Was there today for dinner for our first time. We come to Still water and head to its sister place– Eskimo Joe’s but went here today instead. I have to give it to the trainers– the staff couldn’t be more efficient if they wanted to be. Not just with our group but all over– people were being handled in a VERY efficient and kind manner. Food presentation was great. Very hot and very delicious. I compare cost vs. quality vs. value. I ordered the 3 steak taco’s. Fantastic taste — of what there was. At nearly 10.00 I was not expecting a side of beef but what I got was more of a slice of steak in each taco– a very THIN and very small slice. If that improved 4 – 5 stars it would be. AT this point I might return and give it a 2nd try but as I said cost vs. value= it didn’t add up.

The only thing that kept this place from getting no stars was the great service. Food was horrible! Somehow even the iced tea tastes like dirt. The rice was just gross, a minimal serving of beans was just mediocre and the cheese enchiladas just slightly better. Really, over rated in my opinion.

Waitress provided excellent service. White Queso particularly good. Wife had cheese enchiladas, very good. I had lunch Fajitas with steak, excellent. We had to take almost half our food home, the portions for rather generous.

Atmosphere is welcoming and service was prompt for the all you can eat tacos night. I ate them as fast as they came. Good portions of meat in each taco and white cheese was excellent. Will come again with some friends.

Really enjoyed the Mexican food that we got from here. The queso was very tasty with nice crunchy chips. I got the pork burrito which had good flavor and definitely a hearty portion. Would defintely go again if I was in the Mexican mood.

Yum! Our food was great! There was no waiting and our waiter was nice and attentive. No complaints. We had the Cadillac queso, fajita quesidilla, and taco soup. It was all very good. Way better than Eskimo joes for sure!

I like going to Mexico Joe’s for a quick Mexican dinner! It is pretty«Americanized» but I enjoy it. My family enjoys the Cadillac Queso– it is fabulous, and all you can eat Taco nights are the bomb diggity! If you order a Margarita you will not be disappointed, they have a great formula ! Oh, and their fresh salsa…

Service was fantastic & the atmosphere was great. Don’t be fooled by the«Kids Eat Free» menu option. If we would’ve realized the smothered nachos used a tablespoon of shredded cheese & were not actually smothered, we would’ve ordered something different for our picky eater.

Meh. I expect more from Mexican food places this close to the border. The fresh flour tortillas are the best item. Other than that, I would say you could find more interesting fare at a taco truck here in Stillwater. The chips & salsa are fast food-ish, and so is the rice. My Chimichuri steak & veggie bowl had undercooked«grilled» zucchini & squash on it. The waitress asked how we liked our food, and when I told her not so much she said«I’m sorry,» and sped off, not to be seen again for 20 minutes. Manager did come by, and he took care of it. Fun atmosphere, but I came tonight for the food… And it was not a very good dining experience. Sorry, Joe’s, I was disappointed.

This may just be the worst food in Stillwater. It is definitely the worst Mexican food. I ordered the chicken fajitas quesadilla. When they came out to me they had nothing but cheese and chicken in them. Fajitas quesadilla at any decent Mexican/Tex Mex the would have grilled bell peppers and onions in them. If I wanted just cheese and chicken I would have just ordered cheese and chicken quesadillas. When I said something to the waitress about it she said«you should have asked me what to order before hand I could have told you that they come like that». She said that is they way most of Stillwater likes them. A good waiter or waitress would have said something before hand. Now I will say this is not the first bad experience I had at MJS but it is the first time I felt the need to say something about it. If my wife didn’t like the salsa I would never go back again. The best restaurant Stan Clark had he shut down to sell hot dogs and bowling balls. From a guy who has lived in Stillwater his whole life you would be just fine never going to a Stan Clark restaurant. If you want cheese fries just go to Bad Brads, they are better.

Place is just fine. It is Mexican food in Stillwater which has to be taken in to consideration. I had Sonora Tacos. They were just okay. The two people I were with liked their food more. One had some beef enchiladas and the other a salad. The person who had the salad was very pleased and it did look pretty good. Decent salsa and chips. Nice bar. Decent environment. Decent service. Everything was just middle out the road.

We got there pretty late… it was after 10pm. They took our name and told us it would be 45 mins. We didn’t wait that long, I think it was closer to 20 mins. Our waitress was friendly. We placed our order and got our food in a decent time frame. I had the Chicken Tortilla Soup and salad. The food was great!

I have to confess that much of why I love MJs is nostalgia. Been a huge fan since they were located in a hole in the wall at the other end of town back in the day. But it is pretty darn good food regardless of the trip down memory lane. Salsa comes in mild and medium so you can mix them so you can make it as spicy or mild as you like. The mild is basically chunks of tomatoes and onions. The mild is pretty good with a little kick. Tonight we asked for the special hot stuff. Actually pretty fiery. I had the T en T with spicy ground beef taco. Not a big fan of the spicy beef. Got the regular ground beef taco — muy bien. Tamales were surprisingly good. The masa had a pretty thick Consistency — border line too thick but tasty. Rice and beans were… well…rice and beans. MJ’s is a unique flavor so if your in Stilly looking for something unique, this is your place. Buenos Noches.

