I won’t buy coffee anywhere else. You don’t go here to have a long chat over a cup of coffee. You don’t come here to set up your lap top and have people watch you work on your novel. This is the place to pick up a bag of beans, roasted to perfection right there in house. Picking up an ice coffee is also a good option here, and you won’t be disappointed. The beans can be a little pricey, but i can vouch that this is the best coffee you can pay for.

Delicious coffee, fair prices and wonderful customer service. Forget Dunkin’ Donuts forget Starbucks and come here for the real deal.

Small roaster with no hipsters and good prices. They use frozen coffee cubes in the ice coffee and its quite cheap, would be double anywhere else.

I love this place. Best coffee in NYC. I believe it(«the best coffee in NYC») is a Brazillian expresso blend. Small shop.

Yeah, this place is old school alright. Great if you want a cup to go, because with no seating, that’s the only option. Unless… wait, there’s one small table with three chairs. But alas, the owner will not allow any customers to sit there(even though it’s empty). Apparent that’s his special table? Um, no, I think not. Dear Mr. Old School: people won’t always remember what you say, but they won’t forget their first impression. There’s equally good neighborhood coffee within a block; try stopping by to see what hospitality looks like.

I miss this place soooo much. I lived in Sunnyside for several years and this is the best iced coffee anywhere. I’m sure all their coffee drinks are good, but once I had the iced coffee, I never got another beverage from them, ever. I can’t wait for it to warm up again so I can go back!

I’m only coming in here for their iced coffee. Its got to be the most refreshing drink during hot summers. Their blends are very fresh and rich in flavor. They don’t just throw in regular iced cubes in their iced coffee. It’s iced cappuccino cubes! Very delicious!

I asked what their best selling roasted whole beans were, and they said it was their house blend, at $ 9 a pound. I bought some to compare against the competition, namely Parrot Coffee’s beans and some Lavazza«Tierra!» beans that I bought online. It blew both competitors out of the water. Absolutely amazing coffee at a great price. This is the best coffee I’ve ever had.

Store smells great, excellent iced coffee. $ 2.80 for the smaller of the two iced coffee choices, there are only two size options. I can drink the iced coffee without milk or cream, it is strong and usually takes me hours to finish it. Highly recommend.

I love this place. Very authentic, old school place. Excellent quality coffee, great service, friendly family run owners. It’s a real gem. Only downside is the set up. No place to sit an enjoy your beverage. And despite some obvious efforts to dress the place up, it doesn’t feel so much old world as just plain old. Still, having a roaster in the neighborhood is *amazing*. I love coming by when I need a delicious cuppa joe on the run.

This place is a bit of a walk for me. Actually, I have to go past two different Dunkin’ Donuts on my way to Baruir’s. But I heard it was good, so I decided it was worth the trek to check it out. It’s a really cool little store. I’ve spent the summer alternating between making my own coffee at home using their whole beans(which are reasonably priced and you can see the roasting machine they use sitting right there, so you know it’s super fresh) and walking over there to get the iced coffee with coffee ice cubes when I’m feeling really indulgent. They have an assortment of other neat-o things in there which I haven’t fully explored yet, so even if you don’t like coffee, there’s sure to be something that interests you. But here’s why I’m really writing this review. Today is my last day of summer break, so I decided that warranted something special. I was like, «Treat yo self, girl! You deserve those coffee ice cubes.» I went to the grocery store first, then walked to Baruir’s. Unfortunately, I timed it a little wrong and arrived around 8:52am even though they don’t start business until 9am. Oops. However, the owner was there already, opening things up. I apologized for being early and he kindly brushed it off, saying it was fine, when really he could’ve been a jerk about it or made me wait outside for another 10 minutes. He got a couple things out on the counter while I petted the sweet little kitty that resides there. After getting my iced coffee, I told him to keep the change and he said, «No! There are quarters! Those are good, you should take them.» Then we chatted for a few minutes about how today was a holiday, the last real day of summer, when the best time to take vacations is, etc. He was so nice and I feel like it set such a positive tone for the rest of my day(when I otherwise might be moping about having to go back to work tomorrow). I guess when you’ve been in business for 49 years, you develop really good skills for bonding with the folks in the neighborhood. :) Even if you have to walk past multiple DDs to get here, it’s totally worth the effort. Trust me, I know from personal experience.

I will go never go anywhere else to buy my coffee. As a first time customer I was given a choice of coffee samples because the owner felt it was important for me to enjoy the coffee I bought. Do not leave without the coffee ice cube ice coffee– it is better than any ice coffee I have ever tasted!

A really lovely dried goods and coffee shop with friendly owners whose attitude towards customers really show their devotion to their business. Cheap, wonderful home-roasted coffee. And a friendly cat walking around the store :) Could not wish for more continued success for them.

«Our coffee is SO good that we can use generic soda cups for our Iced Coffees, close on Sundays, and not open until 9:00am daily, and STILL not have any pretentiousness about us.» That is what I think about Baruir’s! A true Queens/New York City experience. It’s more like a small Euro grocery store with good coffee. A majority of the store has shelves of produce, their own packaged bulgur wheat, dried apricots, currants, nuts, and turkish delights. Their small batched of coffee are only behind the counter. There’s a teeny selection of baklavah and other pastries. Their roasting machine is pretty cool to look at, surprisingly the didn’t smell of coffee when I went on a warm Saturday afternoon. The girl behind the counter knew her beans well and said that the Java blend was the strongest. I’m also told that Swiss Water Decaf blend that they have, is the preferred way to make Decaf, instead of that other way. that I’ve vaguely heard of, that doesn’t leave the decaf coffee tasting very good. A half pound of whole bean Java and a small Iced Coffee(they have Soymilk! No Almond though. & yes it was with those infamous coffee ice cubes) cost me around $ 7. It was strange that the didn’t offer any other drinks at the time(they have espresso, cappucino etc. listed on their teeny menu stuck on the counter. 4:00pm– I was told that they only had regular coffee– it was very good though). There’s a nice grey cat there! There’s also a tiny table in the back, behind the produce, under a TV, with 2 chairs.

