Goodbye Fish Spot! I drove by this past weekend and there was a big yellow sign outside that said available and when I peeked inside, there was no tables, nothing inside. Such a sad weekend for me! They had the best fried shrimp, most perfectly seasoned fried catfish, most amazing seasoned french fries, sweetest home brewed tea that I have ever tasted in my life. The staff was also some of the nicest people from New Orleans that I’ve ever met and it reminded me so much of home. There is still hope that maybe, just maybe Fish Spot is doing BIG renovations and are not closed down for good. But with the yellow sign, empty space, and hearing a phone recording saying that«this number is no longer is service,» I’m not sure how much hope a girl can have. Where else am I supposed to go for the best fried fish and seafood in Stone Mountain? Le sigh.

1st time at this spot. A little off the beaten path in a strip mall. Service and food was excellent. Menu was varied, great place.

Since I live so close to this and because of all its good ratings, I decided to make the .4 mile walk from the nearby gym. First off, if you’re a woman, DONOT walk anywhere in this area. You will get harassed by thirsty ass perverts. I only did it because I didn’t have the car at the time and I thought the short 7 min walk would be worth it. This part of Stone Mountain is sketchier than other parts. Anyways, enough of my foolishness. I finally made it to the College Village plaza and I almost missed it! The sign for The Fish Spot is so small, it’s no wonder that I’ve drove past this place numerous times. It’s tucked away deep inside the corner of the plaza. Good thing this place got all these good reviews otherwise I don’t think they’d have much business. When you enter the place, it’s very, very small with about 4 high top tables and chairs. I ended up ordering the 2 fish tacos that came with w/regular fries and a drink deal. I think it was a lunch special and it was under the 5 for $ 5 deal. Since I checked in on Unilocal,I got a free extra taco with it. I got catfish and tilapia; grilled and blackened. I’m not sure which one I was eating when I got em but they were all good. My only complaint is that there was this yellow spicy sauce inside all of them which basically killed the tacos for me. I’m wondering if they put the sauce in because I asked for hot sauce(since I didn’t have it in my bag) or if all the tacos automatically come with that nasty sauce. Overall, I’d give this place another shot since I’m very forgiving. If I get tacos again, I’ll be sure to ask not to get that sauce again AND I’ll be sure to drive here next time. Update: I went a second time and I got the Georgia Peach BBQ Salmon tacos and it was delicious! Definitely recommend. Also, my fiancé ordered the fried catfish tacos and they fried it really good but that same weird yellow sauce was in it so I think most of the tacos come with it.

Pass on this one I ordered a Po-boy and received tomatoes and some lil shrimp on a hard piece of white bread with a ton of honey mustard.

Right now this best I can do with the stars, will give them another try. I feel like I went late and I ordered the wrong thing. I had the shrimp and grits. The grits were hard, maybe they were cold. Also I had the fish taco that was over powered by there spicy cole slaw. Like I said I will try this place again.

The good news: I live very near TFS. The less good news: I have only been there twice. The regular ol’ news you came here for: The foods taste good! My only real complaint is: fish sandwiches and tacos don’t travel super well, and this is not a dine-in-friendly establishment. They do have a waiting area but the chairs and the table height don’t match, so you could probably not eat there. We live under 2 miles away and the tacos were kinda cold when we got home, and the shrimp spotwich was a little cold. Okay okay one more complaint(damn when did I get so old and curmudgeonly?): the tomatoes on the sandwich were the end parts with all the green core or whatever the hell it is. All sandwich places do this and it makes me so mad. The tacos are tasty and the spotwich was spot-on aside from the maters. Last time I went I thought the batter on the fried options was a little too thick, but it looks like they’ve perfected a lighter coating now. The cornbread was tasty, but it was very sweet and cakelike. I am saving it to have for breakfast with some honey nut cream cheese. Ohh yeaaah. We got in and out for $ 20 including tip, and there were no dishes to wash. If I wasn’t so lazy I’d visit more often, but by the time I put my bra on to leave the house I usually feel like someone should wait on me. With such a short drive and such tasty tacos, I may have to reconsider my policies!

I’m not sure if the Scoutmob(free taco!) is still up and running, but even if it’s not, you should get yourself over to TFS. This place is definitely a to go spot, although they have about four stools lined up along the wall of the galley-style entry/customer area, but don’t be embarrassed if you just want to sit in your car and eat. It’s really too good to wait for the drive home. I had a big lunch of my(free) fried fish taco and a lunch special with two blackened shrimp tacos, fries, and a drink… for only $ 5! Seriously good deal, and the food was so fresh. The fish and the shrimp were cooked just right, still plump and juicy. The batter on the fish was crunchy and flavorful, but not overwhelming. In my defense, I HAD to eat the fish taco immediately, right? Because I didn’t want to drive with it for ten minutes and let the batter get mushy. Once I had the first bite of the fish taco, it was a slippery slope to not inhale the entire meal in the car. It’s that good. The fries were thick and crunchy, the shrimp were fat(although I wish there had been a heavier hand with the blackening spice, which is my only small criticism). And I washed it all down with a can of grape Fanta, which, let’s face it, earns the 5th star all on its own. Nestled between a «Weaves and Braids» on one side and a «Weaves and Braids» on the other side, The Fish Spot might not immediately draw you in with curb appeal, but once you taste the food, you won’t even care.

