Where should I begin? First, I am not the handiest person in the world. So this morning after my garage door would not rise I consulted the computer for a quick troubleshoot. Opener has power… CHECK. The laser eyes are properly aligned… CHECK. So now we assume that something mechanical is a rye. I go online to use my home warranty for the first time in two years. I know for sure that the $ 100 will be well spent and we’ll have the usage of our garage back in no time flat. Well, a portion of that statement is correct. ABC Overhead was assigned and I was contacted quickly for an appointment time. Joe was the technician that would handle my call and he arrived in the two hour window that was initially provided. So far, the service had been exemplary. That is when the rug got pulled. Joe determined that both springs needed to be replaced and asked for the $ 100 fee. Okay, no problem. I inquired what the cost might have been without home warranty. He confirmed it would have been $ 265. Cool, I am saving $ 165. Then he came back from his truck and advised that my home warranty company(American Home Shield) had denied the claim even though I had coverage for the garage door opener. HUH? I went in the house and called the company. I was told that anything defined as the door OR the garage door assembly was excluded.(I swallowed HARD and I proceeded to bend over) Folks, I have been an insurance professional for the past thirty years. I know a loophole when I see one. So, now I was expecting that the job would now cost me the $ 265 Joe had mentioned. I tell Joe that even if my home warranty company had STIFFED me I still needed the work to be done. He completes the work and he did a FANTASTIC job. The well oiled door is working quietly and humming like a car after a well needed tune up and alignment. I ask if I can pay via credit card and he states that the company would charge me an extra 3%. Okay, so I will write you a check for the difference of $ 165. No, he says the job is $ 265 and the service fee of $ 100 was for ABC to diagnose the problem. REALLY? Am I the first person to ever get shot down for the springs on a home warranty policy? This experienced garage door technician who has been in the valley since at least 2007 could not have been more clear AFTER the denial of coverage. «You do realize sir, that when and IF the work is performed I will STILL charge you $ 265»? Not a peep was uttered or heard. Not only that, I have learned that there are plenty of garage door companies in the valley that normally will change the springs for $ 200 out the door. Basically, ABC has charged me double and used a technical justification as the Vaseline. How do these shysters sleep at night? Be AWARE and forewarned. Not only is the home warranty issue a sham but the cost we were charged for the work was excessive. Make sure you call around and obtain various quotes to protect yourselves. I definitely learned a couple of lessons today and one is that I will never call or refer ABC Overhead ever again. Sorry for the book people but I am PEEVED!

These people are wonderful! Was having trouble with my garage door opener, called them and had a new garage door opener installed by that afternoon! Price was very reasonable. Have never had to use a garage door company so I can’t compare ABC to anyone else, but don’t need to. They are really good!(Think the name of the company has been changed now, but still under the same mgt. as before. Phone # has NOT changed)
