Tried this place a few years ago and figured the poor service and exorbitant prices might be a fluke. I like to support local business, but after today, I’ll never come back. Figured my hedger would be a quick fix but, the gentleman at the counter wouldn’t even take 5 minutes to take a look before telling me «three weeks» twice with some attitude added in. Glad I figured out that this is their norm since I was considering Roy Boys for the winterization of my new mower.

Just moved to the area and needed my Craftsman gas weed whacker adjusted as it would start but would not keep running when the throttle was depressed. Took it in and was greeted friendly enough, but that soured quickly. I explained the issue, he said without a stutter that will be $ 80 and preceded to tell me all that was involved in the repair. I thank them and said no thanks, I could buy a new one for that amount. The story is not over… I went home and went to Unilocal and other places looking for a more reasonable approach. Called several and when one answered I explained the issues. He said that is an easy fix. If I could get there before he closed he would fix it for free, and he did. All it took was an adjustment to the mixture screw and the throttle screw and it was done in 5 mins. We spent the next half hour talking about fishing. Moral to the story is… Don’t go to Roy-Boys unless you have money to burn. There have to be other places less expensive and willing to work with you.

I had heard some negative reviews about this place and had almost written them off, until my wonderful wife took the time to look up recent reviews. Certainly several years ago, they got some bad reviews, but in the last couple of reviews it appears things are back on track. And I will add my five-star review here. I have a reliable old Honda mower and have never needed to take it in for service. Recently I wanted to swap out the old blade for a mulching one. Two bolts hold the blade on. After some WD-40 and some work, I got Bolt #1 off. Bolt #2, however… Let’s just say I spent the next hour or so attempting every method I could read about or hear from my knowledgable neighbor. Finally after hearing what my wife had to say about Roy Boys, I made a decision to take it in. I called them up one day and a pleasant woman took down my info. I was expecting a long lead time, as I knew they were a busy place. She offered to have me go in first thing the next morning and she would ask one of her mechanics to see if he could get the bolt off. I showed up at 8:00 am and they got me right in. While they worked, I spent some time drooling over the Stihl chainsaws and Toro mowers while enjoying the warmth of the amazing wood stove they have in that place. The gentleman behind the counter offered me fresh coffee and was very pleasant to talk to. I was vindicated as I could also see the mechanics struggling with that bolt, but was confident that they had the right tools for the job. It took them about 15 minutes and involved breaking the old bolt to get it out. New blade was installed, with one new bolt and I was on my way. The best $ 20 I could have spent that day for sure. Overall this was a very good experience and I will not hesitate to take my mower back in there for a tune-up this winter.

Outstanding service! I purchased a $ 500 lawnmower from HomeDepot 5+ years ago. I used it for about a year before we moved into an apartment with no lawn to mow. It sat outside for 4+ years. When we moved it the drive train had completely locked up, the engine wouldn’t stay on, but when it did it was spewing oil, it was rusted in numerous places, and in horrible shape. Needless to say it was inoperable. I took it to Roy Boys, they gave me a pretty fair estimate for the overall cost to repair and not only did they fix it and clean it so it looks and runs like new, but the final cost came in roughly $ 25 less than quoted. This is the place to go for any small motor repair!

Good place for repairs, I have taken several items there for fixing, lawn mower, leaf blower etc… I picked up several Stihl gas powered equipment from them in the past. Place has been there for years and my often be over looked. Stop by there and check them out if you need any yard care items.

Definitely not your big box store. Have friendly service and stand by their products. Bought a Briggs & Stratton pressure washer from Roy-Boys and after a year carburetor broke due to a change Briggs & Stratton had made using a more corrosive prone metal from a foreign manufacturer that failed with Oregon’s ethanol blended gasoline. While Briggs & Stratton dragged their feet not sure whether to stand behind their product, Roy-Boys service manager took it upon their location to stand by their sale and installed a new carburetor at no charge. Veteran run local business that earns it reputation by doing things correctly. Worth even a few extra dollars because if you have a problem they stand with you instead of against you. This is the way businesses should be run!!!