Their coffee is the best! They roast the beans and serve you fresh coffee! Conveniently located just off the #7train. They tend to stay open more hours around holidays for your shopping convenience. Lots of imported European foods as well, very old world vibe and nice inside.

This was the first coffee shop(beside Starbucks) that I visited upon moving to Sunnyside recently. And it was so delicious that I even called my family and friends at home in Chicago to tell them about it. I was happy upon walking in to see the beautiful arrangement of coffee dispensers along the wall, and was even more delighted to see the cat hanging around inside – it made the place seem really welcoming and laid-back! I’m now reading the other reviews on here, saying that people wish they would’ve known to bring cash, but the prices were so low that if you have a few bucks on you, you’ll surely be able to get something. Even if you’re usually not one to carry cash around. I do wish, however, that the sizes were a little bigger: I ordered a «medium», and it was a very small cup. Alas, I cannot expect every business to know which customers are new every single time, so I should have asked. That’s my only complaint, though! The place was awesome and I’ll definitely come back again.

I have to say the Hazelnut roast is PHENOMENAL! They also grind your beans to your specifications. I love to stop here for a fresh brew before I hit the 7 train. **A PROTIP: Get a Glazed Donut @ ALPHA Donuts and have it with your hot Hazelnut cup

Is the best coffee in Queens, maybe NY! The staff are awesome and the array of blends are incredible. If you haven’t been to this place yet, what are you exciting for? Bring cash but if you want a cup of coffee it’s around 3 bucks. Ice coffee is great with their coffee ice cubes so the cup actually gets stronger instead of diluted as the ice melts. Support local business!

This is my go-to place to buy coffee grounds for my apartment. The variety is staggering, and the staff is always friendly and more than happy to help you pick out your perfect brew. This place has been around forever, and after you try their coffee — robust and strong — you’ll immediately see why.

Friendly owner. Tongue in cheek made fun of my Café Bene coffee before showing me what REAL iced coffee is(with you know. ice blocks made of coffee). Have me some simple pointers when I told him I’m new to brewing my own coffee at home. He then sent me off with a half pound of their house blend. I might not know coffee(yet), but I sure know friendly service!

Those used to the quality of Stumptown or Gregory’s will probably leave disappointed. For a frugal Jew(relax, I’m a member of the tribe) like me, they get my seal of approval. I’m really picky about my coffee, and I took no exception with Baruir’s. I stopped in to check out their wares and ended up leaving with some delicious Baklava, fresh walnuts, and 2⁄3 of a pound of one of their most expensive coffee’s – Kenyan-AA. My NYC metric is the aforementioned Stumptown, but this was half the price of their roast – for $ 12/lb, it was a bargain. I got a lot of smooth, velvety cocoa flavors when I brewed with my pourover. Nothing outstanding, but pretty damn good for its price point. Next time I go back, I’ll check out the iced coffee everyone raves about. Service was wonderful!

One of the best coffee store and only store in Sunnyside to buy coffee. Every week when they roast their coffee beans you will know it I live a couple of blocks away and when I wake up sometimes, and smell their coffee beans being roasted… I am in heaven, what a way to wake up. I would crave their coffee. I am a coffee lover! Their iced coffee is amazingly delicious and strong. Its better than any of the watered down coffee offered in Sunnyside’s chain coffee places. Their ice coffee is quite unique. I always get their large ice coffee with ½ spoon of sugar and milk in the summer. Their ice cubes are made of coffee, plus they pour cold coffee. How much better can that be? In the warmer weather I do buy their hot coffee. They make a perfect cup of coffee every time. They are always very consistent. What really sucks is that they do not open early in the morning to accommodate morning commuters. I can only get it after work. If you want a coffee press or coffee pot go to Macy’s or bed bath and beyond. If you want great coffee come to Baruir’s Coffee. Their prices are very competitive which is reasonable to me. I also buy their coffee beans from there and they grind it to the coffee machine that I am going to make it in. I usually get their mixed blend. I have never had a bad batch. Always on point. They have the coffee beans pre-packaged ready to grind because they sell out pretty fast. If you are a coffee lover this is the place to go. Just the aroma when walking into their store is so deliciously inviting.

If Starbucks is hell, then coffee aficionados can find a caffeine sanctuary in Baruir’s. For the lack of dedicated coffee shops in a hood as diverse as Sunnyside, Baruir’s stands out for their fantastic coffee products and has been in business for the better part of 40 years. As a guy who doesn’t even really drink coffee, I am definitely impressed with all they have to offer. This is no café, this is more of a coffee shop. There are no places to sit and people watch, only aisles of coffee products ranging from Middle Eastern beans to Latin American roasts. Supposedly, they roast their own beans daily and sell it just as quickly. That said, the giant coffee roasting machine sitting in the room looks pretty awesome. Baruir’s other claim to fame is their coffee ice cubes. It truly is the perfect solution for non-diluted iced coffee and dare I say tastes pretty solid. Prices seem reasonable and the service is always friendly. Even though I’m not one that has a refined coffee palate by any means, I can appreciate what it takes to make some killer coffee. And of course, it always smells wonderful in here. A final bonus: I love the family cat who roams around the place. If only they heard about this:
