Closed as of 12÷30÷13. Why? Sooooo disappointed. Hope they decide to open somewhere else, as they had the best reasonably priced tonkatsu in L.A.

Last chance to savor the tender tonkatsu, so 12-28-2013, I went here. Staff said they will close 12-30-2013 to be replaced by a new kind of eating establishment. Great, tender, special tonkatsu. Goodbye, and good luck on your future endeavors!

Katsuhana is located inside the Mitsuwa Marketplace food court and offers many katsu(fried meat) dishes. They are known for the chicken or pork katsu, but they also have fried shrimps and other items. The portion size, price, quality and flavor are all excellent. I typically go with the chicken katsu set. It comes with a pretty nice sized katsu, rice, tuskemono, miso soup, cabbage salad and potato salad. They have a couple different dipping sauces for the katsu and cabbage salad that’s on the side of the counter where you can also get water or hot tea. If I remember correctly the price is around $ 11 plus tax. Not the cheapest lunch at Mitsuwa, but it’s definitely the tastiest place! This is by far my most favorite spot to eat at inside Mitsuwa. They close pretty early compared to the other places in the good court so make sure you go around lunch time and you should be fine. Just keep in mind that during lunch it can get really crowded so sometimes it’s hard to find a table to sit at!

very good chicken katsu! I love their katsu sauces — regular and spicy and you can always refill yourself(condiments on the side). I like how this place gives you free tea in additional to free water like the rest of the food court restaurants in mitsuwa. the price is good for what you get too :)

After coming here for years, today’s lunch is quite sad. Doesn’t help when the ladies behind the counter didn’t understand my disappointment. For the same price now, they leave out a side order of tofu and cocktail. And the miso soup is just plain with some shredded seaweed. No more pieces of pork in the soup. When I asked what happened? One of the ladies said«we changed our menu».

Where’s Katsuhana? Katsuhana is one of many food joints in the Mitsuwa Marketplace Food Court. No comment about service cause it’s in a food court, but this particular food joint offers complementary self-serving FREE hot tea and cold water(it’s located on the right side of cashier counter). Pork Tender Loin Cutlet Set(Number 3, $ 9.8 w/a bowl of rice, miso soup, potato salad, cabbage salad) — Potato salad was whatever, but pork tenderloin cutlet and miso soup were pretty decent. The portion size was enough to get me full. I personally still prefer Santoka ramen joint, but Katsuhana is not a bad alternative if you are looking for something other than ramen.

I was craving some tonkatsu and I wasn’t in the mood for ramen. Ordered pork cutlet miso sauce set and pork loin cutlet set. #7 Pork cutlet w miso sauce set($ 8.90): the first bite was good but I got tired of eating it. I had to get my own sauce for this. #1 Pork loin cutlet set($ 9.50): it came with 2 sauces and its own metal rack. It was a little bit better than pork cutlet. Both meals come with bland miso soup and bland potato salad. The cabbage salad is not bad because I eat it with goma sauce. Don’t forget to eat your tonkatsu with mustard. Dine in only; no take out. Cash only No more refill for nice. 3.5 stars! It’s not bad for the price but I don’t mind paying more for better and tastier tonkatsu. Katsuhana is kinda yummylicious!

I’ve only tried the Chicken Cutlet here and never the Pork Cutlet because, well, Chicken is healthier and they offer it. This is one of the best Chicken Katsu I have ever tried. The Katsu sauce is perfect as well. I would give the quality 5 stars, but only gave 4 stars because the portions are so small and always leaves me hungry. I usually just order an extra cutlet to satisfy my needs.

Misokatsu misokatsu misokatsu :) Not a lot of restaurants in Southern California has misokatsu so when I find a place that does, I get really excited :) Their portion is big so brace yourself. The katsu is nice and juicy but not too greasy. The potato salad that comes on the side is really good as well.

I’ve eaten here several times, ever since my dad brought me here for lunch about a year ago. I have always ordered the #1 set, pork cutlet, rice, miso soup, some pickled veggies, tofu with something on it(I think I remember my sister says it’s dried fish skin, it’s yummier than it sounds lol), a little dollop of potato salad, cabbage salad and some fruit cocktail. All of that for only around $ 9, not including a drink(I always just order water) Everything always tastes fresh and is served piping hot. The lady who works there is usually nice, I have no complaints, but I can see from what Stanley H. says from his encounter with her and the soy sauce, she can be rather curt, but that was really rude of her, and actually she will not give you your food unless you show her your receipt with the order number. Anyways, I love the food and have no major complaints(except for those ladies with the carts cleaning up the tables, if you don’t watch out, they will straight up ram into you with one of those things!) P. S. There is a display food of a super gigantic shrimp that they serve… can someone please tell me if shrimp really do come that big??? It costs $ 20, so I’ve never ordered it and I was just wondering LOL P.P.S…Cash only :-/

Typically, pork tends to dry out when deep fried at most katsu places I’ve tried. Katsuhana delivered a juicy pork katsu with light batter breading. The portion size is fairly large. Definitely was a good meal.

