While this is by far the smallest Macy’s in the area, you can find some deals here. I do recommend shopping during a sale event though as their regular prices are a bit high. I do not enjoy clothes shopping. I never have. I’m difficult to fit and it is just a frustrating experience. I had been dreading shopping for a dress for my niece’s upcoming wedding and had put it off as long as I could. I spent two days going to every Macy’s, Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, etc. in the area looking for something that was even passable and didn’t cause me to breakdown in a fit of laughter in the dressing room. Easier said than done, believe me. I narrowed it down to three candidates, two of which were from this store. The winner was a $ 119 cocktail dress that I got on sale for… drumroll please… $ 19. Yes, $ 19. It cost more to have it shortened than the dress cost. I added a little black jacket to go over it for $ 17 and was good to go. I honestly thought my outfit would be costing me hundreds, but Macy’s saved the day. As is the norm in any department store, I have run into very nice helpful employees and also some that acted like they were doing you a favor. I’ll continue to shop here… during a sale.

This Macy’s is only one of two department stores in Swansea Mall(Sears being the other one). Since Macy’s bought all the regional department stores in the nation, including Filene’s I no longer shop any Macy’s. Still, I enjoy walking through this store recalling many shopping memories when this location was a Jordan Marsh. The store’s interior has not really changed since the Jordan Marshall construction. Ironically, the original white walls, white marble tile, and green carpet are colors still used in new department stores today. Only the well worn carpets, cracked unpolished floor tiles, and stained ceiling tiles hint at the décor’s original age. Like most Macy’s needed refurbishments are not a high priority. Still, a few years ago Macy’s did refurbished the restrooms shiny tile floors and walls and new fixtures which have remained cleaned and well maintained. As for product mix the Macy’s never reopened the china and fine gift ware department which Jordan Marsh had closed. Surprisingly since their closest competitor with those wares, Apex in the mall, closed a decade ago. As for other items the store carries high end women purses and fragrances for both genders and the name brand sport ware, Polo, etc. The store never seems extremely busy but the staff seem friendly and willing to help. I rate this store two star but bump it up to three for sticking in the mall on the decline.

Again, no luck using an online coupon — sales associate said it won’t work with jewelry — sure doesn’t say that on the coupon! This is at least the 3rd time that I have walked out without buying what I wanted :(

I have never regained confidence in Macy’s and I am going to contact their corporate offices and tell them just that. As all my friends and family know, I stopped shopping at Macy’s because of a horrible encounter with a Macy’s employee by the name of Susan Roche in the Swansea, Massachusetts store. Although I thought I was more specific in my review about my experience, I was not. I would like to add just a bit of information to my original review. My GPS directed me to the Swansea, Massachusetts store when I was driving from Fairhaven, Massachusetts to my home. I needed a price adjustment on several items that I had purchased a couple of days before. It was a Macy’s sales associate who had alerted me to the sale where I would be able to get the price adjustment. I only ended up at this store because my GPS(who I rely on greatly) indicated that it was the closest Macy’s. Upon my arrival, I explained to the associate what I was hoping to do. She made a telephone call and when done, she informed me that it wouldn’t be possible to do it. Not knowing why, I asked to speak to a manager. That is when I had the incredible displeasure of meeting Susan Roche. Things went down hill very quickly from there. Simply can’t get out of head that Ms. Roche decided not to finish chewing her mouth full of food before she came out to greet me. Ugh!!! Aside from that visually unattractive experience, she treated me like I was the thief that she and the rest of the store had been on the lookout for. Among the extremely rude remarks that Ms. Roche made to me were: — Why did you choose this store? Why didn’t you go back to where you initially made your purchase? — Is there any reason why you can’t return it to that store instead of ours? — That was Security I was just on the telephone with. We were discussing you and the transaction that you are attempting to make and why you don’t want to go back to the store in North Attleboro where you made the original purchase. — Our Security Department agrees with me – we really should not be permitting this transaction here and you really should go back to the North Attleboro store to have this done. — This isn’t the type of transaction we usually do. — We’ll end up losing out with this transaction. — I’ll do it for you this time, but just remember, we don’t usually do this kind of thing. And these are only the remarks that I can recall. Getting the picture? Oh yeah! It took me a couple of minutes, but I finally realized that Ms Roche was clearly trying to imply that I was attempting to do something underhanded. First of all, I was not trying to return ANYTHING!!! I was merely attempting to get a price adjustment, which ended up amounting to a meger $ 20 something dollars, which I ended up spending right there in that Macy’s. My complaints to Macy’s about this employee have gone unanswered, but my email campaign has been very successful, with SEVERAL of my family and friends saying that they will never shop at Macy’s again.

Macy’s is good for a few things: If you want«high end» brands of perfumes, toiletries, bedding, and the like.. . this is your place. Its really one of the few places I can think of in this area that you would have access to these kind of things. You can get high end stuff in Providence and Boston but one is slightly limited in this neck of the woods. Macy’s is also great if they are having a sale! Otherwise I’d steer clear of their overpriced merchandise. The only times I’ve purchase items from this store are during their numerous sales. Most recently I purchased a 12-piece non stick pots and pans set for $ 40.. . discounted from $ 100 for a Spring Sale!!! Not bad at all. Before that, I recall getting a $ 80 cocktail dress for $ 12 on clearance for my work’s winter holiday gala. What a steal! If you are willing to wait and be patient during the savings rush, you’ll be sure to find a great deal. Otherwise the store is just so damn expensive. I’d rather hit up the Sears or Walmart located in this same mall(Swansea Mall). Just your basic department store.. . I do a lot of Christmas shopping here during the holidays. Store seems to be doing okay despite the disappearance of many others up and down the mall strip.
