I came here because it was on evening magazine and I was not that greatly impressed. We ordered a hickory burger which was meh. It was probably one grade up from a McDonald’s burger. We then got the bbq sweet potato fries in a large and they gave us barely anything that resembled a large. The fries were pretty good, good seasoning. Then we got the tiger shake and the miso butterscotch. Both shakes were nothing special. You can find better shakes elsewhere for a cheaper price too. Overall I would not go back.

I have eaten here twice like the burgers and the service. The meat is fresh and real burger. Would like to be able to have a good old fashion burger though cheddar and mayo with bacon. Nonetheless I like their food

The shakes are by far the only reason to go, they are amazing! Strawberry banana is my ultimate favorite. Burgers are just okay, greasy and messy. I’ve been in a handful of times and each time the cashier staff seem like they are being inconvenienced by actually having to work. Could use a change of attitude. Wouldn’t be a place to rave about if those shakes weren’t so good!

The shakes are awesome and the staff are equally cool. Be patient because the lines to order can take a little time… but definitely worth the wait

The classic deluxe burger was really good. Fries were thin and crunchy. Awesome tarter sauce. Only negative is it looks cheap but every little thing you add is extra. My boyfriend and I shared a large fry and each had a burger and it was $ 18. We didn’t even get a drink or anything else.

Thus burger/shake place is pretty cute, although there is only street parking. Our burgers tasted fresh and the spinners(root beer float or orange cream sicle) were delicious. We also ordered large fries to spilt. I liked that they we real shoe string made with actual potatoes– you can even see the skin on them. At first it seemed that they would not be enough for me and my boyfriend to share, but we were so full between the burger and spinner(plus the included refill) that we even had fries left over! This never happens, usually they are the first to go. The waitress was friendly and the ambience was 50’s style. I enjoyed the meal, but since it’s out of the way for me I probably will come in once a blue moon for a good burger.

Great place for a burger and fries and shake. I got the hickory burger which was a tad messy but great. The Smores shake is popular now and it really tasted great. The diner looked like something from the 50s. It was really a fun place.

The burgers fries and tots are just wonderful. But the shining stars here are the milkshakes! They have a whole bunch of fun and interesting flavors, as well as the classics. We tried the seasonal s’mores shake and the Tiger Shake. The Tiger shake was by far my favorite! It’s Almond Roca & salted caramel! Needless to say it was amazing! I can see many trips to eat here in the very near future! Especially now that we know they have outdoor seating for summer! :)

I was a chef for a LONG time, which I say only to establish the fact that I know quite well what the problem is when a restaurant doesn’t perform up to even the minimum standards of food service. I also make better hamburgers at home than I’ve ever had in public, so I admit to being pretty hard to please. In the case of Shake, Shake, Shake, though, a 12 year old could have told you what was wrong. We had heard a couple of okay reviews of this joint and we love hamburgers and were passing by, so we decided to try it. It was about noon on a warm, sunny Sunday and my wife, who is wheelchair bound, asked if we could sit out in the restaurant’s back yard — not«patio» or «deck» but a fenced lot with gravel paths, across an alley from their back door, with no shade except at maybe three of the ten tables. I walked in, read the menu, went back out and told my wife what was available. I went back in and spent 25 minutes standing in line to get to the cashier to **place** our order. I ordered and went outside. And we waited… another 20 minutes. Now, we’re at 45 mniutes in and our shakes arrive. I actually wanted the shake with the meal but, by then, we were grateful that we were getting anything at all. The server asked if we also had food coming and we said yes. She agreed to go check on it… and we never saw her again. Five other tables that arrived after we did did the line and got served their meals… while we continued to wait. We waited another 25 minutes and still no food. The restaurant is busy, so I’m REALLY trying to be patient. Finally, 50 minutes after placing our order and an hour and 15 minutes after we arrived, heat made me snap. I walked back inside, carrying the plastic number thay had assigned, and stood in the server’s station. A counter worked asked if she could help me and I handed her the number. «I need to check on this,» I said. «Oh, I’m sure it’s coming soon!» she chirped. «No,» I replied, «Soon has already passed. I need to see if you have this ready now.» She went off and talked to another woman at the kitchen door. They talked for several minutes. The other woman went into the kitchen and checked. She returned and spoke to the counter lady, who came back and said, «They’re working on it right now. Would you like a free shake?» «No,» I replied, «I had a shake. What I need is our food.» Now, we’re at 58 minutes. This is a BURGERJOINT, remember, not a white tablecloth restaurant. People eat at burger joints because they’re fast. Finally, an hour and six minutes after we placed the order, she came back with a bag. «Now,» I said, «I’d like to speak to your manager, please.» She had a phone in her hand and she called the manager, a woman named Nina. I spoke to Nina and told her that, in 30+ years running restaurants of all types, I had NEVER had a customer wait an hour for ANY order and suggested that, if they were not capalbe of producing their food in a decent time, they might not want to have so many seats available. Nina apologized and said I should tell the woman I was talking with to give me my money back. She was talking to the cashier and I walked over. «Nina says for you to refund my money.» They looked through the tickets and handed me $ 15. «The total charge was $ 22 and change,» I replied. «Did you get your shakes?» the cashier smirked. «Yes,» I replied. «Did you drink your shakes?» she sneered. «YOUR manager said for you to give me my money back,» I replied, «She did not say anything about negotiating.» She sighed and rolled her eyes theatrically and started digging through the tickets. Finally, I had enough. «You know what? Never mind. Keep it.» And walked out. The burgers were dry and had obviously not been assmbled fresh off the grill. The buns were standard food service pasty messes that fell apart. The«special hickory sauce» was ketchup, mayo, and liquid smoke flavoring. The bacon was thin enough to read through. And the onion rings were even worse. If it were possible, here, to give a rating in negative numbers, I would go as low as I could. I know some people may be just fine with crap burgers served cold and very slowly. I’m not. I know how long it should take a kitchen to turn out a burger like that and the fact that they couldn’t indicates that they’re trying to serve too many people and their kitchen isn’t capable. This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have had since moving to Washington, 24 years ago and is easily the worst of my time in Tacoma, which is crawlin’ with really good restaurants. They still owe me seven bucks and I’ll never collect because I’ll never set foot in the place again. Disgusting.