Whenever we visit family in Stillwater we usually eat at one of the Joe’s restaurants. This last visit we stopped by Mexico Joe’s — everyone in the family loves Tex-Mex. My 2 year old nephew loves their tortillas and queso, so getting him to eat at the same time as the rest of us is an added incentive to eat here. We were seated quickly and our waitress was super friendly and attentive. The dining room was only a third of the way full when we got there(early on a Saturday) but by the time we got our food all of the tables were full. Still, even though the dining room was full our waitress came by several times to see how we were doing on everything. BTW the thinner looking salsa, if you’ve never had it, can be pretty spicy! That day it was SPICY!!! Thankfully I had some yummy queso to help me out. The chips are ok, nothing special. I prefer the white queso to the yellow(the yellow seems pretty thin) but both are good. This trip I ordered the Veggie Quesadilla. It was grilled nicely and stuffed with zucchini, squash, onions, and cheese. I was kind of disappointed by the veggie filling, like it wasn’t bad but there wasn’t any seasoning on the veggies. And to me zucchini and squash taste the same so I would have liked to see some different veggies thrown in there. It came with a side of white queso(yum) so that helped a little. I ordered the quesadilla a la carte, but if you order the full entrée it comes with rice and beans. If you order a soda or tea your drink will come in a plastic Mexico Joe’s cup that you can take with you. You’re basically paying for the cup anyway, you might as well take it. This time I ordered water so I didn’t get a new cup, but my cabinet is full of them so that’s ok. Overall it’s a fun themed place in Stillwater. Next time I’ll go back to my old standby: crunchy tacos!

My favorite of the Joe’s! Some people complain about its Tex-mex nature, but they don’t promise to be anything authentic. They are what they are. That doesn’t mean the food isn’t delicious. Tacos, burritos, chimichangas(a personal favorite), and more filled with the meat you want. Weekly food and drink specials. Speedy service with a smile. Usually less crowded than the original Joe’s so worth the extra drive to get there. And the take home cups! My favorite meal lately has been a big bowl of the chicken tortilla soup and a small side salad. The soup has intense flavors and is filling because of the added rice — something I hadn’t seen in similar soups at other restaurants. The chips are perfectly made and seasoned, and the medium salsa is so good I’d buy bottles of it if I could. Possibly my favorite salsa of all Mexican restaurants ever. One more thing — the beer club. For about $ 15 you can join up. They’ll personalize a glass mug that they keep there at the bar for you and that allows you to get discounts on domestic draft beer for the rest of your life. It saved me a lot of money during my grad school years. If you pay an extra $ 10 you can get a shirt embroidered with your name, too. Mexico Joe’s is a great place.

Of the three Joe’s establishments, Mexico Joes is my favorite. The staff is usually friendly and helpful, and the food is great. On my most recent visit, I went with a group of friends. We were able to get a table right away, but it was a little cramped for six people. The waitress was great about keeping our chips and salsa refilled. Speaking of salsa, they have two varieties on the table, a smooth medium heat salsa, and a chunky mild. I usually love spicy salsa, but the mild salsa here is so flavorful, I can’t get enough of it. I ordered the chicken burrito with white queso, served with black beans and rice. The burrito was pretty good, but I would try a different meat next time. The black beans and rice were cooked well and were a good addition to my meal. This wasn’t my favorite meal here, but it definitely hit the spot.

Just okay. Definitely«Oklahoma» Mexican. White queso had a good taste but was a little runny. The green enchiladas were very plain and the rice was quite bland. Nothing was ‘bad’ but it wasn’t groundbreaking. Seemed to have good drink specials but didn’t drink this time. Price was average.

It’s not cute on the outside it we weren’t looking at trying one of the other Joe’s establishments then I know we would have drove right passed this not even giving it a second look. Once you are inside though it starts to get better. Indoors the décor was very upbeat and lively. The menu is a Tex Mex menu but that doesn’t mean it’s bad food guys. Everyone at my table ordered a different quesadilla. All of us really enjoyed ours. I had the spinach and mushroom, and my table also ordered the chicken bacon and the chicken fajita. Both other parties at my table were not happy with the rice. I didn’t find it to bad but they had one bite and wouldn’t eat any more. It was kind of yellow for my taste it looked like the lipton rice packets you can get for $ 1 at the grocery store. I will go again next time I’m in town.

The only reason we ate at Mexico Joe’s was because there was an hour and a half wait at Eskimo Joe’s(which we have ate at several times and absolutely love). We had a game to attend and couldn’t wait that long, so at the suggestion of the waitstaff @ Eskimo Joe’s, we gave it a try. What a mistake. Plain and simple, the food here is just not good. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because our waitress was nice and attentive. The queso was runny and bland. I had the Cadilac Chimichanga, which was greasy and stuffed with overseasoned chicken breast meat. The rice tasted like rice a roni, and the black beans just tasted weird. Even the salsa/chips were just ok. My daughter had the sour cream enchiladas(that were stuffed with the same overseasoned chicken breast meat !!) and they were awful. I will not eat here again!

I guess I will come here to defend Mexico Joe’s but before I do, let me make something very clear. You are not coming here for authentic Mexican food. It is important that you understand that. You are coming here because it’s a Stillwater tradition and part of the Joe’s family of restaurants. Much like you go to McDonald’s for a burger, it’s not the best burger you’ll eat but you go anyway because it harkens you back to good times. Mexico Joe’s does that for me. I ate here in college, I ate here before the calf fry back in the day, and now my family enjoys our trips to Stillwater and Mexico Joe’s. We don’t come here expecting authentic Mexican food or fine dining. We come because the food is consistent, my wife LOVES the queso, and my kids can’t get enough of the sopapillas. What more can one want in a dining experience? I understand that it might not be everyone’s cup of tea and if you are looking for something authentic, perhaps you should try somewhere else. But for me and my family, there is something comforting about returning to Mexico Joe’s. It’s like coming home and that is always enjoyable.
