Been on Sullivan’s Island all week and this seems to be the only place open in the morning. My classic egg sandwich was excellent! Good selection of craft beers. Friendly staff. Wish I had discovered it earlier in the week.

Awesome fresh, healthy choices! I went with a California Turkey sandwich and it was definitely the best sandwich I’ve ever eaten. Smoked turkey, sprouts, tomato, bacon & avocado on perfectly light & toted wheat bread. Amazing. Also had an iced coffee & I’m not sure who their roaster is, but it was great. You’d never know how cute and eclectic it is from the outside, but this place is definitely somewhere I’ll come back to. If you want to avoid the crowds at Poe’s, come here. Parking was super easy to find too. All in all, a great little hole-in-the-wall deli/small grocer.

Got the caprese sandwiches, root beer and their coffee blend. Everything was magical and their customer service was phenomenal. Will definitely eat here again next time I’m on Sullivan’s.

This earthy organic sandwich shop is fab. Major selection of homemade hot & cold sandwiches & salads. All fresh very tasty healthy ingredients. A small area to sit inside but you can also sit outside. Parking outside the door. Love this spot. Great place to grab a bite & take it to the beach. They also have wines & beers.

The Co-op is a must-go whenever on Sullivan’s island. Coffee and food are great, but let me tell you the staff are what make it. Sarah’s a real gem and I can only hope everyone has the pleasure of meeting her.

I can’t understand why this place gets high reviews. We stopped in here to pick up lunch and sundries to take to the beach. Our first mistake was thinking this was an actual co-op with a selection of food for purchase. What we found was a tiny selection of crackers and specialty items drastically overpriced. They don’t even sell whole fruit! I asked about a banana and was told they only sell the cut up fruit in the case. We ordered sandwiches, also overpriced, that were fairly bland on very dried-out bread. How can a place that specializes in sandwiches, and in theory makes a lot on any given day, have dry bread??? We were there on a busy summer Saturday and they should have been going through enough bread that all the bags were newly opened. Save your money and stop at a regular grocery store on your way to the beach.

So we didn’t get any food here so I can’t speak to that(although the reviews from others look promising). We stopped in after a day at the beach for some drinks and a bottle of wine. The wine selection was small but covered the main types(genres? flavored? whatever they are called). The woman who worked there was very nice and complimented our selection by telling us some information about it. We also grabbed a few glass bottle sodas to drink. They were nice and cold and there was several flavor options. Based on service, atmosphere and drinks, I think this place is wonderful.

Staff was not friendly or welcoming. Sandwiches are very mediocre and overpriced. If you’re paying $ 10 a sandwich then you would expect a more substantial and meaty sub not to mention my roll was soggy. When checking out the clerk offered tap water for 50 cents a cup. I find this absurd, every food and beverage establishment should offer tap water for free.

The island ‘general store’ is a gem. Coffee is by Charleston Coffee Roasters and is fresh everyday. They have a great selection of breakfast sandwiches and the deli lunches are fantastic. Also have a great craft beer selection and a decent wine collection to choose from. It’s a great selection so you don’t have to leave the island for a few provisions!

What a surprise… Amazing little sandwich shop… Delicatessen… Great selection of local finds. Fresh food… Friendly faces… Comfortable, casual… I had the meat lovers breakfast sandwich with perfectly fried eggs and tipped with thick sliced applewood bacon and white American cheese on the freshest wheat bread ever. Lingered with a friend over coffee with no rushed feeling. A great spot. Don’t miss it!

We came by the co-op on the way to the beach for a quick bite. We debated getting our sandwiches and taking them to the beach, but they have a small bar/sitting area(both inside and out) so we decided to eat at the outside bar. We did this for a couple reasons. One we didn’t have to risk anything flying away at the beach, and two they sold single beers(I’ll talk about this later). I have to say, the grocery area is great. I’d assume that it would be a god send for any beach house renters. The sandwiches were good but a little under seasoned /bland in my opinion, but I’m also the guy that puts hot sauce on everything. Having said that I’m sure it was a much healthier sandwich than I would have gotten somewhere else. So to reason number two that we ate there. The single beers. Unfortunately, it did not say, «You can not drink beer on the premises,» so I open our beers to sip while we waited on our sandwiches. We were then told that they did not have the proper license for consuming beer on the premises. We ended up having quickly pour the beers in to 10 oz coffee cups, so we didn’t get the owners in trouble. This then put the liability of an open container on us, and since not all the beer would fit in our cups we had to pour out some of our slightly pricey single beers. That is really my only complaint. Owner/Management are friendly, and I hope the best for this place. Word on the street is they’re seeking a license to serve beer not just sell it, so this will make this place even better. Quick and easy and parking is much easier than the places when you first get on the island.

