats. So, not only do they not deliver, but they don’t really encourage you to dine in, either. Take-out it is! Fantastic. Our food was ready about 25 minutes later and we hit the road. Eating the food is now somewhat of a blur. The only thing that stood out as being particularly bad was the pork fried rice, which was actually a little crunchy and undercooked. Not so bad that I didn’t eat it in my famished state; I just didn’t enjoy it. The flavor of the chicken lo mein was decent, as were the bbq spare ribs and chicken fingers. One final complaint: they use a lot of MSG in the food here. If you are even slightly sensitive to MSG, beware. I often feel a little crappy the following day after eating food containing a lot of MSG, but I’ve never had a reaction like this. Thirty-six hours later, I still felt like I was hit by a Mac truck. In conclusion, I thank my lucky stars that I don’t ever have to come back to Hong Kong Star. It’s okay in a pinch, I suppose, but I’d personally opt out.
