Really cool Japanese grocery store in the neighborhood. It’s not really a big store but it’s packed tight. It’s very clean organized store which offers a bit of everything from Japanese cosmetics, fresh cooked foods, seasonings, fresh meats, fresh vegetables, pastries, and snacks(cookies, chips, candy), plus more. Some of their items are pretty interesting. They have a good variety of ramen noodles, either dried or frozen. All of their products are Japanese. They do try their best to post signs with descriptions on some of their products to let you know what you are looking at. The people who work here are really friendly and helpful and will try to answer any questions that you may have. This is really a one of a kind type of store in the neighborhood.

Possibly one of the greatest things to ever open up in Sunnyside — the nearest japanese /asian market would be in Elmhurst. They offer a wide variety of Japanese goodies from onigiri, sushi mats, imported beers, and ready made foods to go. One great tip on this place is that they’re fresh. Items that were made that day would have to sell the same day — if not, they go on discount for 50% off. ^_^ yipeee!

I love that this place exists. Everything they sell is carefully curated and I can always find inspiration there when I don’t know what to make for dinner, which I find impossible at a huge supermarket.

Good sushi, wanted something fast and I walked into a Japanese instant dinner paradise. Noodles, meats, sushi, beer, sodas, anything you want and more.

Each time I’m in the neighborhood, I become even more charmed with Sunnyside, and it’s because of discovering places like Taiyo Foods, a cozy grocery store right across from the post office. Japanese grocery stores are never cheap, but the prices here won’t cause you to raise any eyebrows. There are prepared foods, a household section, pantry staples such as noodles, and even a little produce and meat. I was able to pick out some snacks from the wide selection. The fellow ringing up my purchases was nothing but pleasant and polite. Amazingly, Taiyo Foods is open daily from 10 – 10 too. If only I lived nearby!

Amazing but small Japanese store which does offer a lot considering the size. They offer drinks, snacks even daily bento right in your back yard a must see if you live in the area.

I love this place. Great selection of Japanese products, and even a nice assortment of beers(beyond Sapporo and Kirin Ichiban). Good customer service, too.

This place is awesome. They serve some hot food, frozen treats, and have tons of japanese grocery items. Even if you’re just looking for a snack or need a specialty item for something you’re making, this place is great to have in town. I plan on coming here to load up on my spices and sauces.

A little gem discreetly tucked away on the quiet side of a block right by a bustling Queens Boulevard. I came here on my brother’s word, and I left with a tasty handroll and onigiri. There’s no other place quite like it literally in the area. I’m going to be a regular for sure!

This place is really cool! Its a little all-Japanese convenience mart. It’s like something straight out of Japan. They have all awesome Japanese products from food(of course) to home and beauty products. I always get their prepared foods, which are very good, and around 8pm when they are all 25% off! I also get frozen Mochi ice cream, which is awesome as well. This place is very unique and I’m so glad its here!

Errrrythang. This place is errrythang for the Asian Americans who get down with lunch plates, mochi ice cream, hella sushi and lots of packaged As-Am must-haves. It’s affordable, an easy grocery to navigate, rarely super over-whelmingly crowded. This place is one of the golden spots in Sunnyside. A staple to Queens, New York. I love this hidden place and usually stop by after work to pick up dinner. They have 25% off hot food items which is a bargain… think soft shell crab rolls for like $ 5(+tax). They also stock a range of bento boxes and bowls for around $ 7 too. My neighborhood gem

Love this store! Super friendly employees and a good stock of beauty products(which are cheaper here than I’ve ever seen online) from brand like Hada Labo, sweets and snacks(yes to Green Tea KitKat). Don’t forget to try the red bean pastries, and the jam-filled kitten shaped ones.

Hidden Gem In Queens I almost didn’t want to write a review cause too many people might know Don’t hate me for it it tho, the place is legit, we’ll start with the Dozens of hot food you can here– beef bento boxes, chicken bento, onigiri and Even Oyakodon(chicken/egg rice bowl) and Gyūdon(beef rice bowl) is available Now the goodies don’t stop from there, I do have to especially mention about the Green Tea Kitkat and the Green Tea sandwich there, YUMM! I think they are pretty Exclusive around the area and you won’t even find them in Chinese markets Most of the snacks here are imported, I especially like the fish sausages! In the last aisle, there are the refrigerated goods like noodles/ramen/, etc Next to it is the spice, from your soy sauce to the rare furikake rice seasoning! Quit looking at the price because they are very reasonable Unlike many other Asian supermarket, cashiers are friendly and always smile! Enter this place and get ready to get real excited! Everything here is great– from your hot food to the service. Now I wish Queens have more places like Taiyo Foods so I don’t have to drive or Swim across the Hudson River to Mitsuwa no more!