I found about this spot through a ScoutMob… this place has the best shrimp tacos, shrimp and grits, and fish and shrimp of ANY restaurant in Atlanta metro period. It is a to go spot with a couple stools if you have to eat it there and is in some type of East African hood rich plaza but do not let that stop you, this place is 5 stars. Even took the female I am now seeing there with me and while we were eating back at the crib her fish and grits was so good she was ooohhing and awwwing the whole time while eating it.

Past this place up many times never knowing a good seafood restaurant was back in that lil plaza. I ordered fish & shrimp tacos. Each order came with 3 tacos, 2 fried &1 blackened. Shrimp tacos were good I prefer the blackened shrimp taco over fried. Fish tacos were also good but I prefer fried over the blackened. I had french fries to go with them didn’t really care for the fries, but I like thicker cut fries these were skinny crispy style fries. Seasoned with seasoning salt which I like just not my favorite cut of fries. Also had their banana pudding that wasn’t bad but had better, I like more wafers in my banana pudding personally the more the better. Let me not forget the strawberry lemonade that was good but I drank so fast it was gone b4 my food came out. Overall this place is pretty good and nearby for and for the price I will definitely be back to try other items on the menu. Edited… After looking at others pictures of their fish tacos mine did not have near as much fish or shrimp in my tacos. I posted photos so you can be the judge. I haven’t eaten many seafood tacos so I guess I haven’t had one that really blows my mind yet and would make me order more. I will give this place another try since my house is not far, but I will try the fish fillers I think this time and maybe their gumbo or jambalaya which ever 1 I seen on the menu.

I never thought I’d see the day where you could find tasty, healthy, relatively fast food on Memorial Drive. Drive past the Applebee’s and Dairy Queen’s and make your way to the Fish Spot. Sure, they’re only opened Thursday and the weekend but keep patronizing and maybe they’ll extend their hours! I ordered the whiting grilled with veggies. I got about five pieces of well-seasoned fish, carrots, broccoli and cinammon cornbread. Yum! They even worked with my food allergies. The place itself is cozy and sweet and there’s even a Scoutmob which I’ll use when I return. And I will be returning. For a little over $ 6, I got a home-cooked meal at a fast food price!

Two words: Fish. Tacos. The Fish Spot is your place for tasty and satisfying food. I’ve had the fried combo for two as well as the tacos. The tacos totally sold me. I had 2 grilled tilapia and one fried shrimp, and the fish were my favorites. They were topped with a delicious crispy slaw and remoulade. I wish I had another stomach to eat 3 more. The fried combo was also good. I ordered shrimp and fish. I enjoyed both equally. The fries might have been ok but got soggy on the way home. Finally, be sure to try any of their lemonades or peach tea. They are all amaze balls. The strawberry lemonade is my favorite as it is a perfect blend of sweet and tart. Get there and get those tacos. Stat!

The Fish Spot is a rare new gem that I hope stays that way. Healthy portions, tasty food and that fresh sweet and tart lemonade are all highlights. I generally order the large shrimp platter with chips. Those chips are amazing by the way. The steamed veggies are great too. Overall, the food is great. The owners are amazingly gracious and nice as well. They always make sure you have what you want and need. Support this business! They are one of the few adding some much needed quality food to the neighborhood.

Made it back last night. Tried the grilled catfish tacos. The options were whiting, talapia and catfish. I was greeted by a very nice young lady and the owner was there. The order came with three tacos and they are topped with a slaw and sauce. The pictures accurately reflects them. I have never ordered fish tacos before and was somewhat disappointed. I think it was not a food I enjoy prepared this way. Or perhaps blackened would better suit me. Nevertheless(Does this word still exist?), I found them to be tasty and different. Grilled is a healther option which is also a great perk. I will try something else next time. A cool spot worth checking out.

Learn about The Fish Spot from friends living close to the restaurant and love it. Last Saturday we decided to make the drive and have lunch there. The Fish Spot is in a strip mall, unless you have a GPS you probably won’t find it. They have small space, 4 chairs, primarily a takeout restaurant. We walked in and the owner/chef greeted us and explained everything on the menu. My partner ordered the fried whiting meal; I got the three taco meal: with fried tilapia, grilled tilapia and fried shrimp. Each of the meal was $ 5. We also ordered their fresh cut fries and two drinks. The total was $ 15. I knew about the Scoutmob deal but decided not to bring it up since its already so cheap. To my surprise the owner very honestly asked, «you are going to use the Scoutmob, right?» I was thinking, WOW! After waiting for 10 minutes, we got our cook-to-order food. All our food was delicious. And the portions were very generous! The breading they used was very light and fluffy. The cole slaw on my taco was tangy and full of flavors. I will definitely go back to the Fish Spot, even though the drive is 30 minutes. While we were eating, a lady from the close-by church walked in and thanked the owner for his food donations to the local homeless.

