I didn’t run this race last year, but I ran this year and am back to update my review. I am noticing a trend in the number of stars I give this race each year… Pre-race was fine. The course was well marked, there were enough porta-potties, and packet pick up was easy and quick. Everyone who preregistered got a tech shirt(only men’s sizes, no ladies cut). I ran the 5K and things with the 5K race went smoothly. The course was well marked, and everyone in both the 5K and 15K started together at the same time. I finished my race and enjoyed refreshments like muffins, breakfast burritos, bagels, fruit, coffee, and hot chocolate. That’s where the good parts of this review come end. As I was leaving, I saw some of the 15Kers finishing. There was a new 15K course this year and apparently a course limit that wasn’t advertised. Some 15K runners were approaching the finish and saw the arch being deflated. The timing company did leave the mats out for them, so they officially finished. However, all of those delicious refreshments were gone, awards were over, and most everyone had left. A few course marshals and other runners stuck around, but the race organization itself was basically over and done. It’s not cool for a race to run out of refreshments and basically clean up before everyone finishes. Everyone deserves a good race experience and the feeling of victory to cross the finish regardless of time.

Another year and another great race. Going on for more than 30 years now and starting again this year at the Sullivan’s Island Fire Station, the weather was near perfect for great times, and the course was a decent flat out. The traffic was quite a challenge this year and quite a few near misses once the locals started getting up and about on Saturday morning. Obviously they’re still not used to having anyone else on their island and driving like they haven’t a clue! I like the island, the Posts, and running, but something proactive needs to be done about the traffic! The race is only an hour! All in all, great race and we can’t wait to do it again next year!