Yay for having an option for a deli fresh sandwich(with gluten-free bread options available) while on Sullivan’s Island! A group of us stopped into the Co-Op before heading to the beach one Friday morning and got delicious deli sandwiches, cold drinks, and chips and snacks for the beach. I have celiac disease and am very sensitive, and I ordered a sandwich on gluten-free bread. I told them my allergy and asked if they could change their gloves and use a separate workspace. «No problem!» they said. Unfortunately, the first time the staff made the sandwich they placed it through the toaster with all the other breads, and used the same bread knife as gluten-bread to slice it. When I asked them about the issues they were happy to remake me a sandwich and were both appreciative of the«extra education» for preparing gluten-free sandwiches in the future. I felt bad about having them remake it but they assured me it was no problem at all. Definitely recommend it for sandwiches on the island!

I have stopped in there 3 times now for a sandwich and I have always walked away with at least 3 or 4 more items than the said sandwich. They have so many cool food and local items for sale, as well as some specialty gourmet items(Tate’s Cookies, some of the best cookies on the planet, from East Hampton NY, come to mind). Service is always friendly and I feel always welcomed when I go there. I see this as a great place to assemble a picnic lunch next summer at the beach!

Always rude. I have tried to go in several times to give them another chance. Service is slow and the staff is ALWAYS rude. They seem to have a nice assortment of products but after the rude service I don’t want to spend any money. It’s unfortunate because I lived on the island and the people that ran the space were incredibly nice and knew everyone’s name. This is a much more up scale shop but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice hospitality. If the staff was just a bit nicer I would pick up food there every time I came to the island. I think the prices are fair. I suppose it’s meant to be a small version of Dean and Deluca but they are certainly nicer in those New York locations. They could also learn a lot from the friendly staff at Caviar and Bananas downtown.

So glad I finally stopped in here. Co-op stocks all sorts of local products I love. I saw Produce and re-wined candles, Haypenny s’mores kits, local cookbooks, glass bottled sodas. They also had veggies, pre-packed foods for the beach and had a deli/sandwich counter. I picked up a Haypenny Smores kit for $ 12.50 and 2 Pellegrinos. We didn’t need anything for the beach but seemed like the options were varied. I would stop here again if I needed a s’mores kit.

In all fairness to The Co-Op, I had a pretty rough experience on 7⁄4. I did receive the following response directly from the owner. I thought the fact that he addressed the feedback directly(and in a timely manner) was a good sign. Maybe there is hope. I’ll give them another shot. Here’s his response below: Apologies on your experience at The Co-Op over the 4th of July. I take full responsibility and agree you and several other customers had a poor experience that morning between 9 – 11. No excuses, we were not prepared or staffed well for the holiday morning rush. I have addressed your concerns w/the staff and things are changing immediately. I take these reviews very seriously and would love to make it right. I’ve let the staff know Jason«from Unilocal» has lunch on us for 3 people. Please grab 3 sandwiches, 3 chips, 3 drinks and whatever baked items you can eat next time you are out on Sullivan’s island. Please give us another shot at your convenience. Sorry again for such a bad experience. Your review will make us stronger in the long run. Please feel free to contact me directly about anything or any other ideas you think could be helpful for our business. Jess Patterson Owner

I had Co-op food for the first time last week. It was catered into our work. We had a wide spread of sandwiches, chips, and desserts. I opted for the Chicken Salad sandwich. It was the perfect portion for me, and everything was made fresh. I enjoyed the Chicken Salad. The taste was spot on, and great texture. The chips that came in were the perfect sidekick to the sandwich. The bread was fresh. We had fresh bean sprouts and veggies to the side to go on our sandwiches. I tried the lemon squares and the chocolate bars that looked like they had an M&M style candy on them. They were Delicious. I’d make the trip out to Sullivan’s to purchase their lunch. I have not been into the store front, but judging by others pictures, its got a great look, and the food will not disappoint. AG

This place really saved me the other day. We were on Sullivan’s Island and I really needed food, about to pass out, dizzy kind of thing. Of course, finding gluten free food is hard anywhere, especially a small area like Sullivan’s or IOP. We stopped because I had a hunch by the name, they may have alternative food there. Sure enough, they had gluten free bagels and rolls and were able to make me a turkey sandwich on the bagel. The sandwich was good, my husband enjoyed his, and they were understanding about my allergy and I didn’t get sick. Reasonably enough priced, about 8.00 for a sandwich. They have a market of vegetables, bread, local items, and a good vibe in there, they were playing some good music. All in all, if I need to go back to the area, I’ll definitely stop back again.