Great fish tacos right down the street! This place is to-go only, but you can call it in or sit and wait. It took about 15 – 20 min, but I don’t mind waiting for good food. I got the three taco plate — grilled catfish, cornbread and a sweet peach tea. Very tasty; a great orange sauce and fresh veggies atop the fish, which was cooked perfectly. I added some Louisiana hot sauce and it was perfect. The peach tea was a sugary delight. The cornbread was good, but I’m not convinced that it’s actually cornbread. The consistency was right, but it tasted more like a spiced pumpkin bread or something. For $ 1 I’m not complaining, though. I used a Scoutmob so it was super cheap! It’s normally only $ 5 for the taco plate though, which is great!

I just want to express my annoyance with their limited hours. Wed til 3pm and essentially only open Thurs, Fri and Sat? :-[ Cmon Son, really??? Is this a Part Time business venture? That aside, the food is GREAT! The blackened fish/shrimp tastes way better than the fried, but then again, who can resist the lure of fried anything? The french fries are plentiful and tasty– I don’t know if they tasted better because they were $ 1, but I took my food home, and by the time I reached home the fries were tepid(luke warm at BEST) they were STILL good, and I don’t like cold food– I ate them all. My adventurous neighbor that everyone thinks is my husband and I went for a quick bite. We ordered the same thing, three tacos, blackened and fried mix of shrimp and whiting. The remoulade/dressing over the veggie mix is delicious, the seasoning is wonderful. We got the strawberry lemonade as well, and it was kool-aid sweet to where you get that tangy kick in the side of your jaw. It wasn’t the BEST way to kick off In It to Thin It, but damn that food was good. Do your fans a favour and keep normal hours. No one closes at 8pm(but judging from where the plaza is located, I’d close at 8pm too, maybe even 4:30pm in the winter), and the people want you more than 3 days a week. 11 – 3 on Wed doesn’t count for anyone with a real job, sorry but no! All in all, even with their sorry business hours, I really really like this place and wish I could support them more, but alas, their hours! AMBIANCE: This place gives a new meaning to hole-in-the-wall. It’s a door, bar to pop-a-squat at while you wait on your order, but more than 4 people in there at the same time feels like a fire hazard. Most people ordered, left, and then came back to collect their food and left. We waited for the food, but were the only ones doing so. It’s a standing room only or grab and go place, but don’t get it twisted, the food packs a helluva punch, and tastes even better because it’s inexpensive!!! #Yelp100

These are the best value tacos I’ve ever encountered with or without the Scoutmob deal. At $ 1.67 a taco, you will receive a massive portion of fish in each taco topped with a proportional amount of the crisp cabbage, lettuce, an carrot slaw with a drizzle of the faintly spicy house remoulade. I tried the whiting, tilapia, and catfish. All were fresh and hot out of the fryer and wrapped in a warm flour tortilla. The in-house chips were also excellent. They were incredibly light with a generous amount of seasoning which is what I prefer. The service is very friendly, and I only waited about 5 minutes for my order of 6 tacos.

I, too, found this little gem of a business thanks to Scoutmob. After 50% off — three huge fish tacos, a fresh cut order of fries, and a freshly squeezed raspberry lemonade came to just over four dollars. You can’t beat that. My stomach was pleased and so was my wallet. This place is mostly takeout. Aside from four bar stools and a tacked-on counter down a claustrophobic hallway, there’s nowhere else to sit. But that’s okay, just be prepared to take your food on-the-go. The Fish Spot prefers the Domino’s Pizza method of business. No servers and tables equals very little overhead, so the fine people at The Fish Spot can provide a high quality product at a fantastic price — and efficiently. The fried tilapia tacos I had were spot-on: crisp shredded cabbage, hot salty fish, soft tortillas, and a vinegar-like sauce that held all flavors together perfectly. Even at full price, $ 5 is an absolute steal for this dish. The french fries were also freshly hot and smothered in Old Bay seasoning, and they were a great add-on to my meal.(Go carbs!) Nice work for only a buck. But let’s not forget the freshly squeezed raspberry lemonade. Good lord. It’s one of the best things I’ve ever put into my mouth. It’s like eating raspberries and lemons coated in sugar, and since there was no ice, it didn’t become watered down during the drive home. Do NOT leave The Fish Spot without trying this lemonade if you have a sweet tooth. I really can’t say enough good things about this place. Friendly service, with quick and delicious made-to-order food that won’t leave you broke. Take your smartphones, pull up the Scoutmob app, and jump in your car to The Fish Spot. You’ll be glad you did.

After reviewing my Scoutmob options I decided to go this new spot with some hesitation. The spot is in a strip mall that has lots of parking and the surrounding shops are kept up. After nearly passing the place(my mistake, there’s a sign on the street) my landmark is on Memorial right before the Suburban hotel. I was elated at the customer service. They were fast, very courteous, and knowledgeable. I ordered the fish tacos, with fried tilapia and they were heavenly. Needless to say I will not go anywhere else for my seafood fix. I forgot to mention, the most important part. I received fresh food, made to order and paid less than I would have for Mickey D’s. Everybody needs to go.