Great locally owned Japanese specialty grocery in Sunnyside. The prices are very competitive especially for a place in the NYC area. They have all the japanese ingredients that you need along with specialty snacks(even Green Tea Kit Kats). I like the hot items they have, especially the Karage(essentially Japanese chicken nuggets) which is a great cheap snack!

3.7 Undoubtedly, Taiyo Foods is one of its kind in the area. A conbini*-like store(i.e. convenience store) out of the ordinary around as it carries all things Japanese you need, and the ones you don’t know you need**. I found myself regularly at Taiyo to get some essentials like rice, tea or nori. Regularly too, I found myself spending quite a bit of time browsing around and giving a try to other things. The variety of snacks all kinds their carry looks infinite. As well as noodles, or instant ramen. There is sauces and spices and a small aisle dedicated to some beauty products. Also available some small dishes in the fridge like onigiri, grilled fish, small salads and so on. Definitely, grab a beer package before you go. The selection is quite good and unique. Perhaps my favorite aisle of all. Then, you are all set. I found myself into a shopping routine at Taiyo already. The service is courteous and friendly. The closing time is 10 pm everyday and credit cards are accepted over $ 10. However, I also find that due to business type exclusivity at the moment we may overlook the fact that is neither well priced or that exclusive or carries that infinite variety of things. And so I realized while shopping at Katagari in Manhattan*** or the Food Bazaar supermarket located reasonably near by. I was particularly surprise to find cheaper items in Manhattan. On the other hand, the available space is far to be comparable and Taiyo may expand sometime in the future. This being said, I definitely like it and will keep coming back as long as I am around. * ** ***

This Japanese restaurant is the best thing to happen to queens. Saves soooo much time, not having to reach out far to grab some good japanese stuff. I pretty much get everything I need for home groceries here, besides meat and fish. The place is small and only 3 aisles, I wish really wish they can expand it. I am very fortunate to have this within walking distance to where I currently live. Nice variety of snacks, sweets and treats. Staff is very helpful and friendly, very nice setting and they even give out samples at times, very generous of them. Not many places do that these days… I give this place full ups and stars…

I’m forever grateful for the Korean mart in my neighborhood, but I’ve always yearned for a Japanese mart more. Having tirelessly traveled miles and miles for years – just to go to a Japanese mart – frankly, I’m getting tired. You can imagine the excitement on my face when I heard a Japanese mart opened nearby. and within walking distance! Sadly, I’ve never been to Ariyoshi but kudos to them for making a girl’s wish come true. Walked here with a childhood friend and as soon as we walked in, we went apeshit. Sure, we grew up with Han Ah Reum, Long Cheng, and the now-defunct Wing Fook Sing(which belonged to a friend’s parents) with a mix of different Asian snacks, but none of them Japanese-focused. We really danced like we were in one of our elementary performances as soon as we opened that door; it felt like a piece of Tokyo. Nothing bad about this place. None at all. Pricing is reasonable and cheap, They literally have everything: green tea Kit-Kats, Ramune, Yakult, Pocari Sweat, fruits and veggies, and they even have onigiri! Some of the snacks are imported directly from Japan, which is a plus, since most of them are manufactured in the states. If you make a purchase of $ 10, they will give you a free can of Ito En green tea. Nothing better than that. Wonderful, warm staff, and a cute shop. Granted they don’t have everything you’ll find at Mitsuwa, but if you only want basics, this is the place!

Cute little Japanese grocery. Right now they have plenty of staples such as a variety of rice and noodles, packaged meals, Japanese cosmetics and toiletries. I They also have miniature Japanese cakes and pastries. Thin sliced beef and a well stocked frozen section. I overheard the cashier telling someone they are adding sushi as well. «Taiyo is being launched by Hiroshi Hatasaki, who owns Ariyoshi Japanese Restaurant on Queens Blvd, and Toshiaki Takahashi, a Woodside resident.» –Sunnyside post