I like tonkatsu the way Julio Iglesias likes his women … hot, golden brown, and tender. Katsuhana is a restaurant in the Mitsuwa Marketplace Food Court specializing in fried pork loin, fried chicken cutlets, & huge fried shrimp. The key to a great Japanese tonkatsu is to be crispy, golden brown on the outside with juicy, tender meat inside. Katsuhana succeeds at pulling off the breaded exterior as well as any restaurant and would be rated even higher if the pork was more succulent. I tried a Pork Loin(Ro-su Katsu) Cutlet Set #1 for $ 8.80. The beautiful pork cutlet is served on a metal rack which keeps the bottom as crispy as the top. The set comes with Steamed White Rice, small Pork Soup(Tonjiru), small Potato Salad, Pickles, a Cabbage Salad, a small Fruit Salad, and Hot Tea. If it sounds like a lot, well, it is. I loved the rice and thought the potato salad and soup were totally fine, however, the star of the show is the tonkatsu. The sauces for the cabbage salad and tonkatsu are self serve. Traditional Tonkatsu Sauce is a thick, sweet, yet tart partner for the meat. Katsuhana also offers a Sesame Tonkatsu version as well. I definitely want to come back to try the $ 21 Shrimp(Ebi) Set or the juicy Hire Katsu Pork Tenderloin set. Because Katsuhana is located in Mitsuwa, there is plenty of parking and lots of seating except when the shopping center is really busy. More food courts need to have a great Japanese alternative like the tonkatsu at Katsuhana.

If you looking for an authentic Japanese Katsu joint no need to look any further because you have just arrived at your destination. Katsuhana serves katsu in the exact same fashion as a restaurant in Japan. This is a deep fried heaven for all you katsu fanatics. I always order the pork, shrimp, and crab cream croquet combination that comes with a side of minced cabbage, potato salad, and miso soup all for around $ 10. Yes I like variety. They usually give you the regular katsu sauce with this combo but I always add the katsu sauce with the sesame which gives everything a little more flavor. In the past the portions were a little more generous but lately they have been skimping a little bit on the combo’s. I can’t really complain about anything else because for around $ 10 you are getting better katsu then most places that charge $ 10 – 20.

Read some reviews saying Katsuhana was comparable to Maisen in Tokyo, so I had to give it a try. The place is a part of a large food court area inside the Mitsuwa Marketplace. The menu looked promising. I ordered the pork loin meal, which also included a tofu appetizer, miso soup, a fruit dessert, a huge bowl of rice and dipping sauces for my pork. I was excited when they called my number and my order was ready. It looked good, but it was not Maisen. Though this is pretty close to what I’ve found thus far in the states. All in all, pretty good meal though and I’d come back.

For food court quality, this place is as good as it can get! Abit their price is on the high side(19.90 for 2 jumbo shrimp?! What are they thinking!!) but the quality is a step above from their competitors. I always ordered their Miso cutlet set(#7). The port cutlet is the standard pork lion, it has some fat and it is quiet juicy. Their miso paste/dressing is very good too. I can’t find this anywhere else in LA. However, they have reduced their sauce portion significantly so I always feel like I need to ask for another. They seems to cut down on their portion alot. I mean, first is the cut down with the rice refill, then the soup is no longer ¾ full(more like 2⁄3 or LESS). The cabbage is no longer«abundant», but I still love their salad dressing(They used to sell it at mitsuwa but no more). Its still tasty and a decent choice when visiting Torrance Mitsuwa esp when I am so over with the Ramen joint(Santoka). However, they need to stop cutting down on little things!

Their katsu is pretty good in terms of katsu that you can get in LA. My favorite is hire katsu. It is very juicy inside and crispy outside. Other items — Ebi fry is good. Very crunchy. But Kani cream is so so and besides it is imitation crab. The regular size is pretty big already. Even when you are really really hungry, just regular size would make you stuffed with no problem!

This Katsuhana place is in the food court section of Mitsuwa grocery store. I ordered two dishes, the tonkatsu dinner plate and a side order of the pork tenderloin tonkatsu. It took about 10 – 15 minutes for them to prepare the order, but well worth the wait. The pork cutlet was quite good and crispy on the outside. The side dishes were also good and for $ 11 bucks you can’t go wrong. But what was even better was the pork tenderloin cutlet katsu. It was very tender and yummy. The outside was crunchy and inside there were many layers of thinly slice pork that was very juicy and tasty. This tonkatsu actually tasted better than the one I had in Japan. Two thumbs up. I will definitely be going back!

Probably some of the best Katsu in Torrance Although this place is a bit pricey($ 10) for a restaurant in a food court(Mitsuwa Marketplace). I have to say it has some of the best katsu in Torrance. The meat is not too dry, and the katsu is a satisfying crispy. Although it is a bit pricey, there are generous portions, and enough generally to fill you up, If you can’t decide where to eat, and are in the Mitsuwa Food court, this would be a safe bet to choose.

Food court at Mitsuwa marketplace. We’d been dreaming of coming back to this place since the last time we went to LA. We were early, so we had plenty of time to look at the display of the dishes the various food places had to offer. I love tempura and knew right away I would eat here. I had the shrimp combination plate, there was plenty of food and with the extra sushi we bought and added, made the meal. Try this place, you won’t be disappointed.

Another one of the really good places in the food court area of Mitsuwa marketplace. The katsu had a little too much breading but it was still good. And you get a hella lot of food, let me tell you. You could almost feed 2 people with one order… or, in my case, maybe one and half of me. I liked the set menu I got… don’t remember which one it was but it had the jumbo shrimps and two other kinds of katsu fried stuff with ham and cheese oozing out of it… mmmmm.