Stopped into this cute retro-looking restaurant. I even snapped a shot of their bathroom sink, cuz it was cute! I ordered a bacon hot dog with bbq sauce and onions – not something I typically order, so I found it a little greasy, but the shake was truly scrumptious! I ordered the banana brulee and it was was kind of a cinnamon-y banana flavor – so good. If I stopped in again, I’d skip the food, but the shakes are worth driving out of the way for.

I was very skeptical at first, it seemed like a gimmick, with their hip retro signs and triplicate name. Time has proven me wrong however, and now I feel like an old fool for not giving something new a chance. They have the most authentic old-school burgers in Tacoma, even better than Frisko Freeze — and their service puts FF to shame. If you’re a fan of onion rings, like I am, this is the place for you. They make them by hand, the real way. Keep in mind that when it gets really busy, hand dipped onion rings are a pain in the ass to make. I like to go at about 4 o’clock in the afternoon for an early dinner, that’s when I know everything will be carefullly produced. The burger is the burger you want. The crust on the edges of the meat is perfect. Shreds of iceberg lettuce crunch between your teeth as the fat and secret sauce comingle with the soft bun. It is a real bun, not one of those fancy artisan mouth shredders that you need a steak knife to get through. They even have beer! And outdoor seating! And cool murals and lights!!! If you want a burger in Tacoma, this is the place to check out for sure.

I have always heard of this place but have never gone until one day some friends suggested we are here. I am so glad they mentioned this place as the burgers here are phenomenal! Walking in it reminds me of an older diner and am immediately transported to a simpler time. Very rarely will I comment on an establishments bathrooms, but this place has very clean and unique restrooms. I was expecting something more dingy, run down, and dirty, but this place really prides themselves on appearances. Another plus is that this place offers vegetarian options and they are equally as good, which was good to be able to take my girlfriend(the vegetarian), to the same place I(the meat eater) can go to grab a burger. I have only been once, but I can not wait to go again!

The strawberry milkshake was amazing! The burger, on the other hand, was bland and over cooked in some areas. They charged me $.70 for a 4oz cup of honey mustard which was absurd. The wait was also long. The young lady at the register wasn’t the least bit friendly. It was difficult to park in the vicinity of the diner and inside it was pretty run down(tables were scratched up and worn). I personally won’t be back.

I love this place. It’s not far from frisko freeze and both are an excellent choice for burgers, hot digs, and if course, shakes. Shake(x3) has fantastic indoor and outdoor eating areas, awesome décor, and cold beer.

I’ve been to this place before as my sister lives in the area, and almost every time I’ve been disappointed in some way. First of all, I got a burger w/bacon(only 89 cents extra), a small order of tater tots, an order of sauce(69 cents), and a regular shake and it was 18DOLLARS. I literally had to ask the cashier what the price was again because I thought she misspoke or miscounted my order. But no, I added up all the things I got and it was legitimately 18 dollars. After ordering I waited about 30 minutes for my food(which I ordered to-go). I wouldn’t have been very upset if the food was great. I open the burger from its wrapping and it’s a mess, and as soon I begin to eat it it LITERALLY falls apart in my hands. The tater tots are extremely salty and smooshed from the bag. The shake was pretty good though and came out in a good time. I would eat here again, but not voluntarily.

First of all the lady that was taking orders wasn’t very friendly, and so this claims to be an inexpensive place but it cost $ 30 for a large fry, a kids cheeseburger the smallest mushroom burger I’ve ever seen, tater tots and a shake. The service isn’t great, my mushroom burger came out wrong. And I could not believe how tiny the french fries were for $ 5.

I wanted a burger before visiting the Copper Door. Love the Old Retro feel when you walk in. And I like the Order first and we bring you your food dynamic. Sitting around the bar was cool. Ordered up a Strawberry shake and a Burger with fries. It takes a bit for your food but its being made fresh so no complaint there. This is no run of the mill Mcdonalds. And the Wait shows in the taste and quality of the burger. It was held together nicely. And was juicy and Medium well just how I prefer it. Lots of seating and they serve beer and the employees are all friendly.

It’s a cute place. Sit at the counter or in a retro dinning set. You order when you walk in and then take a seat… they deliver the goods once it’s ready. You can sub any burger to a veggie patty for $ 1 but would like to also see veggie dogs on the menu. The food is salty, typical of a fast food establishment. The shoestrings fries were very good. They also had tots, onion rings, and sweet potato fries. They had lots of Shake flavors and even serve alcohol, score! The veggie burger was decent and had visible veggies like olives and mushrooms in the patty but the taste typical of any store bought brand. Had a bottled Coke to finish off the meal. Will come back to try the shakes for sure!
